I love getting them! I especially love the extractions part… I feel like they are getting all of that nasty stuff out of my face. I face always looks and feels better afterwards.
I go once in a while but my mom tries to convince me to go more often. I don’t really like facials because I find it quite boring lying there and my hair is a stiff mess afterwards. Also I seem to break out a bit after each session. Maybe I will try again soon because it has been a few years since I had one. I do enjoy the candle ear wax treatment though. Sounds gross, but it really is quite pleasant.
Yes, have had several…but not nearly enough considereing I’m an Esthetician and give them everyday! Should make it more of a priority to receive them also.
I’ve had a few and loved how they felt. But the price also keeps me away.
Yes, I’ve had a facial done before but I don’t like all the chemicals they use now. It’s more popular to use more scrubs and harsher ingredients. Not my thing so I haven’t been back lately. It’s not even that complicated you can just do it at home. It’s basically just squeezing blackheads + mask formula + warm wet towel + astringent and voila!
i never had one befor .
I had a facial at a spa once. It was boring and smelled funny.
Not yet, but I want to. The price can be scary. I’m also worried they’ll do something too harsh to my skin that I’m not used to.
I’ve had them. I used to get them once every two weeks or so but since my skin got so much better, i get them maybe once every 3 months now. I really like facials, they’re really a treat to your skin and to yourself. It also really improved my skin conditions.
My first one was almost a month ago and it was a European facial. The esthetician is specialized in problem skin such as acne and rosacea. She had a different method to skin care. It is quite unorthodox but it helped my skin so much. Prior to seeing her, i would break out everyday with cysts in group; it’s week 4th and i’ve been break out for a week. I always thought facial was a unnecessary extravagant but now i find that it’s way cheaper and more effective for my acne, given the fact that i spent way more money on skin care products with no result. Do some research and you might find a good affordable place. I plan to go once a month now.
* i meant to say i am on week 4 and been break out free for a week. Before my facial i broke out everyday for 4 months straight. Hope that helped 🙂
I always break out after a facial. I’d rather spend the $100 on a nice face cream… Lasts longer too!
Never had one at a Spa though I do a weekly Volcanic Ash Scrub & Thermal Mask facial from home. THANK YOU MAC! I wish they would make them permanent items.
ALSO! LOVINGG the Mineralize All-Over Lotion – best moisturiser I’ve ever used. My skin looks AMAZING thanks to it. Deffinatly reccomend 😀
I love facials, I don’t get them on a regular basis (too pricey).
If money wasn’t an issue I would though, I think their very good for your skin.
ohhh my my
i know its very costly in USA
but in india we get it done for nearlly Rs.450/-
means $ 10 and if u go to very high end place
it will be nearlly $ 30 – $ 40
or more sometimes
but yes u do get what u pay for
they will apply 2 – 3 masks and then massage will be long
so anyways its really affordable here
hahahh so i do go once in a month or like 45 days
No..never have. I won’t allow random aestheticians to touch my I will only let dermatologists to treat my skin.
I had one done @ mario badescu and I loved to hate it! It was awesome but when I got home it was like was like an oil rig spilled on my face !!
Once. My face looked wonderful afterwards, but the price is just … yeah … I can’t pay that much money very often !!
It is quite my regular activity and I kinda find it quite effective keeping my skin youthful with all the highly-advanced equipment and technology.
What is a facial?
Just a few times. I agree with you. They are expensive. And it is not only that, after the treatment they always try to force sell you some products that I can afford even less.
I’ve actually had facials regularly (about once every month or so) since I was 11 – bad teenage acne totally cleared! The periods I’ve gone without facials were horrid.
I like how almost all your clogged pores are cleared up (although the process might be painful) and the masks that come with the facial are heavenly 🙂
I have. It was pleasant until the extraction LOL. But so worth it. I got it back in December and just now this week have gotten my first pimple since then. And actually, this is more of a bump than pimple. So definitely worth it to give your skin the kick start it needs.
*back in November I meant
I get facials on a regular basis with Elemis. I use their product range at home and so I find the facials compliment that. I particularly like that afterwards I really do see a difference in the way my skin looks and feels – mainly because it’s just so much more hydrated. With Elemis you can also book a course of facials which cuts the price down a little bit. I think 6 facials were £200 and you then get a 7th free, which is quite a good deal!
I’ve also had SK4 facials at a local beauty salon and they’re amazing at sucking out all the clogged up dirt in your skin. Only downside with them is that usually they don’t come with any arm/hand or welcome back massage and they’re relatively short. 🙁
I work in an Aveda salon/day spa, so I’ve had my fair share of facials. I’m sure they are higher priced in the cities, but you can get an excellent relaxing facial for around $65-70 here!
