Not always, I have stuff in my collection that I’ve spent lots of money on and I have stuff that I’ve gotten from a drug store that’s just as good if not better than some pricier stuff. There’s also stuff out there that I will not skimp on (foundation, make up remover, face regimen).
I think it is similar to fashion, not everyone is willing to pay for Gucci, but it doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy fashion if you can’t. With that being said, I do enjoy high end to the extent that it fits my budget.
I think that it can be worth it to go high end for some things (treatments for instance) if they do what they claim to do. Other than that I’ve had some of the best luck of my life with Rimmel eye pencils, and Lakme (Indian brand & very cheap) kohl.
I guess it’s a case of being willing to spend more—when I CAN—on priming the canvas and then the rest sort of falls into place.
For some things, definitely, eye-shadow are often much higher quality with better pigmentation so they last you longer. Often with foundations I get a much better match with high-end than lower end so the colour looks much better on me, but I must say sometimes it does feel like you pay for the brand name, not the quality of the product.
Not for everything. I don’t think buying makeup should make you broke.
Oh yes, definitely. While you can find good products among drugstore brands, I have now mostly given up buying them in favour of high end products, because those are usually so much better (especially Mac, Urban Decay, Dior, Guerlain, Chanel).
For some things, yes. For others, there are much cheaper alternatives. It really depends on the cost vs. the worth.
With makeup, I’m more concerned with quality over quantity. If a product is high quality and it happens to be high-end, I will probably save up and splurge if it’s really an outstanding product!
I think it depends on the situation. Some thing I love and cannot live without, those things I will always buy from the brand if it is high end or not. But sometimes if you love something high end it isn’t worth trying to find a low end sub. I have a friend who love dior mascara but didn’t have the money this time around to get a new one, instead she got a cover girl mascara and hated it. Ended up tossing it out and waisting her money on it. She could spend countless amounts of time and money trying to find a sub, or she could just save to get the one she wants and save all the hassel and money.
The quality of high-end make-up is -in general- of excellent quality, but there are plenty of cheaper alternatives out there that are just as great, if its not in your budget.
Not really unless you like the colors or they are unique and pigmented. I LOVE REVLON! LOL and with a good base I can make it look pigmented too, LOL
But neither do I believe in cheap make up. Those holiday no name kits are terrible.
Yes, buying high-end products are worth it if you are willing to branch out of drugstore products. For me, Im branching out of the low-end proudcts so that I can purchase some high-end skincare products that everyone raves about, especially Philosophy and Clinique.
YES- to eyeshadows, lipglosses, & foundation! NO- to mascaras & lip liners! SOMETIMES- to lipsticks!
Its worth it if you try on the product first and fall in love with it.
I think that there r certain splurges you just have to make or youll regret it! Like Dior skin shimmers and nars lipglasses and guerlain rouge g lipsticks (IMO) but it gets very pricey. Youve gotta b able to tell yourself NO! when ur thinking of purchasing ANOTHER tube of mascara!!!
I really do find myself lusting after more expensive brands though and if they live up to the hype I buy!!!
if you can afford it, then high end is definitely worth it!
everyones face deserves the best!!
I would definitely say that it is worth it. While many people may not, I most certainly can see and feel a huge difference when I use high-end products. It is addictive though so you really have to be careful and pratical in your purchases.
Yes, I think it is worth it if it is in your budget and if the quality is superb and you get find anything that matches it in mid-end or low end makeup. If you love it and you and afford it why the hell not get it? It is good to branch out a bit sometimes.
High end beauty is definitely worth it to me. I am much more satisfied with my high end products than I ever was with drugstore. I think it just comes down to moderation and knowing your stash. You have to ask yourself if you really need another pink lipstick. Christmas has been the best time to buy, for me. I can get great pallettes and gift sets that will last me a long, long time.
Nothing beats quality eyeshadows, that dont crease or fade away right from the start. MAC lover ’til the end. The only comparable drugstore I found are Black Opal and Prestige. But where I’m from I have to hunt for these, while on the other hand I know exactly where the MAC store is.
if your budget allows it and you want to treat yourself, then heck, SPLURGE away. You have to know your own limits (bank accounts included)….
I think it can be sometimes but if u cant afford it,then cheaper brands r just as great sometimes.
Yes and no. Some high-end and low-end items have disappointed me in the past, but many have wowed me over too. High-end is definitely worth a try at some point though if it’s within the makeup budget.
I think if you love the product and can afford it — it is worth it. Some people consider only brands like Dior and Chanel high end — while others might consider MAC and Nars high end. Just depends on your budget and what you like!
It depends. Some drug store things are really actually better quality than high end stuff. Like mascara I always go drugstore because i think the quality is actually better. I don’t need to spend $25 on some Dior mascara that does the exact same thing as Covergirl Lash Blast just to say that I use Dior mascara, especially since you’re going to throw it out in three months. Same with some concealers. I don’t have really bad undereye circles so I use Maybelline Age Rewind concealer which never ever cakes on me unlike all of Mac’s concealers.
