Stila Jewel Eyeshadow Palette for Spring 2010 Review, Photos, Swatches

Beautiful, Glittering Eyes with Stila’s Jewel Eyeshadow Palette

Stila Jewel Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00) is a mysteriously glittering, shimmering palette. When I saw the promotional images for the palette, I was definitely curious — who doesn’t love some glitter? (OK, I know a few of you don’t, but shh!)

I find myself at a loss as to how exactly to describe the texture and feel of these eyeshadows. They feel almost wet, but not really creamy and certainly not powdery. They apply fairly sheerly when used, though they can be layered for a slightly more intense look.

Since it has a bit of a creamy feel (but it’s sooo not a cream shadow!), I patted the Golden Topaz shade all over my lid, just to see what kind of fall out we were looking for. I wasn’t even concerned about staying power, because it wasn’t over a base, so I expected it to crease. Well, it didn’t. It didn’t crease after just having patted it on my lid for over an hour. There was also very, very minimal fall out (like I saw three or four sparkles). Typically, I find myself having to strategically apply foundation over glittery bits and doing all sorts of tricks to make sure my undereye area isn’t more sparkly than my eyelid.

  • Golden Topaz is a soft peachy-brown with champagne shimmer/glitter.
  • Amethyst is a medium dark purple with red undertones and soft golden glitter.
  • Black Diamond is black with silver glitter.
  • Rose Quartz is a light-medium rosy pink with silver glitter.

I was pleasantly surprised at Stila’s newest palette for the spring season. I just wasn’t expecting it to knock my socks off, and I admit I was totally expecting the glitter to fall everywhere. But you know what’s REALLY awesome about this? It looked like my lids were wet. The color really does look like shimmering water. Gorgeous!

Now, I just hope they’ll release another one of these, but with vibrant jewel-tones… say a deep blue, mermaid teal…

Black Diamond, Pink Quartz and Amethyst are the best colours in the palette! I like golden topaz as well but the pink, purple and black together are gorgeous.

wow i love the black one! but like you i hope they will come up with other colors, deeper the better. lighter tones with glitters will probably make my eyes look like ive cried for 3 days. lol

I’ve been on a makeup, shoe, book, and clothes shopping hiatus for a long time, and had intended to continue in that vein… But this might be the one to break this longest streak of prevailing willpower. MUST HAVE.

Christine, do you think these might be similar dupes (in texture) to Pixiewoo’s newest tutorial. She uses RMK’s metallic gold eyeshadow. What would be a good dupe for that lol ?

Those black and purple shades look pretty amazing, but especially the black. Those look like pressed versions of those MAC pigment things… oh I forgot what it’s called but the container was very flat and you had to “crush” the chucks to use them?

If Stila made that black shadow as a single I’d buy it in a heartbeat! That black would look sooo hot.

it has a decent amount of pigmentation for being a glitter based product. i hate products that are all glitter and no pigmentation and i love these colors!

GOSH!! These are gorgeous! And so different from anything I have…even my most glittery UD shadows don’t look this awesome. Sorry wallet 🙁 I need this. Haha…I’m supposed to be saving my money for Spring Break in Vegas…but what’s a Vegas trip without awesome glittery eyeshadows to wear out? Nothin. Thanks for the swatches, I’d love to see some looks with these!

Hello! I’ve been a reader of your blog for some time but I’ve never actually commented! I just wanted to say it’s so funny how I’ve gotten some of the items that you’ve recently reviewed and I wish I’d seen them before I bought them! Boooo.. Anyways, I just bought the Stila Jewel Eyeshadow Palette and UD Alice Book of Shadows last Friday but I really wish I’d seen a review first. Did you by any chance purchase a TheBalm Shady Lady Vol.2 palette?? I think you’d love it! It’s amazing.

I honestly think that the Alice UD Palette is a lot better than the previous 2 Book of Shadows (since I tend to gravitate towards neutrals.) I’ve owned the previous 2 and I can’t remember ever even wearing them out! ..I ended up passing both of them on but I really like this one. I just dislike the heavy, bulky packaging. It’s not one of those things that you’d want to take on a trip -maybe if they started putting them in normal palettes? That would be awesome.

The Stila Palette is amazing. The only thing I’d have to say I “don’t like” is that it’s so small.. but then again, these aren’t your basic shadows. I’ve been wearing it nonstop and I love the dewy glittery “My eyes are wet” look. I even had guy friends comment -which is pretty cool if guys can appreciate your eye makeup. I really hope they make a few more in different colors. Well thanks again. I keep finding myself on your blog! =)

Thanks for the swatches and review. Sephora.com also has excellent reviews for this. Just wondering what kind of brush(es) you would suggest when applying these?

I finally saw these in Sephora & oh my these are pretty wee shadows! I tried them and couldn’t get them to show on my skin which is light but maybe that’s just Sephora’s prob that it’s had them sitting out for a while. I don’t know, maybe it’s a visual but such small looking shadows for $32 seems too much.
