I hate eye pencils that scratch more then actually apply the product. But then I hate when they are too creamy and smooth that they just become a hot mess. By far the only eyeliner I have actually liked is Urban Decay 24/7. It’s creamy but I haven’t had problems with it either.
I love eyeliner. <3 Second to eyeshadow, this is what I play around with the most. I love having lots of colors to choose from. My favorite colors are black and purple. It took some practice before I was able to line my eyes without pulling, but I find that it was worth the effort. 🙂
I love them, but not when they go really smugey! I do LOVE feline though even though it can smudge like I don’t know what.
What pencil do you find stays best on your waterline Christine?
I love pencils, but I hate sharpening them.
I don’t wear much pencil eyeliner because it has a tendency to smugde throughout the day.
Most pencil eyeliners just don’t go on nearly as well as “gel” retractable eyeliners. Granted, there are exceptions, but for the most part, I see this as true.
What gel retractable liner do you use?
I’m too lazy to sharpen them so the splinters of wood often scratch my eyeballs and eyelids. It hurts but in my mind it’s better than having to actually find a pencil sharpener.
I am not much of a fan of pencil liners, many of them are difficult to apply and not at all creamy. UD and MUFE are ok, but they do not last at all on the water line, and many colors do not apply to the water line at all. Stila Kajals are way too creamy and smear all over within minutes. I much prefer cream/gel liners from a pot, they have the longest staying power.
My favorite pencil eyeline is Earthline Technakohl from MAC. I’ve used it everyday at school for the past two years, and when I say everyday… I mean everyday. The used up Earthlines remain on my vanity and the one kind has been around since the start of my makeup-using-time-thing. 🙂
girl you need to take those empties in for new e/s!
I HATE pencil liners that continuously claim that they are smudge-free but of course in an hour you literally have a black eye.
I have tried over 20-30 types of pencil liners and finally the only thing that is true to its word is ESTEE LAUDER’s DOUBLE WEAR Eye-Liner. Love it.
I love pencil eyeliners. They’re the only kind I can use easily. That being said, I wish there were more budgeproof formulas out there! Even the UD 24/7s and Prestige WP pencils smudge on me unless I set very well with powder eyeshadow. I haven’t tried the MUFE Aqua liners though, those are next on my list.
I have such watery eyes that liner has always been a problem! I have no problem with Mac pearl glide or Urban decy’s 24/7. They are pricey but they are the only thing that works for me!
hate pencil eyeliner
it looks weird, not precise and can come off kind of thick. Always having to sharpen it before each use is annoying too, I rather use gel eyeliner
I also hate liners that scratch more than actually applying the colours. Kohl liners never seem to stay on for me, as they just slide everywhere and make me look like I got a black eye. I love my UD 24/7, they just glide on so easily. But all pencil liners smudge on me after a few hours despite using a primer, even UD’s. 🙁
they go fast from your eye, that is wat i hate,
But they are easy to use
I love eyeliner. So far my favorite is the Urban Decay in zero (would love to get more of these! especially the El Dorado that you use a lot). I have had good luck with the Milani ones for budget brands. I like the Prestige for the consistency but I think the colors are pretty lacking. I really prefer liquid eyeliner pens though, and am really excited to try a gel or cream liner sometime.
I pretty much hate most pencil liners. I do like MAC pearglide liners and I love UD 24/7 liners but other than that… I haven’t found any that I like. I hate how pencils usually fail to glide over your eye–leads to too many mistakes for me.
I’m not a big pencil liner fan…most of ’em hurt so bad…love the MAC ones, they glide on easily
liquid liners are the best
I love pencil eyeliners, especially the kohls ones because they’re so soft. The only thing is that with some pencil eyeliners is that you have to tug on them.Colour eyeliner are great as well because they brighten your eyes!
I only like pencit for my tightline and waterline, other than that, I hate it for the top lashline. I leave my top lashline to liquid liner!
99% of all pencil eyeliners that I use (even Laura Mercier, MAC and NARS) run all over my face like a trainwreck by noon. The only ones I have fallen for completely is technakohl by MAC, b/c while the corners of my eyes may get a bit smudgy, it’s easy to keep under control. And it’s waterproof which is also really nice. However, it doesn’t go on as smoothly as the regular kohl pencils, so…. yeah.
I still haven’t found a HG eyeliner. UD’s 24/7 is too creamy for my oily lids and always creases on my Asian folds.. So far Almay has a retractable eye liner that stays on pretty good for me
If I has to choose a PENCIL liner.. Maybe prestige
I’m 23, and I really just got into makeup (rwell, more seriously into makeup) last year. I went from using Bonne Bell (yes, I know!) to Maybelline (came with the mascara I bought) to trying the Super Stash from Urban Decay (which I love) and MUFE (okay, but UD is definitely beter!). Don’t think I’ll ever go back to the drugstore stuff. UD is super soft and smooth, and the colors are beautiful! I recently bought a Tokidoki eyeliner from Sephora, but still haven’t summoned the courage to use it.
I like pencil liners depending on the brand. UD 24/7 and L’Oreal HIP are the ones I wear the most. I own a LOT of pencils but the ones that require tugging either don’t get worn or thrown away.
