What is the craziest thing you have done to get your hands on a limited edition product?

I stayed up most of the night to snag MAC x Archie’s Girls collection, which ended up keeping my husband awake, too! I also remember standing in line before class at the mall for MAC x Barbie dolls.

I searched to and from the previous posts everywhere, google blog sales for the MAC Heatherette Original Release.. Not the Heatherette Collection, but the Heatherette lipstick that was released alone and advertised by Amanda Lepore.. Oh, and a MAC Lipstick in Crimzone.. Only to unlove it because it was a Lustre…

I don’t really go crazy for LE things. Partially bc they’re almost always too much money for me, the other part is that I’m almost always disappointed by reviews of limited edition things. The only thing I’ve done recently for LE stuff is order five eyeliners from Wet n Wild’s site from their Spring 2016 LE collection because I didn’t feel like driving out to five different stores to find all three.

I trekked to 5 different stores in a major city before I found Dior Nude Glowing Gardens Illuminating Powder in Nude from Spring 2016. I think the Nude color sold out online and in-stores within 10 days of launch. Some of the stores didn’t even have their Dior spring displays up yet, and it was already gone. All the SA’s said they had to turn away so many customers because of no stock. Fortunately, I found it at the last store. They had JUST received a shipment of 2, and I snagged one. They need to make that one permanent! It sounded like for every 1 they sold, there were at least 10 people who wanted it but couldn’t get their hands on it.

Sat the alarm at 8 in the morning (on my free day!) to snag the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Collection. So worth it though 🙂 (for me, who is a zombie before 11 o’clock it was way out of character lol!)

Other than just about losing my mind over the UD Spectrum Palette? Yep, THAT palette!!!! Tried nabbing it, unsuccessfully I might add, on it’s few mysterious and extremely short-lived appearances. Waited for it’s release all night of October 19th-20th, when it was supposed to be made available again. But to no avail. Made calls to UD Corp. Headquarters, emailed them as well trying to get answers. Finally, gave up on it. Pretty much, so I deluded myself into believing….until KAPOW! It shows up in late January, not February as rumored. And I was in a bind at that time, and basically had a not-totally-private meltdown. Yikes!!! So, in the end I didn’t get it by anything I did or tried to do, but by an act of unforgettable kindness by someone who had never even met me!!! I not only got my palette, but gained a friend! And that’s truly priceless. ?

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh yes, I remember your MONTHS long ordeal of trying to snag UD Spectrum! It seemed like every time you had a chance to get it, the chance was snatched from you. The makeup gods are so cruel, but thanks to the kindness of a reader (now a friend), you finally got it. They really need to make that one permanent. It’s such an awesome, one-of-a-kind palette, one of the best EVER created– every one who wants it, deserves a fair chance of getting it.

I stayed up all night and jumped through all the hoops, followed all the drama and “tips” from other makeup junkies on social media to get my UD Vice LTD pallette a couple years ago when the Urban Decay website first released it. I really really wanted it, and I do love that pallette!

Julia Avatar

I’ve never done anything TOO crazy, but I did check my phone obsessively all day until the Champagne Glow palette was made available since I was at work, and I did buy it within minutes of the release (obviously wasn’t even necessary). I also got up in the middle of the night to buy the Naked 3 palette when it launched at Sephora. That one wasn’t LE, but they always sell out the first run, and I think it was during on of their good holiday sales that I really wanted to use.

Fran Avatar

That’s the one! Thank you, Rachel 🙂 I’m going to stick a Post-It on my monitor. For some reason numbers (March 31) stick in my head better than names (Halsey) do!

I caved and spent a stupid amount of money on theEvilbay to get my hands on a TF mini lippie in Stavros which I had been coveting for almost a year only to turn around and find it to be re-released about a month later. I think in fact I actually predicted that outcome here on Temptalia and a week later… (stream choice words here ^$%%*& %^&@(=**).

Punched out from work, sped an hour to a MAC store, got a couple of Rocky Horror, drove back, and punched back in. You couldn’t get near the website. Only one makeup fiend knew and we swatched after work. Never did get Frankenfurter. Complete secret, and they never knew. Had a cover story I never needed. Think I was 65 then. HF stupid. I am way too old and have far too much stash for this insanity. Normally, I just write it off, but….

Nicole Avatar

losing sleep is the “craziest” for me too. Some Mac collection, of course and I didn’t even get everything I wanted because the stuff literally sold out of my basket! It was that Linda blush! I still am hoping they repromote that some day!

chris Avatar

I stood in line on my day off to get a collection from MAC (even though I am a PPID member). I can’t remember the name but it featured a lip pencil, lipstick, gloss and polish in the same same color.

Allison Avatar

thanks for picking my question!! I woke up at 2:30 am the morning of the sephora vib rouge sale to pickup limited edition items that i knew would sell out!! Sometimes i think about what i would do to get my hands on chanel notorious, but i havent done it yet lol

I camped out in a mall to get the MAC Barbie and Hello Kitty Collections. I would wait in my car at 2am, by 3am I was at the door of the mall, they let the morning joggers into the mall to walk around and get exercise. Then I got my blanket and pillow and rested at the gate of the MAC store. (Yes I still have my MAC Barbie doll and the eye shadows, Yes I still have the Hello Kitty Black and Pink brush holder, 3 of the $90 rhinestone compacts, 2 eye shadow palettes and a pocket mirror.

