Well, I understand if you have no eyebrows, or if you’re really blonde so no one can see them, or if you’re older and they’re thinning out because of age, but for dark haired girls to first pluck the life out of their eyebrows, and then drawing them back on… I don’t understand it. I’m lucky, people envy my eyebrows, they’re full but not bushy. I like them, they give me a younger look.

karenn Avatar

I have no problem with those drawn-on eyebrows as I understand the importance of it. but I feel girls should be careful about the color of their eyebrows pencil. thats strange to see a black hair girl with a red-brown or purple tone eyebrows. and I like natural eyebrows, at least, a good drawn-on eyebrows should look as natural as possible. please, don’t try those sky-high or super-surprised eyebrows if you have to shave your whole eyebrows first.

Christine B Avatar

Thumbs down. Sorry to any girls who do it. I understand if they burned off and are never coming back (like one of my aunts who draws them on), they’re too light, too thin, etc. But I just really don’t get it if you have eyebrows, pluck/wax them off and then draw them back on. They look so unnatural, weird, and obvious to me. Like a bad movie villain or aging socialite stereotype. I prefer eyebrows to be well-groomed but natural looking.

abi Avatar

If you just shave them off and than draw them back on than I agree its very creepy and unattractive looking and some people reeeally overdo it.

claudine Avatar

i have drawn on eybrows because my natural ones are blonde not full and make me look tired because of their natural shape lol
well i try not to use a pencil that is to dark sometimes they look great and when i have a bad day they look weird haha

Jeni Avatar

I color in my eyebrows simply because they are too thin and scarce I totally wish I didnt have to though I use a very dark brown almost black and to be honest people dont even notice until I point it out! I envy those that dont have to but I for one do. I totally agree that people that just shave off their brows and draw thm in is a bit creepy for me and being a brunette with red eyebrows is a no-no!

Michelle Avatar

I have to draw mine. 🙁

Or at least I HAVE to draw the left one, so I make sure to use the same stuff on the right so as to match. See, I had two eyebrow piercings once upon a time that left scars, so the brow started growing in differently AROUND the scar tissue; I had to pluck the hair or else I’d just have one eyebrow that was much lower than the other. With a combination of light pencil strokes and lighter powder, though, it doesn’t look bad.

Jennifer Avatar

I’m not a fan of drawn on brows, because they look very fake. It’s better to fill in brows with powder or something if you have sparse or light brows – don’t draw on an unnatural black line! Obviously, if for some reason you don’t have eyebrows, yeah, I can understand it, but… do try to make it look natural!

Tammy M Avatar

My eyebrows are pretty sparse…always have been, so I use a powder to fill them in. But people tell me I have nice eyebrows and then I point out that I have to fill them in, so I guess I am doing it correctly! I am Asian so, sparse eybrows and lashes!!!

Ashlee Avatar

I have drawn on my brows before when I was trying to get my brows to grow back. But if people DON’T have brows I understand, but it kinda bugs me when people shave there brows off and drawn them on. And you can tell its fake eww, and if they don’t know what they are doing that could break a look. I’ve seen people use liner to draw them on and I’m not a fan off it. But if you can draw them on with powder and make them look ‘natural’ then kudos to you!

china blue Avatar

If the brows in question have to be filled in with powder or gently pencilled in out of necessity, then fine. Scrawling the Maccy D arches over your eyes, shaving off your brows and redrawing them just under your forehead, or extending the brows to the temples are NOT. ACCEPTABLE.

Ugh. So many crimes against eyebrows, so little time!
🙂

Chica Avatar

I fill mine in a little bit with powder to neaten them up but proper drawn on eyebrows scare me! Especially if they are higher up than they should be :o/

Courtney Avatar

HAHAHA i love sharpie eyebrows. that’s what we call them up here, alot of hispanic women around here do that and it always looks horrendous, IMO. it’s one thing to shade them, or use pencil to fill in, but it’s another to totally draw them on!!! and when you do it heavily enough, it really does look like sharpie.

all they need is some brown lipliner with clear gloss on top to complete the look. *sigh*

Ummilkhair Avatar

I don’t have a problem with drawn on brows, if that’s what other people like, then that’s their preference. Personally I fill mine in (sometimes), add a little length on the end and that’s all.

DaniMae Avatar

My eyebrows are sparse as well and I JUST learned about shaping and filling like last year. I don’t particularly DRAW them, but I use udpp as a base and then to strokes to go with the natural shape of my brow, then I fill. I think it works well because it doesn’t look extremely unnatural.

As for other people, whatever floats your boat. Contrary to other people’s opinions, I think that the shave off – draw on thing works for some people. Like the girls who go for the “suicide girl” look, or the girls with the goth style. Punk rock girls too! There’s a girl on Spektra who draws on her brows, and yes it looks unnatural, but it looks cool and fitting all the same.

