New Year's Eve Makeup: Golden Berry
New Year’s Eve Makeup: Golden Berry
I wanted something simple but still festive for New Year’s Eve, so I went with a modified version of this look, just to make it a little softer. I thought I’d also try using Cuddle shadestick under a lot of frost-finish shadows while I was at it, too, so I managed to squeeze that into the look! I was already running late, and the boyfriend had that look on his face (you know, the one that says “If you spend more than fifteen minutes on your makeup, I’m leaving without you!“), so I didn’t want to experiment too much!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Cuddle Shadestick (soft gold base), MAC Goldmine Eyeshadow (gold), MAC Gleam Eyeshadow (golden peach), MAC Cranberry Eyeshadow (berry), MAC Fig. 1 Eyeshadow (eggplant), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter),
Urban Decay El Dorado 24/7 Liner (gold), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black) - Cheeks: Benefit Sugarbomb Powder (peachy-pink)
- Lips: Guerlain Gems Rouge G Lipstick (shimmery coral), Chanel Maline Glossimer (golden bronze)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Cuddle = Baselight
For eyes, start by applying Cuddle shadestick as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249, then even out with the 217. Using the 239, apply Goldmine eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Gleam eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Cranberry eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Next, define the crease by applying Fig. 1 eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Gleam eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying El Dorado Liner on the lower lash line, and then sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 129.
For lips, apply Gems lipstick first, and then layer Maline glossimer for a pretty pinky-coral lip look.
I love this look Christine, quite colorful yet not dramatic ! Suits you perfectly !
Yay! Exactly what I was going for. Thanks, Claudia!
Such a gorgeous look! Love it! 🙂
Thank ya, Anita!
You continue to amaze me with the makeup looks and lip combos! I love the lip combinations you create! (I’m also loving that you’ve been posting more looks lately.) 🙂
Thanks a lot, Maggie! Haha, I love me some lip combinations. It’s so hard for me to do anything twice, too.
I’m really, really trying to make the effort to do so 🙂
I love that look! You look gorgeous. Hope you had a great time.
Thanks, Anja! I did, it was a very nice, low-key NYE spent with my boyfriend and his family 🙂 Did you have a good time?
I had a look very similar to this! Except your is so much better but I thought mine was decent for me =)
Awesome! 🙂 I bet yours was lovely, AlyxVeee!!
Thank you!
This is awesome Christine. You got me going out buying mac shadows like crazy. I’ll probably end up with all of them!
LOL! At least you’ll have enough eyeshadow to keep you warm forever 😀
So beautiful! I saw so many looks leading up to Christmas and New Year – all with loads of glitter, which I love, but it’s so nice to see something different, warm and fresh. It’s just perfect; and I’m falling in love with Benefit’s Sugarbomb more and more each second. 🙂
Thanks a lot, Sarah M! I am totally head over heels in love with Benefit Sugarbomb. Ahh, love it so!
Gorgeous! i love it 🙂
Thanks, Jessica 😀
So pretty! Haha a bit late though… It’s okay! Totally doubles as a fresh spring look! I love it. I was looking at one of your posts with a side by side of you one year ago and now, and I was wondering if you would ever consider cutting your hair short again?
Oh, this is my actual makeup for New Year’s Eve 🙂
I doubt it, because I really, really didn’t like it when it was short. I don’t have the time/energy/desire to style it everyday, and unless you style it, it looks pretty rubbish!
super gorgeous! i can’t wait to try it out 🙂
Thanks, Samantha 😀
v pretty! love how the copper in the centre pops out in some pics…also really nice lip combo!
Thanks a lot, Aradhana!
Hi Christine, really love your lips in this look. Is there a cheaper dupe for the combo?
I haven’t found one yet 🙁
So pretty!
i swatched sugarbomb the other day at sephora, and it was instant love! unfortunatly, i had spent my money already on my clinique moisturizer, but im thinking of picking it up on my next trip to the mall (:
I hope you’re able to get it next time, Ezzie!
Thank you!
Wow, Christine – this looks beautiful! I would never have thought of a golden-ish liner but may have to get my hands on some now!
Thanks a lot, Evie! Ohh, I LOVE me some gold eyeliner!
Ohhh Guerlain Gems lipstick is so gorgeous.
It is loveee! I bought a backup, I couldn’t resist!
