1. Moisturize and prime my skin.
2. Eyeshadow on upper lid.
3. Under-eye concealer.
4. Eyeshadow on lower lashline.
5. Eyeliner, mascara, glitter, etc.
6. Foundation and concealer on the entire face.
7. Eyebrows!
8. Contouring followed by blush and/or highlighter.
9. Lipliner and/or lipstick.
10. Powder, blotting, touch-ups, any last minute decisions!

That’s my little 10-step routine. When I have the luxury of extra time, it usually takes me about 2 hours total since I do things slow and I’m a perfectionist. But in a rush, I can get it done in about 30-45 minutes. 🙂

The very first thing I do is curl my lashes. That keeps me from accidentally messing up my eye makeup later (also keeps the curler cleaner), and if I’m going to use a mascara primer, I put it on right away.

I’ll do eye makeup first if I’m using loose powders/pigments or stuff that I expect to generate fall-out. Otherwise, base first: undereye corrector/concealer, foundation, spot/redness concealer. Cream highlighter and/or blush if I’m using cream ones, then setting powder, as I find most cream formulas don’t blend that well on top of the powder. Powder blush/highlighter/contour after setting powder. Then eyes: shadow, liner, mascara, brows. Then lips. I also check whether I need more blush after the lippy is on, as the colour can affect how bright or not the blush looks, and my dry cheeks sometimes eat blush too.

Kat Avatar

Lip balm, eyeshadow, liner, mascara, primer, foundation and/or concealer, powder, blush, lip liner, lipstick and/or gloss.

… but I’m usually too lazy for that, so I just do mascara, primer, concealer, powder, gloss!

Sarah Avatar

For me it’s concealer, foundation (sometimes foundation then concealer), setting powder, eyeshadow, mascara, cheek colour, then lip colour. I don’t usually do my brows, but if I do its usually after eyeshadow, or even after lip colour if I find I have extra time.

Linda Avatar

Eye primer, face primer, eyeshadow, upper lash liner, waterline liner, concealer, foundation, smoke out lower lash line, settling powder, mascara, brows, blush, highlight, lips.

Tuss Avatar

I always do my foundation/concealer/powder first, then my eyebrows, because I don’t want to be in a hurry when I do them. Also, when I did my eyebrows, I can go do my lips or eyes or something, and then go back to my eyebrows to see if they are asymmetrical – you usually don’t see it if you’re staring at them, so it helps to focus on something else.

full procedure: primer, foundation, under eye concealer, concealing lightening pen or highlighter under eyes, finishing power/compact foundation/pressed powder/suble highlighter as finishing powder, eyebrow highlighter, eyebrows, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, concealer for the face, contour, blusher, highlighter for T zone, nose bridge, cheekbone, cupid’s bow and the highest point of chin, a fake mole on the part of the face i so wish to on that specific day and mood……….gosh, that’s quite a bit of complication. isn’t it.

Summer Avatar

Assuming this is a heavy make-up day, for me 🙂

*Primer/foundation
*Eyebrows
*Eye shadow
*Blush
*Highlighter
*Liner
*Mascara
*Setting powder
*Lipstick/gloss

Yay lists!

Drea Avatar

Sunscreen first everywhere but the eye area, while I wait 20 minutes for it to sink in, eye primer, brows, eyeliner, mascara, and then after a cup of tea, the 20 minutes is up, so powder foundation, blush, setting powder, lip balm.

Valentine Avatar

sorry my earlier reply missed one crucial part, this is the corrected steps:

my personal full procedure, if i have time – that is to say 90% of the time I don’t have the time 🙁

primer,
foundation,
under eye concealer,
concealing lightening pen or subtle highlighter under eyes,
finishing power/compact foundation/pressed powder/suble highlighter as finishing powder,
eyebrow highlighter,
eyebrows,
eyeshadow,
eyeliner,
mascara,
concealer for the face,
contour,
blusher,
highlighter for T zone, nose bridge, cheekbones, cupid’s bow and the highest point of chin,
lipstick,
a fake mole on the part of the face i so wish to on that specific day and mood

gosh, that’s quite a bit of complication. isn’t it. but it’s not difficult to do. just half about half an hour that’s it.

I do eye primer, brows, eyeshadow, top liner, lashes, face primer, foundation, concealer, powder, contour/bronze, blush, lower lash line and inner tear duct eyeshadow/liner, highlighter/illuminating powder, setting spray, mascara, lip color.