Lou Avatar

I’m blonde so my eyebrows are light, although luckily still are visible and I’m quite happy with them, I just fill them with a light powder on occasion. As for the whole “shave them off and draw them on” when you don’t need to, not a fan! I knew a girl back in the day in one of my high school classes who would shave her brows off and drew a harsh black line in place (she was blonde), along with bright orange cakey foundation that stopped in a clean line at the jaw. She’s etched in my memory for that reason. There ARE some women out there who work it, but its only when they don’t make it look harsh and unnatural.

Tricho Avatar

I actually pull my brows out, i have a condition called Trichotillomania. It’s left my brows TOTALLY sparse and non existent and they used to be so full. I have had mine actually tattooed on now. They are “drawn on” but they look natural and I get compliments which i’m really happy about. I would obviously rather have the real thing but it’s just the way things have panned out….rock what you have naturally I say!! One day I may have a hair to my name!

MEGAN FITZGIBBONS Avatar

HEY, I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM PRETTY MUCH N WHAT DID U MEAN U GOT THEM TATTOED? LIKE I HEARD WHERE THEY HAVE TO BE TATTOED ON BUT CHANGED LIKE EVERY WEEK… I JUST WANT LIKE THEM TATTOED PERMENANTLY HOW DID U GET THAT DONE LET ME KNOW PLEASE.. MY EMAIL IS MFITZ1215@YAHOO.COM THNX!

Jennifer Avatar

I think it’s okay, but not for me. I’m horrible about my brows anyway. I don’t have the money to get them waxed anymore, and I really, really hate tweezing, so they remain out of control most of the time. I just use some wax to tame them…

Kimberly Avatar

Due to the fact that I barely have any, I have to draw– well stencil mine on. Otherwise, it looks like I don’t have anyway… =(

Trisha Avatar

I used to know some girls who would shave off their perfectly good eyebrows and then draw them on. That didn’t look right at all.

But people who are really fair or red-headed, who have no eyebrows, SHOULD do something about it. But maybe eyebrow powder rather than liner.

kimberly Avatar

i am one of those lucky people who do not have much brows. i was drawing them on every dayand it got way old. about 5 or 6 years ago i had them tatooed and love it.

i absolutly hate when girls have serious black lines….like “sharpie brows” … that drives me crazy

Sandy Avatar

I’m not a big fan. I definitely don’t want them on me as I love my eyebrows. I also very rarely see someone who looks good with drawn on eyebrows. Yeah, so I’m not a fan at all 🙂

MariahGem Avatar

Honestly, I can’t stand it! I have NEVER seen anyone make it look good, and it’s just so fake looking. I know there was a section on it in the Kevyn Aucoin book, and he’s a pro and all… but even then… it’s just not an attractive look.

Winnie Avatar

Well, personally I don’t go for drawn on eyebrows because luckily I didn’t overpluck like crazy as a teenager. When I remember, I do fill them in though because eyebrows really do finish off a look.

However drawn on eyebrows are sometimes the look people go for, like that retro pin up girl look which I could never do but I totally love the look. It does depend on how they do it though, some ladies I’ve seen just draw on the thinnest lines ever and they look hideous!

Carrie Avatar

I think it can look good if you have nice smooth skin and don’t make the eyebrows the focus of your face. But, it seems hard to do well, so most of the time, I think, eh…not good… but sometimes, I like it.

lala Avatar

yeah! if its done right then its ok :)…I like the fact that I don’t need to have my eyebrows filled in …because it looks pretty when I’m doing a natural look…and amazing when its filled when I have eye make-up on 🙂

Eva Avatar

I have sparse eyebrows and I use a hard pencil to carefully fill them in. I try not to overpower their natural shape, I just wnat them to look a little fuller.
I don´t understand anyone with full eyebrows to shave them off and then draw them back on…but if you have to do it, make it at least look natural. Not too low on your brow, but not half way on your forehead as well and not those fake, high-arched ones either…
But hey, that´s just me. :o)

claudia m. Avatar

Filled in? Great, really helps out some (mostly fair skinned/haired gals) Drawn on? nope. I think the only time I notice them are when they’re the “sharpie eyebrows”. My fave gossip blogger Michael K from DListed.com has a weird obsession w/ them and posts freaking hilarious pix on the site, totally worth the look!!!

Can Avatar

thank god i stopped drawing in my brows cuz i eventually realized how unattractive they looked on my face haha. now i fill them in with MAC Coquette e/s so they look very natural. one of my friends didn’t even kno i fill them in. my brows are naturally bushy so i pluck them, but it’s so hard to make them even so that’s why i still have to fill them in a little, esp the tails.

Tink Avatar

I am not into the drawn on look. I was into really standout brows for a while but now I softly fill them in.

I wouldn’t say it is something I like to see on other people but I have seen a few people that can pull it off.