I go high end for eyeshadow and foundation though because they really are better quality than drugstore IMO. Along with blush for women of color. I can’t live w/o my NARS blush!
Yes, items like foundations and concealer are worth splurging on because the high end brands have better colours & formulas – plus those are items that if they aren’t perfect they look really “off” on your face. As for colour makeup products I think high end is worth it if the product isn’t easily duped.
I don’t know I pretty much always buy high end now & somehow always make it fit my budget!
My general mantra when it comes to beauty buys is splurge on skincare and save on makeup whenever possible. Spendy makeup looks like crap on bad skin.
Always stay within a reasonable budget.
I typically prefer high-end cosmetics. I have found that whenever I buy drugstore cosmetics, I almost never use them. For me, buying the drugstore brands ends up being a huge waste of money. Despite that, however, I still have a difficult time resisting BOGO or steeply discounted drugstore products…
To me, I doubt I’d buy expensive lipliners and mascaras. I never even wear mascara, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about there, but with lipliner, I don’t really feel like there’s a secret to making a good one. The only way I’d pay more than two bucks for a lipliner is if it were a reverse or colorless lipliner (I’ve never found a lower end version of those).
For skincare, unless something cheap definitely worked the same or better, I would rather go for my 3-step Clinique set. Foundation and concealer are also things I just won’t cheap out on. The rest goes on a case by case basis, but I usually wind up liking pricier glosses, lipsticks, shadows and eyeliners more than their cheaper counterparts. That doesn’t mean I won’t occasionally buy a two dollar shadow palette just to see if I find a gem–I just discovered a 3 dollar baked shadow at Hot Topic that’s just wonderful.
For some items yes, like foundation, pigmented eyeshadows and eyeliner pencils for sure.
Yes HE is worth it if you are referring to MAC, UD, and NARS. I’m not a fan of Chanel and those other super brands that are too costly imo. However, I definitely do not overlook brands like CG, L’Oreal, etc because some of their products I have found to love more than my beloved MACs products.
Some high-end products are worth the money! But a lot of times, you can find good dupes that are (almost) as good and affordable, f.i you can find a lot of affordable MAC brush dupes that are as good!=)
It depends. There are a few things I like to invest in: brushes and foundation.
Besides, price and brand don’t always mean quality. Sometimes I’d rather try something unexpensive because if I don’t like it it’s less money to go to waste.
For the most part, yes.
For some things, definitely. For other things, not so much. I definitely truly believe in my Ole Henriksen Pick Me Up Tonic and Korres masks for skincare, but I also use drugstore spot treatments and I actually mix my own moisturizer out of jojoba oil and olive squalane. These kinds of things are so individual so it’s really about finding the product that works for you whether it’s “high end” or “low end.” I do have to say, I usually start looking mid-high end though.
Some high end stuff can be worth the money. But sometimes it is not worth it.
Depends. I find that my favorite mascara and lipsticks are drugstore items. I usually only splurge on skincare and foundation. But a high-end item is always a nice treat when you can afford it.
I do not think high-end beauty is worth the cost.
I think that there are definitely times when it is but that product needs to be something that fits you (your personal tastes, preference & especially NEEDS). In otherwards if you never wear red lipsticks, feel uncomfortable wearing red lipsticks – don’t go out & buy that $40 lipstick. But if your signature is your fire engine lips like Gwen Stefani – then totally buy that high-end Chanel Dragon.
BUT my beauty philosophy is always – sample, Sample, SAMPLE! Because everyone is SO different, what works for one will not always work for another. So Sample, bellas! Only you will know if its really worth it
It is depending on the product. I have found great lipstick, mascara, eyeliners, and concealers from drug stores that I am in love with. I go high end for my e/s and blush because usually they are more pigmented than most drug store brands. But I do budget when it comes to high end products, it’s so easy to spend too much at Sephora/MAC or any other high end beauty counters.
I think no matter what product you buy it’s always a good idea to research (whether it’s by testing samples, reading reviews, etc), because I think where in some cases high-ends are better (I really think my Shiseido eyelash curler is probably the best thing that I’ve ever bought, and worth invest in), in other cases I do think it’s simply the brand name and the packaging that those products are selling on.
I believe it is worth it, but I agree with Budget Beauty Bombshell – you have to sample the product and if it’s not love at first sight, take some time, if possible, to cool your head and decide if it’s what you want. In my case, I have to do this with MAC collections; when I first see them I want everything, but once I read the reviews or see them in person I usually change my mind. As a make up addict, I love ALL make up and get as much pleasure from a MAC lipstick as from a Revlon lipstick. I agree, though, that foundation is the one product worth splurging on.