Nicole Avatar

I generally comb thru lashes and brows,do brows, lashes, other eye makeup(except lower mascara). Then I do my foundation, tinted moisturizer, concealer, setting powder, contour, highlight(those I really don’t have and order),finishing powder(sometime I skip this), bronzer to the high points( sometimes),lower mascara, setting spray or moisturizing spray or both (depends on my skin and what is going on), then usually i will do my hair, then go back and do lips! Whew..thats a full face! I typically don’t do that every day. Lately,I have been dealing with complications of a medical issue that with along with the medicines leaves me a wreck. Luckily, i am able to do mist of my work from home now. So, most days I am lucky to shower and get in skin care, concealer brows, mascara, powders, blush, lip gloss.:).. And that is if I have a dr appointment of somewhere I have to go to!

Emily Avatar

For everyday looks I apply my base first: moisturiser, concealer, primer and foundation, setting powder, bronzer, blush (and highlight if I’m feeling like it)

Then it’s brows and eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and then lip colour.

If I’m doing a heavier eye look I’ll leave the complexion til afterwards 🙂

Emily

Jennifer Avatar

I was always taught in art class to work around the canvas. I generally do complexion steps, then either eye or lip, depending on which is the focus. Then I sort of float about, doing highlighting and brows and mascara and blush and powder and all that.

Mariella Avatar

I have no set order. It pretty much depends on whether or not I’m waiting for something to dry (eye primer/foundation primer) or if I’m wearing any foundation/bb/cc cream at all or just going for mineral powder….so, basically, it’s just marginally controlled chaos and no order and sometimes, I forget a step entirely (forgot to put on concealer a week or so back…talk about SCARY!)

Kitty Avatar

Brows, concealer on eyelids as primer and on areas of face except under eyes, eyeshadow on lids, eyeliner on top lid, mascara on top lashes, concealer under eyes, contour pencil (if used), setting powder where all concealer has been applied, eyeliner under eyes, mascara on bottom lashes, blush, finishing powder, highlighter (if used).

Rachel Avatar

I’m one of the few who prefers to do face makeup before eye makeup.

Primer -> foundation -> corrector -> concealer -> contour (rarely) -> blush -> highlighter -> eye primer -> shadow -> liner (rarely) -> mascara -> lipstick -> setting spray

mara Avatar

my go to process is face/eye moisturizer, eye primer, eye shadow, eye liner then i go into the face primer, liquid foundation, concealer & face blush/bronzer/contour/powders then mascara & lips last!

Rachel R. Avatar

For a full makeup day (written out, it looks much more “done” and complicated than it actually is):

Lip balm
Face firming cream
Fine line corrector around eyes and on lids
Face moisturizer or BB cream
Eyeshadow primer
Foundation with sunscreen (if not using BB cream)
undereye concealer, if needed
setting powder
eyes
eyebrows
blush, contour cheekbones and nose, highlighter
setting spray
curl lashes and first coat of mascara
lips
second coat of mascara

Of course there are variations due to time, weather/heat, activities, how good my skin is that day, or if I just feel lazy.

Primer, foundation, brows, eyeshadow, liquid liner, concealer, setting powder, eyeshadow on lower Lashline, pencil liner, mascara, bronzer, highlight, blush, lippie 🙂 don’t always do all of this, I skip steps often!

Sophia B. Avatar

On a daily basis I will do very natural makeup:

1. tinted moisturizer
2. concealer
3. setting powder
4. blush, highlighter or both
5. a sweep of sheer, shimmery shadow on the lids
6. mascara
7. lips!

Lotus Avatar

Skin care and prep, base, light setting of translucent powder, eyes, blush, any concealing or extra touch ups like that if needed, highlight, setting powder, comb brows & apply brow groom gel, mascara, lips, then any extra touches to my entire look, head-toe, I may feel like adding! 😀 Fun question!

Irene Avatar

I don’t usually wear a lot of eye makeup, so for me it’s primer, foundation, concealer, liquid highlighter, setting powder, powder blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, eyelash curler, mascara, brow powder and gel. If I’m using dark eyeshadows or doing a smokey eye however, I will start with my eyes and then everything else in the same order as always.

