This week’s Mellan photo…
Lately, this has been his favorite spot! And then he just snores and dreams all day, if you let him.
Can I be Mellan? I need a nap too haha
Haul: There’s a 20% Ulta coupon taunting me…lol
Weekend plans: Probably just packing for LA and crying that I can’t go to NYC on Tuesday bc I can’t take more time off
What’s your best money-saving tip?: If it’s drugstore make up, I like to wait for 40% off sales, stack coupons, and if shopping online stack on Ebates.
Right? I’m like, “Ugh, I want to nap. Why are you napping?!?! It’s not fair!”
I love a sleeping dog . they are so peaceful.
Monica
Very true 😀
You are so right! Keeping track of what we spent makes so much sense and I do this since a very long time. I find it still very heplful and I love the cute pictures a lot <3
xx from Bavaria/Germany, Rena
Great habit to have, Rena!
Haul: Nada. (But my wish list is growing longer every day!)
Weekend plans: Looks like tea tomorrow is going to be scuttled by a snowstorm, but we’re taking my mom out for brunch on Sunday, which should be fun. Also going to start reading “Gone Girl” — looks even better than the movie!
What’s your best money-saving tip?: Absolutely keep a log of what you spend, every penny! You’ll be amazed to see where all your cash disappears to!
Have fun at brunch, Alix 🙂
Haul: Viva Glam Miley!! Lipstick and lipglass 🙂 I also had a stress shopping day and picked up the Anastasia contour kit, a mini UD all nighter spray (not sure I’m convinced it works), NYX Wicked Lippie in Power, and some Katy Perry Lashes!
Weekend plans: get my hair cut! My pixie is growing out into some weird mullet bob, and it needs to stop.
Money Saving tip: I’m horrible with money, but I find that working in cash helps me a lot. It makes expenses more concrete when you can SEE your funds decreasing. Similarly, it helps me to save in an old-school jar vs. an account. I can see the money collecting, and I’m less likely to just transfer it to my spending account.
It is so true that spending with cards/checks/Paypal lacks the tangible feel of money going in and out!
Hi, I always have a hard time picking out the right shade of foundation. I would like some help please, I’m in the shade nc42 in mac studio fix fluid. What are some drugstore foundations that can match with my skin
Thank you
Hi!
Start here: http://www.temptalia.com/foundation-matrix
Then:
1. Click Existing Shade
2. Click or type in “MAC” and select “MAC”
3. Select Studio Fix FLuid
4. Select NC42
5. Go to “Filter Foundations By:” and click “Price.”
6. Select Under $10, $10-$20.
7. Click “Filter.”
You’ll get results for more budget-friendly formulas. Alternatively, you could Filter Foundations By a particular brand, like Maybelline, Revlon, etc.
Haul: I was a good girl this week and only picked up a Wet n Wild lipstick, Loreal mascara, a Milani and Rimmel shadow pencils
Weekend plans: I’m out of town with my bffs so hopefully we have lots of fun this weekend!
Best money saving tip: Learn to coupon! There’s literally coupons/discount codes for everything. I rarely pay full price for anything these days lol
Have a blast with your BFFs, Fancie!
Repurchased Clinique chubby sticks for lips x1, for eyes x2.
Relax this weekend.
I keep track of every purchase I make.
Mellan looks so comfy, the boys love to lay on blankets. xoxo for Mellan from the boys and me. Have a great weekend Christine.
Which Chubby Sticks for eyes did you get, Lily?
Whopping Willow and Lotts o’ Latte for eyes.
Haul: Fabric and use my Ulta 20% off
Weekend plans: Sewing a few skirts
What’s your best money-saving tip? Make a budget
What are you planning to use with your 20% off coupon?
Probably the new Real Techniques Sculpting Brush. I think they’re buy 1 get one half off right now, so I’ll probably get two. I haven’t seen many reviews on them, but it seems like a :hybrid” of the Expert Face Brush and the Retractable Kabuki Brush…two brushes that I love!
Haul: NARS Douceur
Weekend plans: Recover on sleep. It’s hard to think about anything else when you’re exhausted.