Very pretty!
Thanks a lot, Kate B!
I absolutely LOVED the original look, and I feel the same way about this one! Honestly; this colour combination is brilliant perfection. I can’t believe you managed to do all this in fifteen minutes!
Hope you had a great NYE 🙂
Thanks so much, Rae! 🙂 I’m all about gold + berries, but I’m not surprised by that at all, haha.
Hope your NYE was amazinggg!
what foundation are you using ? your skin looks so glowy here 🙂
Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer 🙂 I’m so lazyyy and tinted moisturizer is amazing for those quick days.
christine, i think that TM is your HG. it looks nicer than the guerlain fdtn (although that looks great on you too).
It might also be that I’m just having a few weeks of good/better skin than my usual, lol 😉 Thank you!
This is probably one of my favourite looks that you’ve ever done 🙂 lately I’ve been obsessed with looks that use Cranberry
Really? That’s so great 🙂 Thank you, J!
you look so glowy and gorgeous. and i’m jealous of your blending skills!
Thanks a lot, Yvette 🙂
the guerlain lipstick looks gorgeous on you!
Thanks, Michelle!
OMG OMG OMG OMG! This look is amazing! I LOVE IT! your eyes, the lips and cheeks… WOW! i need to buy that eyeshadows!Today i bought SHIMMERMOSS and MINT (eyeliner) are cool!
Also i tested some The body shop stuff, is pretty nice, but, i’d love to read reviews too hehehe
Aww, thanks so much, Adriana!! 🙂
Shimmermoss is great!
Another very nice EOTD! For my New Year’s day dinner, I also did a simple look but without lining my upper lash line. Just lined my lower lash line. and I thought it’s kinda funny. Normally, I would line my upper lash line and sometimes, not lining the lower lash line. Not the opposite. But somehow, lining only the lower lash line looked OK too, for me, of course. And now I see you did similar….the gold UD eyeliner is very pretty! The other gold eyeliner you’d used which I like is the Loreal HiP Chrome one.
Thanks a lot, Vonvon! I’m glad you gave the lower lash liner a shot (sans the upper lash liner) – and happy to hear it wasn’t bad 🙂
i’ve never thought of using gold with berry, thanks for the inspiration! i adore cranberry, such a beautiful shade.
My pleasure, Rowan 😀
this look is festive yet not too dramatic like what claudia says..
Thanks, Sizbelle!
You look so pretty Christine! How long did it take to do your eyes? You blend all the shadows so perfectly all the time in your looks. It looks so professional. I like the colors, it reminds of me summer for some reason 🙂
Thanks a lot, Nicci! Probably about ten minutes or so 🙂 I’ve done the gold/berry look often enough that it doesn’t take too much thought for placement and what colors to use, so that saves a ton of time.
Very pretty look!
Thanks, Karen!
I love this look . Its so fresh and the lip combination looks divine on you ~!
Thanks, Sarah!
OMG Chris I LOVE This Look!! Girl, What are you gonna do when you run out of Femme Fi ?? I hope u have back ups.
Thank you! 🙂 LOL, move onto the next best highlighter I find!
I love the idea of a golden berry look. Following your directions, I was able to create something very similar using the products at hand: Nars eyeshadow duo in Brazil, Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Honey, and Nars Orgasm on my cheeks. Thanks!
Sounds like an awesome recreation, Chelsea 🙂
This is such a beautiful look! I really love golds and Cranberry on you. I was lucky enough to score MAC’s Cult of Cherry quad recently so I’ll be sure to try something similar soon! 😀
Thanks so much, Catherine! 🙂 I love me some gold, haha.
Oh, love this!
Thanks, Suzanne!
hey christine..love this look..could you recommend any other shades i could use instead of “gleam”…i am trying to keep myself on a budget nowadays so didn’t want to buy another mac..just wondering which one would be the next closest alternatives…would really appreciate it if you could reply back 🙂
Do you have any peachy shades? I’d just use that 🙂
Georgeous combination of colours. I love it!
Thanks, Jessica!
I love this combo. I must tell you it has become one of my favorites to wear now, I even did it to a friend on NYE and she loved it too.
Yayy!! It’s one of my favorites, too. It’s just one of those looks that’s a go-to for me!
I think that the look is very nice in a summer time!!
Thanks, Elisa!
