Smoky Eyes: Tarnished Gold with Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Palette

Smoky Eyes: Tarnished Gold

A tarnished gold, smoky eye… for school? Sure, why not! Let’s go with that. Wanted to post this before I ran off to class in a few…  that is, if I don’t fall asleep before it’s time to go!  Must. Press. On!

By the way, anyone else going to the Spring Colour Forecast unveiling party at MAC @ Valley Fair (in California) on February 2nd?  I’ll be there at 7pm, so if you see me, say hi 🙂

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Primer Potion as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Wonderland eyeshadow on the inner half of the eyelid. Next, apply Mushroom eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Mushroom eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Mad Hatter eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. To deepen the crease, apply Jabberwocky eyeshadow with the 226 into the crease. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Stash eyeliner on the lower lash line and Honey liner on the lower water line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply In Love blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116. Highlight cheeks with a light dusting of Beige Lumineux Meteorite Powder with the 165.

For lips, apply Beige Mousseline lipstick first, and then layer Champagne Pearl lipgloss for a complementing lip.

Oh! Very, very classy. I like the use of black to smoke it up just slightly. I’ve been trying to have more fun with neutral colors because they are much easier to get away with at work, so I may have to replicate this look tomorrow. Trying to decide which of my blushes and lips to use with it…maybe Otherworldly blush and Warm Me Up l/s with…hm, VGV l/g? 3N? Funny, I have some nice super-neutral or brownish lipglosses, but not many in lipsticks! Gotta think of some to pick up.

daphne Avatar

Heh, well, I tried it today but accidentally used WAY too much of Jabberwocky! It was far too smoky for work. I had to wash it off and was running late by then so I just swiped on some mascara plus Otherworldly blush and…Gems + Nymphette again 🙂 I’ll try it again tomorrow and go very, very easy on the black!

whoa… very very nice would be an understatement Christine… looks like i can work this look on thursdays and fridays at my conservative work place.. cant wait to get my hands on this palette. more so since i am trying to get into UD and not have many stuff.. but how do i get it??

Wilcoa Avatar

Gorgeous! Love the eyes and the lip color is so subtle but beautiful! I’m really lemming the Alice palette, but hopefully I can find it 😛

With any color lights spectacular and very happy, you are my artist, I admire you a lot …. ‘re just so great =). You look very nice … Thanks Cristine for everything that inspire us and try to imitate your looks …

I have a question, maybe some other time has been answered, but sometimes I think that ended my shadows expiring …
You know how long life has a shadow assuming MAC?

Christine Avatar

Technically, powder can last a very, very long time (like YEARS!) because it’s powder, therefore not very susceptible to harboring bacteria. I think the “suggested” shelf life is around two or three years, but I know I own powders much older than that. I know some with shadows as old as ten years!

Julia Avatar

That look is gorgeous! Unfortunatly, I don’t think I would ever get that palette, its a little too expensive.
I won’t be @ Valley Fair ( I live in Canada) but when I lived in California, I would go shopping there all the time! I guess it’s a small world!
P.S. I LOVE aunty Em’s pretzels & that weird lemonade & corndog place!

Mariel Avatar

Christine! This is straight-up gorgeous! I’m a new reader to your blog, and just love this look. I’m much more into neutral shades than colorful ones, so I really enjoyed this post. Still, would like to see what you come up w/ using the other more vibrant colors in the palette. Very cool!

You know I actually prefer the Kiehl’s tinted moisturizer, guess I’m not a fan of the dewy look either! And I really am loving all these Guerlain lipsticks, I’m gonna have to go check them out myself!

LNU Avatar

I totally want to get myself some of these lipsticks, but with the semester starting and all my money going to books, my wallet does not agree! 🙁

LNU Avatar

🙁
I lucked out on about 200 bucks cause the local library had them all for one of my classes, the rest I ended up renting from chegg.com!

Cherie Avatar

Ohh pretty!!!

So, I got my invitation to the spring launch on February 2 in Toronto… don’t I have a work thing to do until 8 PM that night!!!! ARGHHH! Of all nights!!! I’m so sad 🙁

Cherie Avatar

Good idea – I will call today and find out. There is a MAC near the work event I will be at so maybe if I slip out early nobody will notice… 🙂

Brenda Avatar

hahaha!! Today was Maui Wowie day!!! I fell back asleep before my own classes so it was a fast face:

Avon tinted moisturizer
magrittes paint by MAC
Fairytrail by Yaby inner corner
*Maui Wowie all over up to brow bone
and a Nylon dupe from Gosh to highlight!!

Lips were similar colour (on my skin) in Patissere. Point being I love this Look!!!!

Shah'ada Avatar

I really really like this look. I just ordered this palette tonight . . . your two looks super inspired me!!

