Dior Holiday 2014 Diorific Vernis Nail Enamels Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Dior Golden Shock (001) Diorific Vernis Nail Enamel
Dior Golden Shock (001) Diorific Top Coat ($28.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a clear top coat with gold leaf. It’s certainly fun and festive, but it requires fishing and some maneuvering to get the gold flakes to appear just-so on the nails. The cap on the Diorific polishes makes this a little more difficult, but the degree of difficulty will depend on how large your fingers are. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Dior Mirror (022) Diorific Vernis Nail Enamel ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a pale, white gold with warm undertones and a very fine, metallic shimmer. Alone, it has a more pearly, white gold effect. I tried it layered over Shock (a warm red), and it made the pearl look more orange. It’s semi-sheer average two coats and has a moderately shiny dry down. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Dior Gold Equinoxe (241) Diorific Vernis Nail Enamel ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark gold with hints of brown and fine, gold metallic shimmer. It didn’t apply evenly, and it was only semi-opaque. The consistency of this was thin, and it seemed to dry as I was applying, even though it isn’t a foil finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Dior Shock (762) Diorific Vernis Nail Enamel ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a vibrant, medium red with subtle, warm undertones (almost neutral, I’d say) and a cream finish. It was opaque after two coats, and it dried down to a glossy finish without need for a top coat. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and this was the best-performing shade out of the five. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Dior Smoky (990) Diorific Vernis Nail Enamel ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a deep, dark, blackened purple berry with a cream finish. It was mostly opaque, but it was somewhat streaky (which was a surprise!), possibly due to the more watery formula. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Not too impressed but I really like the layered effect of Dior Golden Shock and Shock Vernis, quite a pretty combination!
They are pretty together! (Shock is so dupable without it!)
The red polish looks nice, but I don’t think it’s anything to congratulate Dior over. Tons of brands do excellent red creams…. It’s a shame about that deep purple! It would’ve been an awesome color for Christmas.
The polishes were SUCH a miss for me!
Easy passes from me. I still have Minuit from last years holiday collection and love it! Thank you for the swatches 🙂 Will you be reviewing any of the new lipstick duos? Those caught my eye the most from this years collection.
I think I bought one lipstick duo, but I’m not 100% sure if I actually went through with that order.
Oh. God those bottles are dreadfully adorable. I would buy one just to put it on my dressing table even though I’ve never spent more than 5 quid on nail polish. I haven’t even worn nail polish this year but so tempted.
They are pretty 🙂
These are very underwhelming. All of them have been done before by other brands, some way too many times to justify the high price tag for these. I normally love the Dior holiday polish releases, and have two from the last two years, but I don’t think I’ll be getting one this year. 🙁
Yes, I remember when they did the Diorific Vernis last holiday or the holiday before – very pretty shades – these fall short for me.
Everything is just so…generic. I feel like I’ve seen these a million times already. And not just by other brands, but by Dior
Yes, there is definitely that feel as well.
Interesting… I, too, bought Dior Smoky, but mine turned out to have a thicker consistency than most of my other Dior polishes, and despite the first coat being streaky, the second one was enough for perfect coverage. I am now thinking of getting Shock as well.
Interesting! Glad that at least it was good on the second coat 🙂
I’m so glad you reviewed these, though I am sad they didn’t perform that well! I really wanted Golden Shock, but I’m curious as to how it looks against Guerlain’s for the holidays.
They’re really about the same, IMO. They’re both just gold flakes in clear top coat!
Is it just me or does Golden Shock look like gold “chips” versus leaf? I’m looking for something that looks as though someone put actual golf leaf, with thin organically shaped pieces, in a top coat. I was hoping Guerlain’s would be like that but I’ll have to see swatches.
I’m picky but given the price, that’s a little okay…right? Haha
You should get whatever it is your heart is after, CeeCee!! 🙂 I think you might want to look more towards gold-shaped glitter rathern than gold leaf, which tends to look flakey.
None of these formulas are stand-outs, but I might pick up a gold shock just to put on my vanity. It’s soooo pretty! I love the packaging on these. Haha, didn’t I just say the other day I don’t buy products for packaging?? 😀
LOL! We all eat our words eventually 😉
Was expecting better ratings. too bad. But Dior definitely deserves a big fat A rating for packaging, so cute.
I’m normally a fan of Dior’s polishes – at least the red was nice!
“Mirror” reminds me of L’Oreal’s Satin Sheets – but the Dior version seems more sheer.
Nice to know! Thank you Lisa 😀
Aww…the bottles are so cute! Dior would win me alone for their adorable designs but those colors are not so…well, not quite appealing enough for me to add another golf ball sized hole into my wallet. So yeah, I think I’ll pass…lol!
I wish they’d been more unique/interesting (and better quality) with their shades!
Not impressed. I really like the packaging of these though!
The packaging has definitely seemed to have caught many readers’ eyes, but not so much the shades!
The bottles are really pretty. The polishes don’t look all that special.
Agreed – prettier packaging here.
Mirror kind of reminds me of a warm version of Chanel’s Atmosphere. I also liked Smokey.
Do you have any of Dior’s polishes, Erin?
In a world where I had unlimited money, I would get Golden Shock just for the adorable bottle and the gold flakes 😉 Otherwise, Shock seems to be the pick of the bunch (although I’m eyeing Butter London Ladybird more at the moment for a warmer red). I wish Smoky was more consistent, as the jellyish finish is cool!
The bottles are cute for sure 🙂
The packaging is just gorgeous. And though I would love the idea of Gold Shock over either the red or the black, $56 for the privilege is a little too much. I love the gold polish too, but my cheapie Revlon gold looks to be a decent dupe.
Which Revlon gold, Allison?
Looks like Dior Shock could pair with Guerlains holiday lipstick Rouge Parade
I could see that!
Dior a Smoky or Tom Ford’s Black Cherry?
Hmmmm…..
Black Cherry applied better for me, but it’s more expensive…
I’ll probably get Mirror, because I think it’s the prettiest and one of these days I want to own one of these adorable bottles!
I like it layered a lot, and if you like a very subtle, pearly nail look, it’s pretty on its own.
It looks really pretty, but I know I could never really pull it off. Too time consuming to put all those layers on and besides, your nails start chipping after a day or so of real life wear.
Aw, bummer 🙁
I feel as if I have all of these, just better performing and in less pretty bottles. It’s such a pity that Dior doesn’t make it all the way these days.
I hope at least one product from the holiday edition will surprise me and make me run to the departmentstore to get it.
Thanks so much for reviewing these!
The first time I remember them doing these bottles, I loved the shades. These were so underwhelming.
I regret not buying one last year. I can’t even remember what they looked like, but I remember wanting one of them,
Thank you for the great review. I had such high hopes for these! I was least interested in the red, the best performing! You saved me a bundle!
No prob, Lisa 🙂
Someday, I will get one of these for the bottle, I swear. But I don’t like any of these shades, so this year will not be that someday.
Here’s hoping next year’s will be more appealing.
Golden Shock looks A LOT like YSL 47 Feuille D’or!!
So good to know! Thank you!
The nail polish bottles are adorable! Though I don’t think I like any of the actual polishes enough to purchase. That’s probably for the best though, lots of other holiday stuff I’m looking forward to!
Phew! Any other holiday nail lacquers you’re eyeing?
Oh, I love those little gold flakes! Even with a little maneuvering. *.*
Have you tried any other gold flake top coats, Rae?