What’s your best money-saving tip?: I very much agree with keeping track. Take the last few paycheck periods and average out what you spend and where. For my part, it helped me see how much we ate out a few years ago. After adjusting our budget to eat out less, we also committed ourselves to going to the grocery store more often on the way home to maintain fresh produce. We shop for two meals, see what ingredients we have leftover and plan the next meals around using those up. We now spend significantly less on the groceries and did it without the shock of “cut the bill by X.” Plus, I learned to make a great steak.
As for the saving itself, keep goals in mind so you don’t dig out of your savings unless it’s an emergency. Think about a trip to a place you always wanted to go but know the money is there in case you need to replace a tire.
I hear that! Get some sleep, recharge, and hope you can start the week refreshed, A. Mar! 🙂
We recently took a closer look and realized that we were spending far more on TV than we needed (because in my house, maybe 30 minutes of TV is watched a day… at most), and the few things we watched were on channels you could get in the more basic packages, so we cut back a lot on that. Won’t miss it, frees up money for something we’ll enjoy more 😀
Where did you find NARS Douceur? I *need* a backup, and it’s not on NARS’ site…
It appears to be getting discontinued. I bought it online from Sephora. I checked and they still have it in stock!
Aww..the hard life of a pampered pooch.:)

Weekend Plans:
I am supposed to take my daughter to Lousville,Ky Sat. We have friend there whom she is friends with the daughter. it’s the little girls bday party. Problem is ,the Dr’s have me on some funky medications and I have been very dizzy all week and I am not sure on the drive at this point. still tying to find someone to ride with me. I have felt so bad, I have not even unboxed all those goodies above! “initial side effects”..seeing a neurosurgeon next week. the meds are just too much..ugh.
Best saving money tip? make a budget and stick to it!
Oooh! Will be curious if you love your SUQQU brush, Nicole.
Fingers crossed you can find someone to head to Louisville with you! Feel better.
Oh,I have played with it..it’s pretty nice..we will see how nice:)
Thanks sweetie..yeah,my daughter will be crushed if we don’t go.
Did you get you other meteorites shades in? Notice any difference? I really am not? Lol.I just put one on each side of my face.
Dont work too hard this weekend Christine!:)
Haul: Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni and Monoi Smooth and Repair Rinse Out Conditioner and the glosser spray from the same collection, I also got a gold and black chain necklace from Etsy and a pearl choker style necklace with a black rose. The second one is from an Etsy shop called Elemeez, and they sent 2 pairs of free earrings as a gift. I thought that was really generous. Most shops send just one.
Weekend plans: Relax! I have earned a break. 🙂
What’s your best money-saving tip?: Oh gosh, maybe I can get some good ones from other people. 🙂 One tip I can give is to wait for sales on makeup. Many drugstores eventually put every brand on sale at some point, so I almost never pay full price for a lipstick or nail polish (unless it’s Sinful Colors). It’s also good to search for coupons online and print them out. I like to wait for a sale, then when there is one I go online and look for a coupon that can be used on the same brand, so I can save even more. I once got a Maybelline Color Elixir lip gloss for $2.50 using this method (40% off store sale, then I used a coupon to save even more).
Enjoy your break, Chris! Hope you get a chance to recharge.
Me too. I’ve complained a lot about how hard I worked on all those papers, so you know how much I need this. 🙂
Haul: Hourglass palette, L’oreal Manga effect mascara.
Weekend plans: Roadtrip!!!! Moving to Colorado! YAY!
What’s your best money-saving tip?: Categorizing things strictly and really dig deep for dupes with similar performances but less of the price, instead of impulsive purchasing.(I learned it hard way, but really stick with this rule in the past 8 months. ) I have couple boxes full of unused full-sized skincare from hauls during the holidays, mostly with 20% discount when there was a sale. I always check that box first before I buy new things.
but this rule doesn’t quite apply for makeup products….There are always new and exciting products out there, with trendy colors…sigh
Haul: Nothing, unless you count the NARS lip pencils from the Sephora BI birthday gift my brother picked up & gave me… Cruella is a *perfect* red, and Rikugien is a great MLBB shade for me!
Plans: I’ve been sick with sinusitis the past couple of days, so I have a ton of housework to get done… I was planning on hitting the mall/Ulta Sunday to try and grab the UD Vice LTD palette, but somehow the excitement has worn off, and I don’t think I want it anymore. I guess UD’s plan to manufacture hype just backfired, LOL!