I’ve had one. One year for Xmas my boyfriend got me this huge package deal from a spa that came with a facial, massage, pedicure, manicure, hair color/cut, etc. I liked everything BUT the facial. I picked chocolate and vanilla cause I LOVE those scents. Whatever they did to my face I hated it. It made me break out SO bad. At first it felt like it really cleaned my pores and refreshed my skin, but after I got home my face was so irritated. I don’t have sensitive skin at all so I have no idea what happened. I might get another one later on if I ever get another gift certificate, but I won’t be going out of my way to get one.
I usually give myself a facial at home but I’ve never had one at a salon/spa. They are just far too expensive for me. 🙁
I used to get glycolic facial peels about once every few months when I had issues with acne. I’ve only had a couple of express facials since all my acne cleared up 2 years ago. I need one now actually LoL. But the price keeps me from getting them as well. I usually just do an at home exfoliation and/or mask instead. but I do plan on getting a facial in the spring. I figure one facial every season should be good.
I’ve had many! Your face feels so smooth and refreshed afterwards! Like you, the price stops me from doing it more often.
I always try and get one when Spa Week has their special deals out… I can afford $50 for a facial twice a year… but I agree with Christine that the price puts them out of my reach on a regular basis. The last time Spa Week rolled around I actually found a spa by my family that offered a package of facials at $50 each and I have been spacing them out ever since. That was the best gift I have gotten all year!
Same as you, Christine, I’ve had one but I can’t seem to get another because of the price. I’d rather use fresh masks (esp. from Lush!) and feel like it’s a facial for a great price. 🙂
I used to have one every month or so but I find that sometimes, they don’t do such a good job of cleaning my pores and extracting blackheads. I prefer doing all that myself the old-school way, tissue paper, fingers and a mirror, but I do very much enjoy the facial and neck massage that the therapists do.
I’ve never had one.
Nope, I’ve never had one. But I’d totally get one if I had the money.
ive never had one but ive got one booked for some time soon because i got it for christmas 🙂
Hey Christine. I have gotten facials before and I’ve been to a lot of different spas.. I used to go regularly to Mario Tricoci but once my esthetician quit, I tried someone new and never had the same great experience.
I’ve also had some terrible experiences where the facialist comes in and out of the room to get her tools which ruined the whole experience of relaxing. Some are really rough while doing extractions (and i have sensitive, acne-prone skin!) and that’s never pleasant.
My absolute fave spa is the one inside the Wynn Hotel in Vegas. My facialist was very attentive when I spoke about my skin and what I wanted her to do and not do. She also made suggestions which I like (unless i feel like she’s jus tryna make money offa me without truly caring about my needs). She was very gentle and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. Best experience ever. and it wasn’t as expensive as I expected.
Yes, and they are absolutely great. I’ve had a few. Usually I like to have one twice a year. It really makes my skin glow and look alive afterwards. I hate that they are so expensive.
I have had a couple but price always stops me from doing this religiously – – I start to think how many “must have” items I can purchase with the facial money and it’s off to MAC/Nordies/Sephora, etc. Then, I just do a mini facial myself.
Yes, several at very up end salons, and I always break out after. I’ve given up on them.
I love them, I get them almost every 6 months because it can be too expensive.
I adore facials! They’re too expensive for my budget so it’s been a few years since I’ve gotten one. I love all the potions and brews they use and the mini massages. I think my absolute favorite part of it all is the parafin wax hand dip and massage. Facials never really help my skin but they do seem to make the week more enjoyable.
Quick answer is no, I am 44 and sadly never had the money before and now I could afford it I am housebound and there isn’t anywhere local that does them :0(
I’m afraid to have a facial because I hate massages and pedicures (I know it sounds weird). What exactly is the procedure for an extraction and how is it more effective than the old “squeeze ’til it bleeds” method? I’m really curious so if someone could answer my question that would be great.
I have had them before. I got a packaged deal last year and it was pretty nice. I got a free one at a free beauty event, Sisley was having at Nordstrom, before they did your make-up they gave everyone free facials. I felt really pampered! I have not had one though since then.
I like them…although I only get one maybe once or twice a year. I like that they do extractions which are sometimes difficult to do on your own. I’m lucky enough to work at a company now that will pay for spa treatments (up to $2000/yr) so I have no reason not to go anymore.
Which company is this?!
I have had three or four facials, and the only reason I’ve had ANY is because my aunt was treating me to them! Waaaay too expensive otherwise! I do love them, except for the pain of extractions, and I always seem to break out afterward. I was really hoping they would miraculously cure my acne, but no such luck yet. I haven’t had one since November, and my breakouts are bad lately. I don’t know what to do…!
Yes, I’ve had a couple. They are heavenly!!
I adore them – the Clarins counter at my local department store offered free facials and it was bliss. I bursting to have an Aveda facial, since I’ve heard those are amazing as well.