I’ve stayed up late and stalked websites, but that’s as “crazy” as I’ve gotten. If an LE item is too much of a hassle, then I can’t be bothered. Well, one time I called a department store in another state for one of the MAC Red, Red, Red eyeshadows, and had them ship it to me. It really wasn’t that much of a bother, though.

Jennifer Avatar

I showed up to MAC before the store opened for the Marilyn Monroe collection thinking they would open early for some reason but I had to work that day so I was bummed that they wouldn’t open until 10….I’m not even much of a Marilyn Monroe fan but for some reason I had to own a lipstick, I did end up getting one from Macy’s when they re-released the collection on their website a couple of months later.

I’m very philosophical when it comes to obtaining something LE. If it’s meant to be, I’ll be able to get it. If it’s not, no problem! There’s always something else on the horizon 🙂 So, beyond normal things like keeping track of release dates, I don’t do anything special. I do have a wonderful SA at Nordstrom (Big shout out to Gisu!) who will call me as soon as something I’m interested in arrives. She’ll also put product aside for me because she knows I’ll be buying. I’ve never let her down in that regard and I’m one of her best customers so she’ll do that for me.

I have gotten up early to nab a LE Caroline Hirons x Cult Beauty box before it sold out. I have just sat late at night researching for dupes for the MAC Flamingo Park palette because it isn’t sold in the UK and it’s surprisingly difficult to dupe. In the end I just thought ‘sod it’ and bought the Dior Glowing Gardens Rose Garden palette to go with my MAC LE shadows that I bought a week or so ago. I got £6 off using my points on Escentual.com so I’m pleased. I have been researching/looking for affordable dupes since I realised the palette want sold here, so that shows how crazy I am!

I stood in line waiting for the MAC store to open for my Cinderella palette, but haven’t done anything too crazy. I am, however, contemplating some extreme measures to get my hands on MAC Cubic blush, which I found out too late was discontinued. Anyone have any ideas?

Tonya Avatar

The craziest thing I have done for a Le was just recent over Mugs manny palette, I stayed up for 3days with no luck getting thru, I was so sleep deprived but very determined to get that palette I found a random number on google for Mugs Cs and the wonderful Cs worker sent me a link and I had my palette in 2days. sorry mine was not about mac which I do love but that is about as crazy as I get haha. Plus i had 5 laptops and a tablet trying to get it.

LaMaitresse Avatar

I was terrible I have a very good relationship with my SA”s so it usually doesn’t come to this but in the past when I used to buy LE’s from every high end brand and not just one or two, chaos would ensue. This is the first time I’ve admitted it but I become fixated to the point where I would email relatives in the US, England and Japan to find the product, or I would pay EBay prices. It was so pathetic that I had my cousin looking for Asia exclusive LE’s (or rather his assistant), and every so often a parcel would arrive from Mitsokoshi. Thank god I’ve grown up a bit, and limit myself to one or two LE’s a season.

I had a friend in Canada get last year’s Sephora Canada exclusive Bite Beauty maple lipsticks and I’m glad I did. They are all gorgeous, wear well and smell like maple.

Made multiple trips to makeup counters at 3 different department stores, 2 hours away from where I live to track down Guerlain’s Holiday 2015 collection. Ended up getting a counter manager’s cell number, haha.
To get my hands on the elusive Shiseido PK107 Medusa Highlighter (sold only in Asia and ALWAYS SOLD OUT), I was on the waiting list for 2 whole months! (But I got it!) Now repurchasing is going to be a problem…

Elena Avatar

Hello there! I’ve seen Medusa in Canada. I bought it way after it made the rounds on the blogs. London Drugs probably still carries some of them as their stock has a tendency to stay a while. If you have friends in Canada, casually drop them a line.

I drove an hour in rush hour traffic to nab the UD Book of Shadows (the very first one). Sephora didnt have it on hand the first time I went in for it but promised to put one on hold during the next shipment. A few days later, got a phone call from Sephora that the LAST palette they had was waiting for me but someone else inquired if she could take it if i didnt want to come in for it. Heck no!

Marissa Avatar

not a limited edition but the craziest thing i’ve ever done is stalk daily for like 4 months? the morphe website to get the 35O palette which is always sold out. i needed it. it’s good for the price imo. also i loved the packaging for mac wash and dry and my counter was sold out of the lipstick shade i wanted so i told the mac lady to call to another mac store who is 45 min away with traffic to ask if they had the collection still available, luckily they had… so i drove to another mall before class and got it! fun thing is that i got a permanent shade (morange), but the packaging!! … i’m still sad i didn’t got the alluring aquatic collection 🙁 hahaha

I was almost last to work, refreshing my computer for the MUG x Manny MUA palette and the KVD Mi Vida Loca palette* ( *totally worth it in my opinion), that may not seem super crazy to some folk, but my work takes being later very seriously! 1x late is a warning, 2x is a write up and 3x is automatic termination. I was late the month before Mi Vida Loca launched because of car issues so I was definitely taking a risk!

Susan Dowman Nevling Avatar

I go online ahead of time and complete my order info. I bring the product picture up if possible. When it goes on sale, I finish what is left to complete the order.

Cat Avatar

I’ve never done anything crazy for a LE item. It’s either available when I want to purchase it, or it’s not. Were there LE items I would have purchased if they’d been more readily available? Definitely. However, I’m not going to put myself through any added stress trying to buy makeup. Cosmetics are my escape, something enjoyable and fun, and I want to keep it that way.