Saving Money: I write down everything I want/need, and budget around that list. I also have a savings account that automatically pulls out a set amount every month, that’s also an overdraft protection account, and that helps both save & avoid overdraft fees.
Haul: I scooped up the LE Mac Matte Lipstick in Nouvelle Vogue, from this past spring/summer. I got the very last one that was hiding in a corner of a drawer at my local Nordstrom.
Weekend plans: Finishing a dissertation chapter!
Money-saving tip: My hubby and I create envelopes for big purchases. Like, we literally write our goal on the top of a letter envelope (e.g. “Rome vacation” or “art” or “new mattress”), slip it into a sock drawer, and then add $10 to it here and there. Like Estefania said, there’s something to seeing tangible money that makes saving it seem like a genuine accomplishment. The goal helps, too. We bought our Tempur-pedic in $2000 of cash – so proud to pull wad out at Sleepy’s — though not sure what the salesman thought 🙂
Haul: Les Merveilleuses Ladurée Fards à joues Rose Ladurée (Rose Petal Blush) in 001 Eugénie and 002 Ninon, Almost had Dior Diorific in 024 Liz, except when I opened the box the wrong shade, 040 Marilyn, was inside. Can’t even return it, was from Sephora Paris. 🙁
Weekend plans: Last weekend to relax before classes start.
What’s your best money-saving tip?: Use cash/debit for things you buy too much of, for me that’s beauty/skincare items. Using cash really helps me see how much I’m spending right then and there, and think about what else I need or should be saving the money for vs. paying a credit card each month.
Haul: Colourpop lippie stix (Heart On, Leather w/pencil and Clique w/pencil) and e/s (Effect, Rex and Tink) should get them tomorrow. I’m excited!
Weekend plans: work, getting a massage and a long training run
Saving money: basically what you said Christine. Just some months are better than others lol
Haul: Some pharmacy skin care and Olaz skin care
Weekend plans: Skiing with friends tomorrow! Fingers crossed for nice weather.
What’s your best money-saving tip?: Treat yourself to chocolate every time you successfully resist spending money on something you don’t need 😉
Haul: Nothing
Weekend plans: Not sure at this point
What’s your best money-saving tip?: Shop with a list to reduce impulse buys. Stack sales and coupons. Research on the internet to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
*Haul- I’ve been a very good and didn’t buy anything this week. The spring shadow collections have been so disappointing. Either the shadows got poor reviews (Hourglass, Guerlain), swatched poorly in stores (LM Watercolor, Clinique 8 pan), or too many neutrals/ too warm ( Too Faced, Sephora Panetone Marsala ).
*Weekend – birthday lunch, relax
*Money Saving Tip -By buying makeup in kits, waiting for sales, using coupons, cashback rewards, or online discount offers, I got $ 270 worth of makeup for only $ 125 (saved $145). My haul included MUFE (4 artist eye shadows, re-usable compact, re-usable vanity box, 2 glosses, 2 lipsticks, 1 lipliner, 1 mascara, 1 liquid eyeliner) and Rimmel (4 lipsticks).
Haul: All drugstore. Revlon HD Lip Laquer in Pink Ruby, Strawberry Topaz, Smoky Topaz and Pink Sapphire. Maybelline Rebel Bloom lipsticks in Rose Rush, Orchid Ecstasy and Blushing Bud. Rimmel Scandeleyes Eye Paint in 017 Beige. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded. And a $1 ELF eyeshadow primer.
Weekend plans: just my usual. Do my hair and nails, go to my religious meeting on Sunday. And sort through my gazillion nail polishes and give a bunch to a group of young ladies in my congregation.
What’s your best money saving tip: keep to a fairly strict budget by first setting aside the $$$ for necessary expenses, and then out of what’s leftover, take some for wants.
Haul: I’m in the market for a good redness corrective product. Maybe a smashbox green-tinted primer? Though I am open to suggestions!! My red cheeks are getting out of hand!
Weekend Plans: the BF is away with his kids, so I have the house to myself! After hitting the gym, I will clean, relax, probably give myself a facial, and then snuggle up with the dogs for some nice mommy-puppy time!