I hate most eye pencils because they aren’t very pigmented, they scratch and hurt, and they’re hard to apply. However, there are some exceptions like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil and Makeup Forever’s Aqua Eyes.
I have such a love/ hate relationship with pencil liners.
So bright and beautiful. They come in almost as many colors as eyeshadows.
But they also pull on the lid and you have to trace over them to get a good line. It’s also hard to get a sharp line. But that’s another thing they’re good for. Better for softer looks and I find they’re good for the upper waterline.
I can’t stand the retractable pencil liners!
I like the UD 24/7 ones but I have a ton of the NYX Slim liners and they’re great too. I used the black one today.
I prefer gel/cream liners.
I have small asian eyes and pencil eyeliner just doesn’t work well for me. Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING stays on my waterline (which is probably a good thing because it only makes my eyes look smaller). I much prefer gel or liquid eyeliner for a smooth, defined line on my upper lashline
I HATE hard eyeliner! I also don’t like it I have to layer it on to get it to show up (which I shouldn’t, I’m so pale!) I don’t like it when it smudges or transfers. I really only like the waterproof ones I guess.
I love the softer type pencil liners, such as Annabelle smoothliners, GOSH velvet touch, UD 24/7, MAC Pearlglides… I don’t like the hard khol types. I think pencils are the quickest when I’m in a rush in the morning, but I reach for Fluidlines when I have a few extra minutes. I seriously HATE sharpening them though.
The only pencil liner I’ve ever used that didn’t smudge all over the place after 5 minutes is MAC powerpoint. I like the formula a lot, but I HATE the fact that sharpening it wastes so much product, so I hardly ever use it. If it was a twist-up liner it’d be absolutely perfect! I generally just stick to fluidline, and I throw the pencil in my bag to use for touch-ups on the go since it’s way more convenient to apply.
I love pencil eyeliners for the bottom lashline and waterline but they tend to fade on my upper lashline so I usually go over it with gel liner.
since i live in a humid country, pencil liners are not my friend. they migrate to the corners of my eyes in about an hour!
i don’t normally wear eyeliner but when i do, I never go for pencil.
i find it harder to work with than an angled brush with gel liner
i usually like to make a very fine line and i can never seem to get it right with any pencil eyeliner
I have to say I think pencil eyeliner is more of a go-to for me than liquid eyeliner, although I like the liquid liner look better. It’s just so much easier to apply and you don’t have to wait for it to dry!
The first pencil liner I tried was by NARS and I hated it – it didn’t stay in place at all and would migrate to little ridges around my eyes within hours of application. I tried the Styli-Style one (the twist-up kind) and it was not velvety enough in texture; you had to really press it onto your skin. I didn’t like how it pulled the skin around my eyes.
Then I tried the Maybelline twist-up liner, and I did really like it. It was smoother than the Styli-Style and lasted longer than the NARS. Then I decided to try a more pricey eyeliner, Make Up For Ever aqua eyes in a pretty bronze/ metallic color. I liked this pencil liner but it was again not smooth enough for my liking, and once you applied it you couldn’t smudge it out easily.
Finally I tried Urban Decay’s 24/7 liner in “Zero” (black) and fell in love. It’s smooth enough to not pull at the skin but really stays in place all day. Definitely the best one I’ve tried so far (and I’ve tried a LOT).
I love Cliniqe eye pencils and recommend them to you. They are soft, they don’t hurt my eye, they are longlasting they never smudge or disappear. And they are soft so I can smudge and blend with my fingers I love them. I have and always buy black diamond(silvery black-great) chocolate lustre, egyptian and a dark navy-purple one.
I love MAC technakohl liners. You don’t have to sharpen then and they are included in BACK-2-MAC! I always use graphblack and brownborder. My trick is to use a good base concentrated on the crease of your eye and lash line so it stays all day. I do have oily lids and they do smudge after awhile…but I love that look at the end of the day.
you have to find the right one. some are too creamy and smear and some are too dry and they catch on the skin.
When you find the right one, pencil eyeliner is fabulous! I love Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners and MAC’s pearl glide eyeliners for myself. The consistency is great, they last a long time, and they don’t tug at the lid – despite any shimmer/glitter.
me and eye pencils fell out years ago lol
not a big fan of pencil liners, they drag but my new super find is the L’Oreal liquid pencil in grey (comes in 3-4 other shades). smoother than 24/7 (no pull on my sensitive eyes) and richer and creamier color and it withstood the budge test better, major find.
I hate super scratchy, dry ones that come out chalkly. I hate when they don’t smudge. I hate when they have hard points and it pokes my eye. I also dislike ones that are hard to get off. Once I find a good one that’s not too dry or creamy, them I’m sold. I’m loving Hard Candy’s Take Me Out eyeliner right now – it’s cheap and smooth.
I hate brown eyeliner pencils. I have not tried to see if there is a brown kajal liner yet. I’ll give that a try, but brown eyeliners do not show up on me at all…or not as much as I want them too.
I love pencil eyeliners mainly for the water and lower lash line but I really don’t like them for lining the top lash line (eyelid). Sharpening can be a pain and then there are some eyeliners that can be really scratchy and lack pigmentation. Overall I like them.
