Sneak Peek: Smashbox Photo Op Mega Palette Photos & Swatches
Smashbox Photo Op Mega Palette
Smashbox Photo Op Mega Palette ($69.00 for 1.06 oz.) includes eight eyeshadow trios (so 24 eyeshadows), plus three blushes. There are a variety of finishes from mattes to shimmers, cooler and warmer shades.
Several of these shades can be found either as permanent trios in the Smashbox range or as part of other trios, so if time runs out (as in it sells out), I may still review to capture some of those permanent shades. The following trios are included: Multi-Flash (Naked, Crisp, Doe), Filter (Vanilla, Sable, Sumatra), Dark Room (Opal, Granite, Blackout), Cover Shoot (Flirt, Dusk, Haze), Skybox (Sky, Steel, Nocturnal). These are the shades that are in this palette but can be found in other trios (but not together): Golden Orchid, Obsidian, Amethyst, Parfait, Ambient. I will try my best to review this in a timely manner, but the palette stack (about 12) is daunting at the moment and this being mega-sized may mean it doesn’t get tested quickly enough.
At the very least, here are some swatches!

Is this a Nordstrom only product or do you know if it will be available at Sephora? Thanks
I don’t know for sure – I know it is part of Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, and many items from that are exclusive to Nordstrom but some do go to other retailers eventually. I don’t get information from Smashbox directly, so I can only go off of what’s on Nordstrom’s site unfortunately!
I love the look of the Fortune/Safari/Moss trio but there is just way too much in this palette and my head is already spinning from my own recent “palette stack” and other purchases. Which reminds me, Christine – I’ve been meaning to ask for ages if you ever plan to review the Stila “SPIRIT” Eyes Are the Window palette. I know you reviewed Body – which looks to have been horrid – and also Soul (which I just recently go and actually really like) and I also got Spirit about a month or so back and I find it to be pretty darned good (perhaps because so many of the shadows are from the Permanent line). I know you wrote that you got all 4 of them (purchased on your own, not press samples) and wonder if you do ever plan to review the remaining 2. Like I said, I think Spirit is a good all around neutral palette.
They’re in the backlog, but nothing is forthcoming at the moment. I’m not even sure if one of them is swatched (I think I photographed all four in one go, but my arm was dead before I finished swatching all, not 100% sure)! I wouldn’t say never, but definitely not… soon.
I’m seriously tempted by this one. I feel like Smashbox is kinda boring overall and they don’t get nearly the attention as say, Urban Decay would, but they tend to put out solid palettes. This looks nice.
Smashbox doesn’t always draw me in, for some strange reason even though most of what I’ve tried from the brand have been pretty decent. I quite like the look of the Golden Orchid trio.
OMG, I am loving some of the shadows here -Safari, Amethyst, Obisidian, Golden Orchid, Steel, Nocturnal, but I don’t need the entire palette for $ 70 . I’m going to check to see if they sell as singles or as trios and what the price is…or maybe look at your dupes
Some of the shadows look crappy but I like the blushes!
This looks really nice overall and some of the shadows look fantastic! Amethyst looks like what MAC Trax should be…
I was ogling Amethyst and thinking the same LOL
I’m not generally a Smashbox fan, but this looks really nice if it performs well. It would have to score pretty high for me to pay that much for it though. I had one of the eyeshadow trios a couple of years ago and I wound up giving it away. I just didn’t like the consistency and how it applied.
Buggers, woo pain meds!..at first glance, I though the price was $89..$69 is much better. Still, I would need a good score just because I’ve not had good experiences with their eye shadow.
I have a few palettes from Smashbox, and as pretty as they are, and the quality is there, I just don’t reach for them… I also bought a set of glosses *ages* ago, but they’ve never even been opened, LOL!
Hmm..I wonder what it is? The packaging maybe? I don’t find it appealing. Wow..never opened! I usually at least pop em out so they clutter up my space, lol!
These are some seriously beautiful and PIGMENTED eyeshadows! I probably won’t buy the mega palette because space is seriously running low here, but I am absolutely getting that trio with AMETHYST in it! *swoons*
And also loving those last 2 blushes, especially Geranium!
Thank you for these swatches, I definitely appreciate getting to see them.
The swatches look great (mostly). The blushes are pretty, and the Amethyst color is gorgeous. I don’t know…I can never get very excited about Smashbox, even though what I have tried is good.
Wow, Amethyst is exactly what I wanted MAC Trax to be!
Another smashbox palette so soon!! I just bought my first Smashbox pallette and it is the Shapematters pallette. I’ll skip this pallette because “On the Rocks” pallette will be coming right around the corner…lol
Amethyst is gorgeous.
Even photos/swatches help me tremendously so thank you.
I never really look at smashbox but o actually really like this! I think it’s a good deal too. The trios are like premade eye-shadow looks, would be easy to just pick one, apply it and be done lol.
Carnation is just what I would want from a blush called carnation!
Some really pretty colour combinations, but alas and alack, no real greens (mint green, forest green, olive) – just lots and lots of browns…. one set of blues, one set of greys and a set of purples. The quality of the eye shadows seemed to vary greatly as well. I would be interested to see how this rates. I wonder how you would get your brushes into this….
Oh – the blushes looked lovely – I thought they were beautiful and they looked good on you too Christine. Not over the top, just right.
If you have the red Smashbox Photo-Op Mega Palette, it has almost all the eye shadow colors contained here (except that beautiful Safari!) The blushes are definitely different.
Easy pass for me, since I really can’t justify it for that ONE eye shadow, lol!
Actually contemplating going on a ‘no buy’ except essentials. I could make up the Statue of Liberty’s face until the end of time and still may not run out, lol!
So far this is looking really good! Can’t wait to have it available in Switzerland!
Lovely but only one of the blushes would appear on my NC42 skin. Plus, we don’t have smashbox in Portugal…
If this kit sells out there’s a kit similar that’s on sale for a few more dollars at Ulta
I’m not a Smashbox fan, I have only few products from the brand, some I like, some I dislike, but I don’t love any of the products I have. I also find their counters here to be quite uninspiering.
I must admit that this looks tempting, though. I don’t think I’ll get my hands on it, Norstrom does ship, but there’s the custums making things bougth outside of EU a lot more expensive.
It will be interesting to read reviews, if it gets straight A’s I might change my mind.
I was totally uninterested in this until I saw some of the swatches! Some are gorgeous! I have their full exposure palette and it’s not so great. But maybe this will be better! Might go for it….
This, I want. Some absolutely gorgeous shades, and I love all the blushes – very rare in a palette!
I ordered this and the Lorac skinny palette and just recently recieved them both! The Lorac palette came with the black shadow shattered and made a HUGE mess in my kitchen. grrrr. I swatched the remaining shades and really didnt like the feel of them, so I wont be exchanging it. But this palette seems a lot more promising although I haven’t touched it yet! Some of the swatches appear powdery, but some are nice and to be totally honest, it was pretty much just the shade “Amethyst” that cliched the deal for me. I am still (im)patiently awaiting your review, hoping every day for it! haha! 😉 I do hope you still plan on putting it up at some point. If the grade is bad I’ll just return unused probably!