Money Saving Tip: I have a very detailed budget in Excel that I only deviate from in emergencies or for major home purchases. I live on cash, which I withdraw on payday and I actually separate it into envelopes to carry around! Each envelope is labelled (“gas”, “groceries”, “pet food”, “makeup”) and I have to live within the contents!! It works really well!
Awww sleeping pup. So cute! My little Lola is the same way 🙂
Weekend plans: A little rest after an emergency visit and 8 days at Brigham and Women’s. (All better now.)
Haul: The new Tarte eye primer crayon and bronze eye shadow.
Haul: I completely fell in love with the Lancome spring collection. Bought the eye shadow palette, green eye liner, green nail varnish, and the purplish-pink lip gloss. Love! It’s such a gorgeous green.
Weekend plans: rearranging furniture as I’m having a new dining table delivered.
Best tip: already covered! 🙂
Haul: I had to re-buy my L’Oreal eyeliners because I can’t find them to review.
Weekend Plans: My husband has sprung last minute plans on me AGAIN! I have 2 hours to shower and clean.
Savings: Shop bogo’s and realize needs from wants. You may want 12 purple eyeliners but you probably only need 2-3. Those are first world suggestions, lol.

Weekend plans: Just had my birthday dinner with my in-laws, and that’s about all I got planned for the weekend.
What’s your best money-saving tip?: I’m going to take notes on everyone else’s tips!
P.S. Mellan is a dog after my own heart!
So jelly of Mellan! Haha he looks so cozy!
I wrote a huge post on my iPad & it didn’t show up when I hit submit comment! Dannnng!

Weekend: Mom’s bday dinner & a run with my brother!
Money saving tip: track your purchases & cut out unnecessary spending!
He is one lucky dog. Very content with his life thanks to you.
My ColourPop stuff arrived. I’m in love. My money saving tip is to not browse for more colourpop.
Haul: Nothing
Weekend plans: Planning my kitchen and looking for a floor.
What’s your best money-saving tip?: Can I quote you, Christine? “Keep track of what you spend money on, because it helps you understand your finances better and where you want to spend vs. where you can cut back (without affecting your happiness).” That’s is also my advise.
I think I need a nap now… 😉
Haul: My secret stealth loot acquisition is still in progress! Muahahaha! 😀 It’s only a little one, though.
Weekend Plans: Thesis stuff, maybe going to check out the special exibition that’s at the gallery this month!
A Rogue’s Money Saving Tips: When you see that shiny hand-held mindflayer-repelling stealth crossbow you want, walk away. Let it cool for a bit, even if it’s just going to browse in some other traders/have a cup of mead/walk in the park first. Have a good think (while away from the item) about whether you really want it, or whether you have similar implements of projectile-based destruction already. 😀
Also: While sales and coupons are awesome, take that pause again and check if there was actually anything you *really* wanted (preferably for a couple of dungeons’ time). Unless the coupon/sale adds up to like 99% off, you’re still going to be spending a certain (possibly substantial) amount of money that you might not have if you hadn’t seen that tempting offer – which is what the weaponsmith is counting on, LOL! If you go through this process, it’s a lot easier to be confident that you’ve made a worthwhile purchase, and you usually appreciate the thing more!
Haul: Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina, Sebastian Penetraitt Shampoo and Conditioner, and NYX Slim Lip Pencils in Natural and Nude Beige
Weekend Plans: Cleaning, relaxing and brunch with my parents!
Best Money Saving Tip: Have a budget, know where your money is going and pay off your credit cards at the end of the month!
I missed Friday, but I wanted to post my haul: a few ColorPop eyeshadows, as per your reviews! 😛 So Quiche, you will be mine. Plus that bright purple NYX Wicked Lippie (despite the not-so-great review; I think I just need to get the purple out of my system) and a RT Brushed Metals brush — a surprise for my sister’s birthday this spring.
You are the WORST for my low-buy, dude. 🙂
Haul: aVeda intense hydrating mask…another Caroline Hirons suggestion…I feel like a broken record.
Weekend plans: bake a cake for and attend my husband’s best friend’s daughters birthday. Plan my space unit for my grade 2/3s and plan some alphabet centres for my kindergarten students.
Money saving tip: budget, budget, budget
Awww Mellan is such a cutie…this is weird but I feel like he and Striker (my dog) would get along great since they’re both so fond of napping on furniture haha
