I find they offer really opaque coverage with thicker consistencies that do well for smoothing out the area, but they sometimes seem to crease more readily on me and take some practice (and the right applicator/product) to set as they are already thick.

Sticks provide superior coverage, but at this stage for me, they always end up drying out my lower eye area during the course of the day and then taking on a cakey look. Liquid concealer works better, but can also dry out as the day progresses. I tend to prefer cream layering a corrector colour under a skin toned concealer set with a bit of the light yellow hourglass powder (Diffused Light). 5 years ago I wouldn’t have known concealer could be such a b*tch. This is one area of my makeup routine which has become frustrating and costly. Anyone want the 10 concealers I’ve purchased over the last couple of years which are totally useless for me?
I agree with all you said. I don’t have 10 concealers, but most of what I do have are rather useless. (For me.)
Got a box,probably 20. Throw ’em out. Got a fair routine now, an amped one and a no makeup day one. Under is FAB triple duty. Over is Paula TM. Not great. But I don’t look dead. Often added in, CoverFX concealer. Amp it up: Eve Pearl salmon. Keep wanting to try CdP stick, but think it will be too yellow. I find that salmon/peach cancels blue/ purple. Concealers have always been the bane and savior of my existence. I never venture out the door without it, unless I want folks to inquire how long since my death certificate.
I have CdP stick and it is very yellow so not sure you will like and my eye area too delicate to take it.. tried with MAC 217 brush which is my go to for stiffer products (perfect for Paint Pots), but it goes cakey. Could be that I’ve had it for too long and it has hardened over time. Eeep It’s pricey!
Tried Eve Pearl salmon: too emollient and it creases like a SOB on me. Colour is fantastic for correcting though. I’m totally with you on that point 🙂
No makeup days are not truly no makeup days because I cannot step out of the house without at least touching up my brows and wearing concealer..unless of course peeps want to form that perfect surprised O with their mouths when they look at me. snort laugh.
Just looked up the FAB triple duty and that will prolly slip into my Sephora cart. That makes it 21 teehee..
p.s. had a moment of brilliance today (or stupidity). I am trying out one of my meh undereye concealers as an eyeshadow base (NARS radiant in custard- works great around my nose, but not great under my eyes). We’ll see how the experiment goes or whether my eye look decides to heads south. I’m safe at home at least if it does 😀
Rave: Sometimes I have better luck with stick concealers not melting off my oily skin. They’re easy to carry in your purse and apply. Back when my lips used to turn everything hot pink or neon orange (I don’t know if lipstick formulas changed, or my lip chemistry did), I used to always carry a cheap stick concealer with me to use under my lipsticks.
Rant: They crease under my eyes. It’s even harder to match to my skin than foundation.
They are great for spot-concealing, also for areas that need heavier coverage. Like where I have some redness or discoloration. I use one for everywhere except under my eye area. Because it just creases under there far too easily (and quickly, too!). But, they MUST be set with a powder or they go into hot-mess territory in a flash!!!
Great for full coverage and traveling!
Love: Great for covering blemishes, don’t have to worry about spilling in makeup bag
Hate: Having to ensure having the right sharpener for them, sometimes hard so not best for using on dark circles
I have one from Hourglass that dried out and went RANCID really quickly – far more quickly than any mere mortal, however dreadful her under-eye circles are – could ever use it. I also found it quite dry and would work a bit of eye cream into it on the back of my hand before applying it. Because of the spoilage issue, I am really reluctant to repurchase.
I haven’t had any problems with the stick foundation or concealers I’ve tried. Other than like either skipping over pores or going right into them but that was back in the 80’s.
The only stick I’ve used is the Cle De Peau and I’m quite happy with it. I use either Becca or Armani’s corrector under and set with HG Diffused ( most days) or a light press of some sort of finishing powder and I may have minimal creasing In the Simplehuman super closeup mirror. But,IRL, I can live with it. I just learned that my circles are never going to be covered as long as I’m living the in the 4 hour sleep world. It is what it is. I do my best and move on.
Dior has a stick concealer with a moisture core that I’m quite pleased with and I have very dry skin. Doesn’t crease, stays in place, covers better than many concealers I’ve tried. Check it out.
I generally dislike stick concealers. I have pretty decent skin so don’t need to cover up too much and I also have dry skin so stick concealers tend to crease. I think the thickest concealers I have are the Nars one and the Tarte CC under eye one (pan form), and in my concealer stash there are no stick concealers. I had a green crayon-style concealer from Japonesque for color correcting before it became a trend as that was the only kind I could find but have since switched to the UD ones as I much prefer the doe foot applicator and the more liquid consistency.
Great for carrying around and touch ups! Because they tend to be on the thicker side they also look cakey very easily though.
Makes me think of an old Max Factor product from the 1970’s “Erace”. It was thick and covered very well but the shades were awful and it creased on me even back then. Most recent (10+ yr ago) I used stick concealer was an excellent one by the Body Shop. It was slim and yellow toned but they discontinued it. Lately I have been trying very pigmented liquid or cream concealers but it is tough as I have hereditary dark circles plus “allergic shiners” and I am pale. And though my skin is very good for my age (56) creasing is an issue even if I powder.
the only one I’ve tried is Benefit’s Fakeup and I liked it, but it wasn’t really anything special.
I love anything stick form including concealers! I most have good things to say. They are fuller coverage with convenient packaging. I guess one flaw about them is that some can be a bit hard and hard to spread/blend. I mostly see that with cheap stick concealers that look like lipsticks.
Well, unfortunately, I haven’t tried any in about 20 years. I used to have a few drugstore versions, but the texture and wear was off-putting (somehow cakey and greasy at the same time — they emphasized imperfections and slid away from where I needed them). I’m sure that there have been vast improvements, and that there are some perfectly acceptable choices nowadays, but I’ve no reason to go looking.
