Rant & Rave: bareMinerals
Tell us what you love and hate about...
bareMinerals
I love their Ready formula for blush/eyeshadows, and even though they’re technically different brands, I like a lot of their Buxom lip products. I really didn’t like their most recent pencil eyeliner formula – that was a rough one.

I really hate it when the READY palettes are a mix of new shades and repromotes. I have a huge collection, and I don’t want any more dupes!
Rant: Too much duplication of colors and palettes. I’m tired of brands giving new names to old colors, or putting together palettes that are exactly the same except for one or two new shadows.
Rave: Nice formula for their eye shadows and pretty colors.
I had the misfortune of using their foundation and blush and it broke me out horribly. I will never try any product from that brand….ever.
I LOVE the Ready eyeshadow, bronzer and blush formula! I think Bare Minerals can produce subtle and beautiful satin finishes really well, perhaps the best on the market. I don’t really understand the color combinations in the Ready quads / palettes, which has stopped me from buying more. I wish I could select the shades in a quad or 8 pan palette, because I would buy that in a heartbeat. I also like some of their loose shadows and the lash domination mascara.
I’ve only tried a couple of their eyeshadow duos, but I love them. The Scenic Route in particular, both shades are two of my all time favourite eyeshadows.
I love the Original loose foundation, and their blushes. I like the finish of the loose eye-shadows as well, but they need to work on their website and have some better quality swatches or pictures of the shades. Even in store, the eye-shadows are arranged in a very non-customer friendly way. I find that they cannot be swatched easily and you’d have to always depend on the MUA to pick out shades for you.
Their original foundation and mineral veil are the best!
Tried to use others but stopped and realized this is the only thing Ive tried that makes my skin looks great without loading it up with makeup.
I do not like how foundation looks on the skin in most cases but this one is different.
LOVE
I like their loose foundation powder, it looks very natural as long as you find your exact shade, but I find it drying over time. I think they have a great range of shades for their loose eyeshadows. I absolutely love their BB Cream Eyeshadow, despite the gimmicky name and faulty packaging.
On the other hand, I’ve never tried their Ready products. I find the shade selections in their palettes incredibly boring. I’ve never been tempted by even one of them.
Rant: Their foundation powder – I looked like I was 100 years old after the makeup artist/salesperson put it on, and she’s trying to tell me I looked younger??? Of course I walked right out.
I never looked into anything else of that brand.
I absolutely LOVE their Ready shadows – especially the 8-pan, which also include a half-decent brush, but the duos and 4-pans are awesome too. I also like their loose shadows (Moss and Drama are among my favourites) and the fact that you get a hella lotta product for not much money. Same with their loose powder blush. I’ve only tried one of the Ready Blushes (it was actually a freebie that the Sephora store manager took it upon herself to add to the VIB gift bags at a special store event) and it was AWFUL. Looked so promising and like a great blush shade and, going by the Ready shadows, I was expecting great things but this thing had NO pigmentation at all – ZERO. What I also don’t like is that so many of their shadow quads and 8 pans (like The Finer Things) weren’t available in Canada – that really HURT. AND…..I really, really, REALLY don’t like that they’ve not repromoted that amazing eyeliner pencil (I think it was 5 AM – Christine, I know you have/had it and used it – the silvery/gold one that was just unlike anything I’ve ever seen before). So, that’s my Rant and Rave!
They told me they were bringing back the formula for 5AM (not sure about the shade), but I’ve yet to see it come back…
Oh, I would be so happy if they brought back that particular colour. I saw it here on you and was just breathless because it was so very beautiful and so unlike any other liner.
OMG, I googled it, and it’s a stunning olive gold. I would buy in a heartbeat. Bring it back BM, please !!
It’s not completely identical, but it’s close! Have you looked into 3D Billionsire by Smashbox? I think it’s close and it wears so beautifully! 🙂 I hope that helps!
Rant: I don’t really like the atmosphere in the stand-alone stores. It seems really conservative and “old lady-ish” to me. They don’t keep color names consistent with their foundations. The last eyeliner pencils were really bad. The website packing department often messes up orders. So far, it’s been in my favor or fixed immediately, but it shouldn’t happen so often. They often repeat colors in the eye palettes. The loose minerals can be hard to travel with, though they keep improving packaging to help this. Using loose minerals, especially eye colors, has a learning curve.
Rave: I really love BareMinerals. I’ve been using them 17-18 years. I’ve never had a reaction bad or allergic reaction to anything they make. When my skin was hyper-oily and acne-prone, and my allergies were really bad (and the products and medications weren’t available like today), this brand was a godsend. Aside from a few products, their quality is excellent. They have a lot of great eye colors with lots of variety, steadily expand their product range, and work to improve packaging and other issues. The online customer service is excellent. The loose powder products last a long time because you need use so little. I don’t care for their stand-alone stores, but my local one does have nice, knowledgable staff on the rare occasions I venture in.