Bianca Avatar

I agree with the comment above (Estela), fill them in with a little powder or use the wonderful MAC Brow set. But the ones that are drawn in, like a Marcel Merceou type…UUGGHH!!! They scare me and I’m puzzled as to if these women really look at themselves in the mirror and say “YEAH!! So natural, so good looking the whole surprised or angry look on me!!” I just don’t get it!!

Sharonda Avatar

Drawn on eyebrows that are completely drawn on, nooooo way.I fill them in because I have medium-slightly full eyebrows.

Pia Avatar

I’ll say it takes loads of courage and mastery to draw on your brows. I couldn’t even copy the same brows I had on the previous day and mine are just filled in with dark shadows. If the gals think that the draw on brows look good on them, then kudos to them!

Stephanie D Avatar

I “draw” my brows in, eventhough the whole eye makeup look I do is dramatic, I still do my brows natural but strong. I always get compliments on them. I use the Smashbox Brow Tech. It is the best brow product I’ve used. One side is powder and one side is a wax. You can go totally natural with it or really dramatic.

Amanda Avatar

AHHHH!!!!! They are scary!!!!!! I’d rather have a unibrow than sharpe brows!! Its one thing to fill in your current eyebrows then to shave them off and paint them on…. disgusting.

Teresa Avatar

I think only a very small amount of people can do this and make it look hot! They are out there, I am not one of them. I have a strong opinion regarding filling in your eyebrows and making them even and forming to the face. It is actually a pet peeve of mine to see someone with beautiful makeup application and then they forget their eyebrows!
But must agree to wax off,and then paint back on, don’t get it.

Well, I think all of us may be guilty of augmenting our brows a bit. I only hate the look of someone who’s OBVIOUSLY removed their brows completely, then drawn them on; or the “Sharpie” look, or what a friend and I call the “MAC makeup artist look” ( don’t kill me, y’all!), Which is a severely squared off head, the arch at a near 90 degree angle, and basically just a severe looking unnatural brow, period. Then there’s the brow so thin that it looks like it has been drawn on with a fine tipped calligraphy pen. Then there’s the stark black, over filled- in brow Basically my beef is just with unnatural looking brows. There are so many brow shapes to choose from, and options to fill them in and/or shape them nicely, that there’s really no good excuse for a gaudy, obviously drawn on brow.

Oh Christine, what a great topic! Earlier today, I experimented with an at home eyebrow waxing kit that went completely wrong!!! 🙁 My right eyebrow is botched up! So, until the hair grows back in, I’ll be drawing on the right eyebrow and pencil in the left to make sure they match. Oy, I’ll never do that again! I’ll leave my eyebrows to my salon expert next time LOL! 🙂

Allie Avatar

I really like drawn on eyebrows when they’re done well. Personally, I dye my hair jet black and my natural hair color is dark blonde…so I fill them in in order to match. I also like really thin, archy brows and the look it gives. I think its interesting how eyebrows can really change your face/look you’re going for. As long as it doesn’t look shitty(like a shakey line)I’m all for it!

Emily Avatar

Not a fan – this girl I went to high school with botched her eyebrows early on and always had to draw them on and once we graduated, she got them tattooed on. The shape looks a lot better except that she has to keep powder on them all the time or else they get shiny. :/ gross. I pencil in the outer third of mine because they basically end there anyway, but I use a brown shadow that matches the color so it’s not too artificial looking. And of course there are exceptions, like if you have no eyebrows at all, pencil eyebrows are better than none!

Feona Paraiso Avatar

I think that natural eyebrows are the way to go. Sure, it’s okay with couture or if you have light hair, but I don’t like it if it’s a young, dark haired woman, and it doesn’t seem practical really. I mean, wax your whole eyebrows off and then pencil them in with a pencil that doesn’t match your natural hair color. XD

cloudburst Avatar

I don’t mind as long as the colour and shape have some semblance to nature. I frequently powder mine in because the ends are pretty sparse.

Zsofi Avatar

i think they have gone out of fashion.
nowadays every girl/woman who is considered as beautiful has natural eyebrows.
i have only seen one girl in my whole life who had tattoed eyebrows and really looked good with them . all the others i have seen were not really nice.
but this is only my opinion 🙂

Zephyr Avatar

I have yet to see drawn on eyebrows that looked anything but horrible.
If you have super light eyebrows, missing hair, etc…I can see using some gentle makeup to reinforce the shading of an eyebrow.

But ‘drawn on’ eyebrows? Nooo. Huge Mistake 100%. They look horrid at best, laughable at worst.

Wednesday Avatar

I draw my eyebrows on and I see nothing wrong with them. I don’t really care what other people think though, they’re not me.
[/shrugs]

Whatever.

my wife completeley plucked hers since 6th grde and redrew them in. i would hve liked a little more ntral look but it was kind of her thing… when she died her mom made sure and they gave an extra excepeptnce to let her draw them in,,, she loved it and she couldnt grow them back even if/when she tried cuz she plucked them for sooooo long i think she is beutiful even if they where done in magic marker!!!
