Oh shoot! Im trying to remember, umm… I remember now! It was Liplucious ( I think thats how you spelled it, but it the lipgloss brand that BBW’s sells) Caramel Latte Lip Gloss. The lipgloss smelled really bad and had this scent that gave me a headache. I think the lipgloss was a year old.
same here christine! although i did salvage an estee lauder lipstick by making it a less crayonny lip balm 😛
A bunch of velvet eyeshadows from The She Space/About Face, because I can’t stand them. Sheer, washed out crap.
I poured a few bottles of body lotion down the sink recently. Totally wasteful but none of my friends wanted them and I wasn’t going to use them either.
Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara as I used it all up 🙂
Dried up mascaras. Must be disciplined and not open 4 of them at the same time!
i agreed 100%. me too i tried my best to be discipline and not to exceed 4 at one time.
I threw away Revlon’s Double Twist Mascara.
It was horrible! LOL
I totally agree…i gave it a chance the first time i used it…but after the next time you pull the wand out of the tube…its like clumpy globby city!!!
I don’t really throw things away. If its just a bad shade, I see if i have any friends who it will match better. I also may try making it into other things. Old lipsticks, or ones with a nasty flavor, I make chapstick with, using them for tint. Eyeshadows NEVER get thrown away.
OK. I take that back. THe last time I threw high end makeup away, I was getting rid of my handmedowns-all my drug store makeup, and miscellaneous colors from high end lines given to me by my grandmother-the colors and textures didn’t suit me at ALL. Her skin tone had different undertones than mine, adn the textures were chalky adn difficult to blend. Maybe thats good when avoiding shimmers adn wrinkle accenting things, but they just didn’t work at all on me! but i still feel bad for throwing them out.
fake tan that expired in 2006… obviously, i didn’t really love it… ;o)
Some gross Sally Hansen lip plumper. I tried to make it work, but it was such poor quality 😐 so thick and it burned without actually plumping
lol i seldom throw beauty products away, except when they are expired. the other times if they are makeup products, i will ask my friends if they want them (sometimes these are brand new, sometimes they’re slightly used). I usually give a lot to my friends 😀
I have few expired mascaras, some blushes which I hate, and old lipsticks… all ready to be throws away 🙂
Old Stila nail polish and Nars blush in Lovejoy at the same time. They were cluttering up my cabinet.
barry m dazzle dust in cherry red, which stains your eyelids and brushes >:( it’s a shame.
some showergel that I hated
CG Exact Lash Mascara. It was 3 months old so it was time to toss it out.
Sephora eye khol pencil..orrible product!! I have also some Sephora Electro liners, them colours are beautiful but quality is questionable…I think throw away them very soon! 🙂
I agree on those, no color payoff and not even easy to apply!
Mac Lipgelée in “Moonstone”. It was finished and the empty packaging went right into my B2M little bag.
I threw away a sample of Make Up Forever HD Foundation – looked good in Sephora but at home was a different story 🙁 I could tell I had foundation on and it looked cakey on me.
Eeek, you should have returned it!
it was a sample, not the actual product.
MUFE HD foundation is amazing.. I love it, you just really have to apply it sparingly and it works waaaay better with a primer cause it’s so thick!
Try it out again 😉
I recently through away my Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse foundation. I’ve had it for a very longtime and I hated it. It always turns me into an oilslick! I finally gave up and threw it away.
Awww… recently, i threw away some elizabeth arden lipstick, which i got them some years back and i doubt they would be in usable condition.. sounds disgusting to store them with my good conditioned ones.
Revlon lash jewels from thier limited edition 4 yrs ago. Horrible ugly messy!
Just yesterday I threw away a sample size Lancome (liquid) foundation, because I took it with me on holiday and it made me break out horribly and it’s not quite the right shade for me anyway (although that’s the smaller problem). My face got so greasy by using it, yuck! I also gave my sister a bunch of make up I didn’t use anymore or had duplicates of.
Some of my expired maybelline mascaras.
An E.L.F. concealer from there $1 line. It was terrible!
The elf concealer is gross. They sell elf in a chain of grocery stores where I live, and all the concealers on display, brand new in the packaging, are black with mold and usually separating. I had bought one at first but tossed it quickly.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish/Natural – My skin is on the dry side, and this didn’t just matte out my skin, it sucked the moisture out and made my face look crepey and bizarre. I just included it in a Back to MAC while it was stil full!
Same here! I hated MSF Natural, made my face dry and older than it is, accentuated pores and fine lines. Looked powdery too. And my skin isn’t even bad to begin with! Want an excellent excellent powder? Maybelline Dream Matte Powder is my HG!! It’s sheer coverage but the best thing to set your foundation or TM with, very finely milled.
Diorshow Blackout mascara
Clinique’s anti-blemish solution concealer. It looked fine in the tube, and it had a really nice pigmentation, but it went on soo dry and flaked all over the place, so it made my pimples even more visible. I gave it to a friend, who wasn’t so pleased with it either :p
I threw away a Maybelline Cooling Effects Shadow/Liner (as much as it pained me to do it… it’s discontinued in Canada) because the stick of product fell out of the pencil!
a couple months ago I threw away two Channel Glossmiers , I hadn’t used in years… And it was hard to do …lol…Even if they smelled gross..But I did it anyway.
The moral of this story: Don’t be afraid to use your make up products…Even if you really like them…Because otherwise they’ll just go bad and you would have wasted whatever money you spent on them. You will find something else later that you love tons, so just keep on using it, till you use it up. 🙂
This is a great moral to the story: I am always “saving” products and years later still haven’t used much of them…New Year Resolution: use the “new stuff”! LOL!
hey gal,
sounds like a inspiring resolution! I’m adopting it.