I don’t have them often, since the free ones haven’t been offered in a long time plus I can’t afford them beyond a special occasion.
Yes i have had them and love them if its with the right person. Love it when skin is clean and glowing and all the extractions are done, though that can be unplesant sometimes. Its a wonderful treat! But now i m not working i cannot afford them much unless there is a special going on in Ulta. Last one i had was before thanksgiving. Dont do the massage bit though, just like make face super clean and radiant.
I have had a facial and would get one again but i never found the place or the time. The last facial was in Ghana
I love my facials every month!! THey are the best… Origins microdermabrasion keeps me held over in between…
I’ve never had one, for several reasons
I am afraid they will use product on my face that isn’t very good
I’m afraid that the esthetician won’t skillful, I wonder how wide a range of knowledge they really have, it seems to me like they would be schooled in whatever product their spa is promoting
If I personally knew an esthetician and trusted her, I would go to her, but I don’t feel comfortable trusting my skin to anyone
when i was in cosmo we recieved student discounts for facials so i took advantage of that. Yes the girls were learning BUT the teacher was alwaysx there watching them :]]. I loved it [except the painful parts] and that was because i was getting fdacials for my bad acne. But it really helped my skin. Now i am acne free!!
I’ve never had a facial, but I want to get one so much!
Or rather, I have had one at the dermatologist’s office, I think. There wasn’t an extraction bit, though.
Have had a variety of facials over the years. Most of them are just too many new products piled on and my skin is overwhelmed. However, I love microdermabrasion facials. They tend to be far more simple — cleaning, microderm, mask, done. Microderm really keeps my acne to a minimum and greatly speeds up the time it takes for an old acne lesion to clear up. Once I switch from freelance to salaried work the first beauty splurge back in routine will be microderm.
Yes, but the ones I get are a bit different from what most people are talking about here. Ideally I’d go once every couple months, but since I’m living away from home, I only go a couple times a year. I go to the skin care clinic associated with a family friend’s cosmetic plastic surgery practice.
I have facials performed by a paramedical aesthetician, and exactly what I have each time depends on my skin at that time. Typically it’s something like: cleansing, degreasing (acetone, it feels cold cold cold but whatever, it’s part of the process) to prep for a glycolic acid micropeel (a little burn, not at all painful), microdermabrasion (where they gently scrape your skin to remove the top layer, it feels weird, but it doesn’t hurt), extractions (that bit hurts), and cryogenic therapy (a CO2 iceball – sounds scarier than it is, it actually feels fantastic, it’s a light freezing of the skin for an anti-inflammatory soothing effect, and they concentrate on the areas of the extractions – it’s like a miracle), nourishing vitamin serum and sunscreen.
I don’t wear makeup for the rest of the day. My skin looks red for a couple hours (I have sensitive skin). For a couple days afterward, I only use a very gentle moisturizing cleanser, and moisturizer and sunscreen – makeup is OK, but I avoid it for the first couple days unless I have a reason not to.
I have never ever ever gotten a breakout from a proper facial, and my skin benefits for literally months afterward. I heartily recommend this sort of facial – I think the benefits are so far beyond what you’ll get at a spa, and I have no fears about what’s going on my skin … I’m *in my dermatologist’s office*.
This sort of facial runs about $100 – $200, so it’s much more expensive, and it’s not as relaxing – you’re not getting a massage, and things aren’t designed specifically to be soothing and to smell and feel nice. But it’s still a pleasant experience, parts of it feel great.
I’d rather go 1/2 as often, paying twice as much for real results.
Oh, and I try to give myself an at-home ‘mini facial’ once a week – I’ll try to evaluate my skin’s needs, and then take time to do a mask or two – it’s nice and relaxing, and it does help a bit – it’s a good thing to do. But I’m very gentle with my skin.
My best friend works at a beauty school & gives me facial when ever I like.
It’s so amazing….
especially the massage itself.
Not sure if I’d pay the money, but considering I get them free it’s obviously worth it!
I had a facial before but i DISLIKED it, it hurt and my face was red and blotchy after wards. I did like how relaxing and peaceful the setting was until she attempted to extract my blackheads!! yikes
I went to an Aveda Institute for school, so I got them all the time. If you want to try a facial, I’d suggest going to a school. I’m clearly biased, but at Aveda, their products aren’t loaded down with chemicals and like someone else said, the instructors are always around making sure everything goes well. Also, check the free papers in your local area (does everyone have those paper that list the cultural events in their area). You’ll often find coupons for services in them.
I’ve had several and I’m quite hooked on getting extractions done. I wish I could do it once a month as suggested by Burke Williams but, alas, my wallet says NO!
My face always feels and looks divine after a facial…
Yes I used to get them monthly! I miss them so much. I’m a SAHM with a 1.5 year old so I rarely even have time for DIY ones now.