PS. I’m jealous you’ll be at Valley Fair!!! I’m from Los Altos and now live in boondocks Utah and REALLY miss the amazing shopping (and the BIG MAC store in VF – I’m jealous!!) in the Bay Area!!!

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVING the last pic…christiiiine..whenever you do your tutorials pleeease pleeeease can you take a pic just like the last one in this tutorial (u know the distant full face pic where you can see the colors properly)
it gives me a much better idea of when and where i can wear this look..and which dress it would be perfect with
PLEEEEEEASE keep this tiny request of mine in mind…pretty pleeease …i luv it when u take the full face pics…they are MUCH more useful to me 🙂

Rosie Avatar

I love that I have every color in this look. I’m going to try this tomorrow or Friday (well, if I get up in time as today was a moisturizer, blush, liner, mascara day). I love Stash and Honey. You look lovely, thanks for sharing :). How does Alice/painkiller compare to Peace, color wise?

daphne Avatar

I actually swatched the two next to each other the other day. They are in fact nearly dupes! I couldn’t really tell you what the difference was between them.

Chrissy Avatar

I have Mushroom and Mad Hatter aka Twice Baked from the BOS vol. II.. definitely trying this e/s combo out tmw. I love the lip combo (as usual)!

rashmi Avatar

aahhh even i got the invitation in mail and was thinking abt u only ….
me unlucky gal … not for mac but atleaset i had got a chance to meet u 🙁
anyways hard luck

u r looking stunning in this but pls tell me is there any gel or something in ur hair … i have lot of baby hair so whenever i do a ponytail my hair looks so messy
is their any trick to make them look neat?

rashmi Avatar

thank u christine
i googled the word pomade and got to know about “murray’s pomade ”
is this the one u were talking abt or any other ….
is it harmful for hair ???

Christine Avatar

I haven’t tried that one… I think the one I have is by Citrix or something. You can probably find lots of them – it’s kind of like wax or really, really thick transparent gel for hair to help tame those flyaways.

Something like this… http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=162272&catid=12252&trx=PLST-0-CAT&trxp1=12252&trxp2=162272&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-CAT

i LOVE it!! the eyes are beautiful…i love the color combination of antique gold with hints of taupe…my dream combination! i see some smokey green reflects are well!

Alisha Endre Avatar

This is a great smokey “day” option. Something about the gold/brass color is non-obtrusive so it just makes the eyes pop and look sexy without looking as though you are still in last nights party makeup or something. lol.

with a lighter hand, i would even wear that to the office.

BEAUTIFUL as always!

Jenn Avatar

Nice look! I won’t be @ Valley Fair this go round. I’m still on the east coast. I will be moving to your neck of the woods this summer. My husband just got a job in Mountainview and they are letting him work from MD while we work on the big move.

Roxanne Avatar

Hi!

I’m doing alright, thank you for asking. I’ve started my internship a few weeks ago and it is truly EXHAUSTING — but SO interesting!! Still trying to desperately catch up with all of your posts and looks, you’ve been a busy girl, Christine!

How are you? Holding up well in your classes?

MissTiss Avatar

Hmm. I just commented that I like the Bobbi Brown t/m better, but maybe I’m mistaken. Could you post a side by side? Also what’s your MAC shade again? I’m t/m hunting.

I love neutral looks on you. So elegant!

dolce aria Avatar

Theres an event the Second? I thought the collection came out the 11th!

i love the tarnished gold theme on you-I can’t pull that off though. It takes a lot of finagling to get colors THAT warm to work on my skin! I may have to try again though.

dolce aria Avatar

Ah. That makes more sense then. Here I was hoping they were going to release it a week or so early.

I think that there is something more than coincidence in the Color Forecasts release at the same time as Vday and my anniversary.

Meh. Now I must see if the local stores are doing any events. I REALLY want to see this collection, though it wouldn’t hurt to wait a few weeks.

I think its just that I haven’t bought more MAC since my last splurge(atlantic blue, winkle, moons reflection, and aquadisiac. I am in love with all of them!)

Ashley Avatar

I just bought my palette yesterday and tried this look this morning- it came out great!! Can’t wait to see what other looks you come up with 🙂

CC Avatar

I love this look! I have never used Urban Decay shadows, I only have MAC shadows. But this looks makes me want to buy the Alice in Wonderland palette ♥

Melanie Avatar

I did this look to go to my boyfriends graduation party and it looked so pretty and it was the easiest look i’ve ever done cause i had someone telling me what to use and do, and i got complements so thanks a lotta
p.s i just realized we have the same skin tone

Janet Avatar

going out to dinner and couldn’t think of a look so i found it and just tried this look out! i love how it looks! thanks so much! 😀