I don’t generally use this brand, but the 5-in-1 BB Cream Eyeshadow is one of my absolute favorite products. It works as a shadow or primer and lasts all day.
Rant: I tried the Marvelous Moxie lip glosses a couple years ago and the smell was revolting. I had to wipe it off because I was actually on the verge of puking and the smell wouldn’t go away. Never again.
Rave: The blushes and original foundation are incredible!
I hate the smell, too! I love the finish and the color of the one I have (I got it as a freebie) but the smell is so bad I wouldn’t purchase it.
I tried their regular mineral foundation over 15 years ago and it broke me out. Recently I bought a couple of their kits. I liked their tinted lip balms and that’s about it! The loose blush is also pretty good.
I remember trying their powder foundation 10 years ago. Since I have oily skin and large pores, by the end of the day powder seeped into my pores and my face looked disgusting. I returned it and never wore powder foundation again. Haven’t really tried much or been interested in this brand. I have a little bronzer from who knows when that is just fab because it’s actually a deep colour, but I rarely reach for it because I dislike using loose powders. It’s just inconvenient. Yeah, I really don’t know much about BM otherwise… Maybe I should go peruse Sephora 🙂
I’ve only tried one of their Ready eye quads, but I really like it and will probably buy another at some point.
I love the Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating gel cream, the Prime Time BB Primer Daily Defense Broad spectrum, the 5-in1 cream eye shadow, and the Pop of Passion blush balm. I don’t like the powder eye shadows because they’re too sparkly.
rave: I love the buxom lip glosses, and had a sample of a marvelous moxie lipstick that I really liked until I smooshed it by accident. their original foundation was the first thing i tried that i could actually stand to wear, in terms of face makeup, because everything i’d tried before it even tinted moisturizer felt heavy and gross on me.
rant: unfortunately i stopped using that foundation because something in it breaks me out in huge, swollen, painful under-the-skin pimples – the super painful ones you can’t even see except for the huge swollen lump on your face. i’ve been wary to try anything “mineral” since which is a shame because i was attracted by the idea that it was more natural and in theory better for your skin… but not mine!
Rave – love their Ready eye shadow range – I own the Playlist and the Wild Thing. Am aiming for the Scenic Route as it has the best olive colour around I think.
Rant – very hard to buy in Australia. I also think they re-promote too many colours for consumers too.
Love love their 5-in-1 Advanced BB Cream Shadow with SPF15. I have oily lids and use it as base for my powder shadows, and it prevents creasing all day on my oily lids. And the shade Linen is a match for my skintone, so doubles as concealer, eye brightener, and has SPF (wooohooo!!!)
Their foundations are amazing, especially the new serum foundation. Great quality, coverage and price. Can’t be beat!
Long ago I used to always purchase their televised special collections. There has been done really stuff! Sadly, the loose foundation was so shimmery, I quickly lost interest. Then they began branching out more when I was on a large time off.. They’ve really grown as a brand with many well reputed products! The Ready eyeshadow, for example. I’ve not had the experience with them to fully disclose my thoughts, but I’m not a lover of their products currently, no tingle lip gloss for me, and it’s s shame because I truly like what I see when they release something. I’m looking forward to seeing where else they go.
Has anyone mentioned Complexion Rescue? Light, refreshing, good color match and medium coverage. Love.
Never had the chance to try the brand but they seem to have some really lovely palettes.
I am the biggest fangirl of this brand and it’s my favorite make up brand of life! I should work for them how much I rave. I just went to the outlet an hour and a half from where I live yesterday and wish I had bought more stuff. I take regular trips there several times a year.
Rant: Eyeshadow repromotes in kits is really the most annoying thing ever. Their lipglosses are not my favorite. I don’t like the lasting line liners.
Rave: They make my HG bronzer, highlighters, eyeshadows, foundation. I love the lipsticks. I collect the mineral veils and the radiances/ all-over-face colors. I just think the face products are phenomenal. I also love the blushes. I pretty much just love almost everything. I don’t have any issues with this brand breaking me out. I love how lightweight minerals feel on the skin. I feel like I’m using less toxic stuff on my face when I use mineral make up as well. The skin care item I’ve tried are also excellent.
I’ve only tried their Marvelous Moxie lipsticks and so far I am impressed.
I wore their original foundation, mineral veil, bisque and pure radiance for over a decade. I love the moxie lip glosses (I bought a butter cream style one from ulta and didn’t care for it, I like the minty ones ). Loved their blush called kiss and now I can’t find it anywhere … Rant: before they started making pressed shadows they had powder everything. Sooooo many times I knocked things over and made messes.
One last rave. They can be very economical as the foundation lasts a long time.