Janet Avatar

I always start by doing my eyes first because I somehow always need to remove fallout or mascara and then I don’t ruin my face makeup. So eye primer, eyeshadow, liner, mascara, face primer, concealer, foundation, concealer to touch up if needed, setting powder, bronzer, highlighter, blush, lip balm ( I can’t do lipstick) and then a setting spray.

Tasha Avatar

1. Face primer
2. Foundation
3. Eye primer
4. Eyeshadows
5. Concealer
6. Under eye and setting powder
7. Bronzer, contour
8. Blush
9. Hightlight
10. Mascara
11. Lipstick

Adriana Avatar

Primer, foundation, concealer, brows, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, contour or bronzer, blush, highlighter (not always) and lipstick. Sometimes setting powder.

IRockFaces Avatar

On a good day: Eyeshadow base, glam style eyeshadow, Anastasia brows, face primer, liquid foundation, concealer, setting powder, blush. Done.

Option 2: When I only have 5 mins or less …. Bold lipstick, cream eyeshadow (no base required, yaaaay), brow pencil, powder foundation (if I can grab it in time).

shannon Avatar

Face primer,Foundation, concealer, setting powder, blush, eye primer, eye shadow, mascara, liner (I only put liner on my lower lashline :D), and then lipstick!!

Pasheeda Morris Avatar

My routine consists of the following:
I.) Moisturize my skin.
II.) First, I prime my eyelids with a eyeshadow primer.
III.) After priming my eyelids, I apply my eyeshadow and eyeliner on my eyes.
IV.) Once lids are colored and lined, then I comb out my lashes with a lash comb and prime them with a lash primer.
V.) Lashes are primed, I can now apply my mascara to my lashes. I also clean up any mistakes I made during this time with my makeup remover and a Q-tip. I clean off any eyeshadow under my eyes, mascara smudges, etc. My eyes are totally finished. I am ready to do my lips.
VI.) Ready to do lips. I like to apply Chapstick moisturizing lipbalm SPF 15 lip balm on lips before liner and lipstick.
VII.) My lips are primed and moisturized. I line and fill in my entire lips with a lip pencil.
VIII.) The “cherry” on top of the Chocolate cake? I apply my lipstick either straight from the tube or painting it on my brush. Voila, my face is fully done.
IX.) Note: If I have any excess oil on my face, I take a few blotting papers to my face and blot the excess oiliness from my face. I am ready to go!

Gillian Avatar

After moisturiser it goes:

Sunscreen
Matte primer
Foundation
Concealer
Powder and blush (the order depends on whether I’m using a powder blush or cream blush)
Highlighter
Eye primer
Eyeshadow
Eyeliner
Mascara
Lipstick, lip balm or, rarely, lipgloss

It doesn’t take me long to do my makeup but if I’m going out I’ll take more time. It’s just something I find very relaxing and it just cheers me up when I can look at myself in the mirror and not recoil in horror!

Annette Avatar

Lancome Moisturizer, Primer, Lighter foundation center of face, one shade darker on outer, eye primer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, contour under cheekbones, powder blush, then cream on the apples. Lipliner, lipstick, Set face with translucent powder. DONE!

Celeste Avatar

Mascara (It gets everywhere. I clean it up with a swab and bioderma), base, eyeshadow and liner, concealer, highlight, blush, powder, bronzer, lips. Then an extra blot or powder touch-up on the T-zone after finishing up my hair. It takes about 20-35 minutes. If I’m in a hurry I’ll skip base and only use one eyeshadow then it takes 15.

Emilie Avatar

I do my eyeshadow, eyeliner, concealer, powder, mascara, bronzer, highlighter, blush, lips all in that order 😉 It’s ordered that way mainly by priority, because sometimes I end up running out of time and have to run out without finishing the last few steps! Lips are a priority, but it’s not hard to pick up something like a gloss or tinted balm to apply as I go so that always comes last (unless I’m planning a bold lip).

Shayni Avatar

1. Eyelid pimer: Well-rested or Too Faced Candlelight

2. I “tightline” my top lashes. Then I apply mascara. Then I line my bottom lid (if I’m lining it that day).

3. Face Sunscreen/Primer (usually Clinique CityBlock or Even Better Lotion)

4. Eye sunscreen – Clinique Superdefense SPF 20)

5. Foundation

6. SPF lip Balm

7. Lip color
