A Look of Great Experimentation: My Face as a Test Site!
Bright Makeup: Just Playin’ Around
I wanted to test out some new products I purchased, so I figured perhaps I’d try to create a coherent look rather than have ten different new products in various places on my face with no rhyme or reason! I mostly wanted to test out Tarina Tarantino’s eyeshadows in practice, rather than just swatched, and I bought Sweetzer (green) and Peacock Pearl (blue).
Naturally, they called to be used in a tropical-ish kind of look. (I find these easier to do, too, since it’s my default bright look–SO it would be an easy test for the eyeshadows.) I’ll review the eyeshadows separately and in full from this look, but I did have trouble blending the TT eyeshadows into the whole look, unfortunately!
I wouldn’t have worn this look out, because the application wasn’t up to par — I had some blending issues, which I thought might occur, but I thought I’d show you what happens kind of behind-the-scenes, as it were, when it comes to testing out new products. 🙂 I do plan to review everything that was new and tested in this look, so be on the look out!
Products I was testing…
- Tarina Tarantino Eyeshadows
- Tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner
- Tokidoki Glitter Eyeliner
- Guerlain Blonde Halee Bronzer
- Korres Lipstick
- Dior Ultra Gloss
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Golden Lemon Pigment (yellowed gold), MAC Lucky Green Eyeshadow (golden green), Tarina Tarantino Sweetzer Eyeshadow (grassy green), Tarina Tarantino Peacock Pearl Eyeshadow (shimmery blue), MAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow (green-gold), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Tokidoki Mostro Perfetto Eyeliner (yellow-green), Tokidoki Rondine Brillante Glitter Eyeliner (blue), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Urban Decay Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer (Bodyguard), Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder
- Cheeks: Guerlain Blonde Halee Terracotta Bronzer (bronze)
- Lips: Korres #45 Coral Lipstick (coral), Dior Apricot Cloche Ultra Gloss Pearl (apricot coral)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: N/A
For eyes, start by applying Golden Lemon pigment as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 239 and water-based mixing medium. Using the 239, apply Lucky Green eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Sweetzer eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Peacock Pearl eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly tap and brush Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Rondine eyeliner on the lower lash line and Mostro eyeliner on the upper lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Blonde Halee bronzer to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply #45 lipstick first, and then layer Apricot Cloche lipgloss for a complementing lip.
I am really not liking this tinted moisturizer, it kind of makes your skin look blotchy, which is obviously not how its supposed to turn out. I like your other tinted moisturizers and foundations better =)
Aw!
It’s a fun look and experimenting is terrific!
Thanks, Ada!
friggin gorgeous!
Thank you, Tiffany!
I love the lip combo! Christine this is a little off topic but I wanted your input. I use my Mac 109 brush for foundation only. Every one in a while after I’m done deep cleaning with baby shampoo I’ll notice the next morning that it’s has bled a little while drying on a paper towel. I didn’t think anything of it but last night I did the same routine cleaning and it bled again but much more than it ever has. I took a look at the brush before using it and I noticed that the bristles appear to be turning a bluish color (the same color that it bleeds). Do you have any suggestions on what I should do? I also notice that it’s not as soft as it was. I have only had this brush for about a year. I have other Mac brushes and I have never had a problem with any of them until now.
Hey Heather,
I’d return it, if you can. Even if you’re outside the return period, I’d probably still try to.
Thanks so much Christine. I called Mac and they are shipping me a new one. I knew you would know what to do. You’re the best 🙂
No problem!
It shouldn’t do that, and my feeling is always – if it’s a bother, it shouldn’t be, and they’re not cheap! So I am happy they’re taking such good care of you 🙂
Very pretty Christine. I plan on checking some of this stuff out today so that I can use my Sephora discount coupon :). Can I expect a separate review on those lovely lip products?
Most likely 🙂
Love it! you need to review Tarina tarantino e.s!! im wondering if i should get the purpley-brown one :S
Done!
Love it!!! Always enjoy reading your reviewes, but definitely looking forward to the one for the Terracotta Bronzer!!!
Thanks, Andrea!
Ooh, now this is my kind of test site! 😛 I can’t wait for the reviews — the FOTD is so fun.
LOL! 😉
Although, I cannot pull of eyes this bright (esp. here at the office) but every time I see one of these EOTD posts it makes me happy. I try to vary it to my own comfort level. Thanks for always pushing the envelope and encouraging me to embrace more color, albeit subtle injections, into my eye looks!!
Thanks, Alexis 🙂
Hi Christine,
The color on your cheeks doesn’t look so bronzy, it looks blushier. Was it in the technique that you used?
Thank you1
I used it lightly and on the cheeks as a blusher 🙂
Hi Christine,
I am in love with the lip combo as usual, what do you think about the Dior Apricot Cloche Ultra Gloss Pearl?
Is it worth trying?
It’s a very jellyish lipgloss — non-sticky, a little on the thicker side (but not goopy!), a little color but not a lot, and moisturizing.
Don’t ya just love that Apricot Cloche? I’ve been wearing it every day for a week!
Are you wearing it alone or layering? 🙂
The greens, yellow, and blue really highlight your brown eyes! Lovely!
Thanks, Anne!
Love the lip combo!
Thanks, Jenni!
uh oh! you lined your top lash line, are your eyes all swollen now?
I removed this look right after, but yeah, my lids are a little patchy today 🙁
=(

i think i speak for all of us when i say
THANK YOU, YOU’RE AMAZING! =)
Thank you, Sara!
Love greens and golds on any eye.
Thank you!
Divine! I love how lucky green looks on your skin!
Than you so much, Megan!
