Guerlain Coque d'Or Perfumed Shimmer Powder Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Coque d’Or Perfumed Shimmer Powder
Guerlain Coque d’Or Perfumed Shimmer Powder ($95.00 for 0.61 oz.) is described as a “silky halo of a golden shimmer.” It’s a fine misting of gold shimmer, just as described. Guerlain says it can be used to “illuminat[e] hair, face, shoulders, and the top of the decollete.” It is a scented powder, which the brand says is a “chypre composition based on bergamot, rose, jasmine, and patchouli.” It’s very subtle when I tried wearing it all-over arms–it’s no substitute for perfume–and I only get a hint of a scent when I have my nose to my skin. It’s warm, sweet, and slightly woody with a little earthiness.
Guerlain’s holiday Shimmer Powders are no doubt a luxury item, and it is most likely going to appeal to collectors. It adds a gorgeous sparkle–that’s finer than glitter but more noticeable than shimmer–to the skin that dances in the light as one moves. I can only imagine that one bottle has many, many uses out of it, as one “spritz” has a fair amount of sparkle (enough for both arms). It’s best applied about six to twelve inches away, and you may want to turn the nozzle, because of the wide, bow-like bottle, the way it arrives means that a lot of the sparkle settles on top of the bottle (instead of on you!). I would also recommend applying a body lotion or moisturizer first, and then spritzing the powder on just before it finishes drying.

Gosh that’s gorgeous! Wouldn’t mind finding that under my Christmas tree!
Would be nice to receive!
Its one of those things that I would love to own but cant bring myself to spend on!!
I totally understand that feeling!
Oh yes, that’s a collector’s item indeed! Beautiful!
Definitely!
Wow. That would look beautiful on a vanity
It would 🙂
Hmm…I’m not too sure about the whole sparkle situation… I think that I would really have to love the perfume to make myself buy it, considering the price. I’d rather get the Meteorite pearls from this edition, I’ve swatched them in person and I’m in love! They feel like velvet!
The Meteorites are nice!
I really like the concept of the product but Guerlain didn’t wow me with the packaging like every other time 🙁
It sure looks interesting, but just not “wow!”
Really! I thought this year’s actually seemed a bit more luxe to me (it’s very heavy). Too bad 🙁
Oh my goodness – for what it is, I probably wouldn’t use it as I’m not big on body shimmer powders. However, the PACKAGING. I love it! It’s so luxe looking.
The gold bow as well as the red atomizer ball reminds me strongly of Hello Kitty. This is definitely going onto my lemming list.
The only ones I use are Guerlain’s, but body shimmer is one of those things I rarely remember to use, lol!
I tried this yesterday, it smells gorgeous, wish they had release a perfume. Don’t want the sparkle.
I think they are reissuing the scent? Though I couldn’t find out how many or how expensive (it sounded very exclusive, lol).
They are only releasing a few bottles and they are THOUSANDS of dollars each. It kills me because this is one of the few vintage Guerlain scents I’ve never been able to find a sample of.
That’s what I thought – last night when I was writing it up, I was looking for info, but I didn’t really find a date or price… but what I did read sounded exclusive. Knowing Guerlain and its perfumes, those can get insanely expensive. Like $20K expensive!
I read one time that the perfume are very limited and the price around 17k euro. 🙂
This is very lovely (and seems like a pretty decent size). I have it on my wishlist..was a bit hesitant but now after your review I think I’ll take the plunge! 🙂 Maybe they’ll have a matching fragrance at some point!!!
I know it’s based off of the scent, and I believe they’re reissuing it… I just don’t know what kind of release it is (it sounded exclusive aka prohibitively expensive for most).
This is one of those things I envision on my vanity as I fancy myself a sophisticated and elegant lady getting ready for a classy evening. Mmmmmm but considering the reality of me being a poor graduate student… Ehhhhhh…. I’d have to try it out when it comes out in counters, but the packaging for sure is gorgeous. If it ends up bringing me a piece of heaven, I might save up for it. Thanks always for the review!
My pleasure, Gaiya! Hope you at least have a lil’ fun playing with it at counter 🙂
If I won it, I’d be thrilled. But to shell out $100 of my makeup budget for it – nope!
It’s definitely a collector’s item!
So pretty 🙂 this is what I use Chanel Fantasme to schieve, actually! The Guerlain sprays are so gorgeous though, with that golden bow… I loved the pink that was in the Crazy Paris one too!
Really! Fantasme as a body highlighter/shimmer? Interesting… Wouldn’t have thought to use it that way 😉
I don’t find anything about this appealing. I don’t care for patchouli scent, I think the bottle is ugly, and it sounds like a messy delivery method for sparkle. It seems more of a collector’s item to me.
I think it’s definitely a collector’s piece (in the same way that some of the LE Pressed Meteorite compacts have been).
I’m very intrigued by this I must say. If this comes to NZ (and the price isn’t out of this world ridiculous) I just might be tempted …..
(Am agog with horror at the possible prices of the actual perfume- THOUSANDS of dollars?? Pass me the smelling salts)
Ahh, yes, Guerlain does these ultra limited (like sometimes 1-3 of them), over-the-top releases for fragrance at times.
It’s stunning, but I know I’d make no use of it 🙁 Wish that they had released it as a perfume instead (or rather, a more affordable one than the super-limited super-expensive one!).
I wish they did, too!
This is such a pretty collection! I just haven’t been all that tempted by the holiday collections this year – but I think this spray, the meteorites, and maybe the red lipstick are going on my wish list!
Sounds like a fun haul in the making!
I would love to have this, but I can get so much I need for that amount of money.
I love the whole vintage vibe, I want a white and gold vanity with a three fold mirror and the tpo of it always in order and shiny just to place this in the center of it.
I hope I’l get to at least try it at a counter.
So lovely!
That vanity would be so pretty!
It’s all about the fragrance which seems a miss.. But if you have a really fancy hello kitty.. Could work. I’m disappointed because the pre-show seemed so promising. Tsk.. 🙂
I really wish I got more of the scent!
Right! Have you ANY idea if it’s a fluke? Or is it pretty much like that for everyone?
Haven’t heard either way!
I haven’t love-loved a Guerlain shimmer since Vol de Nuit, but this? THIS WILL BE MINE. oh yes.
Awesome! 🙂 Where do you like to spritz the holiday powders most?
I bet that would look stunning in hair!
It would!
I’d be all over this if it were the perfume, because I don’t believe you can buy that anymore, but I don’t think I’d use the shimmer. I’m always glad to see Guerlain do these though because it’s such a cool and luxurious concept.
They are interesting – a nice thing for collector’s.
How does this compare with Liu spray powder?
They’re really about the same in color. Coque d’Or seems slightly finer.
This is definitely a luxury product and I’m loving it lol. The packaging is everything! I can already picture it sitting pretty on my vanity lol
It would be lovely on a vanity!
Did you get yours in store or mailed? I received mine and its beautiful! But it has a layer in the box and on the bottle of the powder and not sure to exchange in store for a new one for fear i didn’t get my full value amount of powder.
Mine is a press sample!
