Round-up: Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lip Colors Overview & Thoughts
Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lip Colors ($7.49 for 0.14 oz.) were less impressive compared to the regular and Vivids range (the Vivids being one of my favorite lipstick formulas). If they were marketed as a sheerer formula, they might have worked better, but as-is, they’re not as pigmented as the regular ColorSensational range, while some were had higher slip and looked streaky or uneven when applied. Unsurprisingly, the darker shades in the range performed the best, while the lighter, more pastel-like shades tended to be more difficult to get smooth, even color with. The formula has a sweet, creme brulee-like scent but has a perfume-y taste (not as bad as the Color Elixirs but more noticeable than the Vivids range for me).
MOST UNIQUE: Blushing Bud (B+)
PERSONAL FAVORITE: Coral Burst (A-)

Did you pick up any of the new spring shades? How are you liking yours?
Coral Burst has been calling me name right from the beginning 🙂
Yayyyy! 🙂
I like Rose Rush! I won’t be getting any of these though.
It’s definitely not a favorite launch – the best shades are also dupable!
Coral Burst, Rose Rush and Orchid Ecstasy are my favourites form this collection (i.e. the ones with the least white base). Although Rose Rush isn’t a colour I would personally probably wear, I’m loving it and the name because there are some firey orangeredcoral roses growing at uni at the moment that are exactly this colour ^_^.
I love fiery roses ;D
Wow, thank you for this roundup! Very informative, clear and simple, I absolutely love it!!! I especially like the fact that I can see the shades and compare them side to side (like in your search gallery, but here it’s already all laid out)! Honestly, I don’t know how I could possibly do my shopping without your blog.
Happy I could help, Jennifer! 🙂
Thank you!
I totally agree– I love the summary format, where you can see all of the swatches and ratings on 1 screen, so you can see how the colors differ, and figure out which ones to buy and skip. Nice job!
They just have not come to Canada yet…. yeah spring collection in drugstore brands arrive late up here. But the 2 shades I want to get are Coral Burst and Blushing Bud.
Honestly, I was surprised to find the Maybelline spring locally – my stores usually get things really late!
This was such a disappointing release. I bought all of them to show on my blog as well and they are nothing like the Vivids or Mattes. Those colors are pigmented and apply to well. I guess I just expect a lot more from Maybelline given my past experience with the brand’s lipsticks. Rose Rush worked out the best for me. I really love the color of Lilac Flush but it takes a good deal of work to maintain a pretty look throughout the day. I’m going to start experimenting with them in lip combos to see if I can make them work out as toppers for other lipsticks.
They feel in line with what you see most brands do for spring – pastels, sheerer formulas, etc. – but they diverge from from the rest of the line!
What a beautifully formatted post, with those bright colors! I know it must have taken extra effort, so thank you for putting in the time, Christine!
Sure thing! 🙂
I love all colors actually, but Coral Burst and Blushing Bud are my faves. I love how clear and organized your posts are.
I like a lot of the colors, too, but wish they performed better! 🙁
Thanks!
Rose Rush and Orchid Ecstasy are my favorites out of this bunch!
Good picks! 🙂
Not yet, but I will definitely be going for Rose Rush and Coral Burst. Love those two in particular. I really wish that Hibiscus Pop had performed better because it just looks like such a lovely spring shade, what a bummer. I’ll check out it’s dupes though.
My favorite is actually Rose Rush (and I don’t even like reds!). It just has the prettiest finish.
Won’t be getting any of these.
I love every single one of these but I’m Project Panning all of my makeup and there’s no room on my vanity for these :/
I almost bought Coral Burst. Looking at the lip swatches up above, I expected Coral Burst to look like the Rose Rush lips, and vice versa.
Coral Burst is pretty and I might pick that one up. I’m thinking it is pink enough for my cool skin tone to work out ok. I like Rose but I think it’s too warm for me.
I picked up Coral Burst, Rose Rush, and Blushing Bud. Rose Rush is my favorite, its a little orange, a little pink, and a lot coral, but it tends to change how it looks depending on the angle or how the light hits it! Totally unique to my stash. I love Coral Burst, but it’s very similar to a shade I already have in my stash (MAC lady at play if anyone else has the same one). I think Blushing Bud is a pretty everyday shade but nothing showstopping – I’m curious why you chose that as most unique, Christine? I went back and read the review and couldn’t see how you came to making that one your most unique. Just wondering!
Like another commenter, I like Coral Burst, Rose Rush & Orchid Ecstasy. I haven’t noticed these in the stores, but I haven’t had time or the inclination to do any browsing this past month. Is this a liquid lipstick like Melted or OCC Lip Tar? I was glad to read that it had a vanilla scent so maybe it doesn’t have the dreaded drying peppermint oil in it if it is a liquid.
I am not really a fan of Maybelline’s lipsticks as they don’t generally wear well on me. Many of them are too pink based and turn pink on me (Yuck!).
I kinda regret getting Lilac Flush because of its poor sheer formula even though the color is so unique. Orchid Ecstasy made up for it, as I hope Coral Burst will. It looks so lovely.
Though didnt liked most of the shades from the collection and the formula wasnt upto expectations but Color burst is a beautiful shade.. <3.. loved it!! 🙂
It’s definitely disappointing that these aren’t as great as the Vivids or Mattes– but I still like Coral Burst, Rose Rush, Blushing Bud and Power Peony.
I picked up Rose Rush and Blushing Bud. Both are lovely. Blushing Bud is something of a brighter version my natural lip color, and if my lips are feeling particularly colorless. Blushing Bud adds some life. I’m definitely going back for Coral Burst, and I’m loving this trio for spring.
Even if the pastels had better formulas, I’m not quite bold enough to wear them, though I’m considering Peach Poppy, and maybe Hibiscus Pop or an almost-dupe.
This collection plus the $5 CVS Extrabucks deal that’s been going on for weeks has had me buying so many Maybellines. I have almost the entire Vivid line at this point, and I’m going back for more. The smell used to really bother me, but right now I’m over it.
I’m glad you mentioned the perfume-y taste. I couldn’t deal with it, made my stomach turn. I thought I had gotten a bad one. I have a Color Sensational from a few months ago that didn’t smell. Hope they don’t continue with this taste, or no more for me.
I can’t wait to try Blushing Bud. It looks so soft and pretty
Power peony is calling me!
I can’t wear orange. I can wear peach and sometimes coral but orange is out. The name “Rose Rush” is weird. It’s not red, it’s not rose, it’s ORANGE.The coral seems the nicest to me.