I just threw out Sephora Silicone Face Primer. I had it lying around for the few years. I was hoping to salvage it, but it just seems to be taking up space. After a few uses, I learned that it broke me out.
I’m about to throw out some Neutrogena Oil Free lotion. I was trying to save money by buying it but deep down inside I really wanted the Clinique Moisture Surge. I said let me not be so “bougie” and give it a try. Well it sucked, it still broke me out and is very shiny for something that is supposed to be oil-free
quite a few mascaras. looks like i’m going to have to pick up a few new ones!
i threw away a rimmel lipstick because i hated the gross cherry cough syrup smell it gave off and the texture was too thin. i hate throwing things away but i knew i couldn’t return it and i knew i would never use it.
Old Mascara that smelled bad. I don’t know why I kept it in my collection still, hahaha
I threw away an empty tube of H20 makeup remover. It’s a love hate relationship with that product. I love how you just add water and massage it in and it’s so fast. It is oil free which I like but what comes with that is that it doesn’t always do the best job of getting a heavy smoky eye off.
Revlon Colorstay eyeliner this morning. No color showed up when I tried to use it so I tossed it. It was several years old.
Hey Christine
I know this is a bit off topic, but I have to ask your opinion.
I am looking for a color similar to the one of Scarlett O’ Hara in the photos below. I was thinking of sticking to as matte of a finish as possible or any other that isn’t super shiny. I was hoping to stick to MAC or NARS or I guess any brand that has a color that comes close to this.
Thanks!
Jen

The closest MAC would probably be So Chaud, but I think it might be too bright/intense. From NARS, maybe Forbidden Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.
Ok thanks!
Philosophy Cinnamon Buns lipshine, it smelled awful, i think it might have gone bad
I threw away some sephora-brand lip & eye pencils that were several years old. I also got rid of several clinique “free gift” items that were partially used…I don’t even want to think how old some of that stuff was!
I will be throwing out old Dior and UD mascaras today.
cargo southbeach lipgloss quad. it smelled soo bad
Old LM foundation that forgot to come to England with me … it’s separating.
i threw away an empty nivea chapstick
I tend to not throw makeup away unless it’s reeeally cheap stuff that I think is crap, but more than likely I won’t waste my money on that stuff in the first place. I think the last thing I threw away was an empty bottle of Jergens Ultra Healing lotion.
I agree. If it’s cheap I can throw it away without feeling guilty, but with high end products I find it difficult to throw them away if they aren’t empty.
I threw away Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector (Serum) because I finish the bottle and I threw away a couple of old mascaras as well.
Mascara that smelled funny.
My Dubonnnet lipstick – same story it was waxy smelt funny.
An old NARS powder compact – the powder was still fine (though probably too pale for me now) but the outside of the compact had become all sticky and gross just sitting in my makeup drawer, very weird. I wish I could salvage it because that stuff is expensive. Ugh.
A Rimmel powder kohl liner just because I didn’t like it.
My Fresh Supernova mascara. Used it til the last drop!
An old drug store cream eyeliner quad that I’d been using over my UDPP as part of my priming step. I’ve had it for years, and I was getting grossed out and how long I’ve kept it, so I replaced it with a brown quad that I might start wearing on its own on my “lazy makeup” days! Plus it’s the only brand of cream shadow I’ve tried that doesn’t crease over my primer.
All of my HIP gel liners. As much as I love gel liners, those babies dry out too fast. That is the only brand of gel or cream liners I have the problem with, but they all went in the trash last week.
An YSL lipgloss….. I hated the color…. it’s to bright for me.
Some random lipsticks that had been sitting in the back of my drawer for who knows how long.
They also smelled like crayon…
some old avon eyeshadows and a blush i had for a long time! I just ordered new ones 🙂
mascara (high-end) and eyeliners (drug store), i might also have to throw away my benefit deluxe samples from sephora because that brand irritates my skin soooo much. I can never use anything from that brand.
Revlon Color Stay Foundation that the color separated and went funky on. I must have bought it when they had a buy 1/get 1 and didn’t put it in my usual place and it must have been there WAY too long.
I also purged some lipsticks that I really wasn’t crazy about and need to toss some mascaras that are old also. After reading other posts, I decided I need to get busy on that also.
Maybeline liquid foundation that made me break out.
Hope in a Jar by Philosophy…this has got to be the worst smelling moisturizer that I have tried/
thats true , but on the other hand IT REALLY WORKS! i just ran out of it so, i guess thats what i recently thru away!.
i just was rumaging thru my old bag of makeup that i dont use anymore and i came across a really old e.s from revlon that had mold on it ! GROSS! i musta had it for like 6 years or so, but what i think happened is it might have gotten damp and absorbed some moisture in the bag,- bc i used to keep my makeup n the bathroom, NOW I DONT, but still – just a precaution to everyone else out their!
Some kind of highlighter from Wet n Wild. Because the one I had was discontinued (Blushing? idk) I didn’t want to throw it out at first, but because it was pretty much empty and honestly the product wasn’t great (sticky, hard to blend) I finally tossed it out.
Smashbox mascara that I should have tossed sooner..
Besides mascara and expired things, I never throw anything away. I swap/sell them on MUA or some place.
Mascara! They dry up too fast. Since they last such a short while (drying up and bacteria growth) it’s be nice if you cold buy mascaras that contained less products (for a lesser price, ofc)
My sally hansen ‘hard as nails’. It was getting down to the bottom and the product had gotten goopy and stringy–time for it to go!
