What do you like to see in a beauty department?

It must be with the new year on the horizon that mass beauty retailers are rolling out new formats for shoppers in their beauty departments. Several major mass retailers, like CVS, Duane Reade, Target, and Wal-Mart are planning to remodel/improve their beauty aisles. According to WWD, we can expect to see wider aisles, less brands, and a focus on value–all to make it a better shopping experience. Even department stores like Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue are reworking their beauty floors!

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Swatches/testers and better advertised sales. I don’t buy anything from a high brand if there isn’t a sale of any kind. If you don’t have sales, you won’t get my money.

Swatches are a must! But I would really like them to be better taken care of/cleaner. Everything is always messed up and picked over when I get there and I end up going home with nothing.

I work at Walgreens, in the cosmetics department… oh how I wish they’d give us testers. We already have most of those new items in (Sally Hansen & L’Oreal)… I haven’t tried the roller foundation but I will soon. 🙂

At drug store beauty departments I would like to see more testers readily available with hand and product sanitizers. At Sephora, the staff would approach me and ask if I want anything sanitized to be tested. Of course I look for neat and clean merchandising of the product.

i love testing and swatching before i buy. (which is why i love sephora so much>) i stay away from drugstore because you can’t try before you buy and then most retailers refuse to take back products because they have been “used.” i know every store’s policy is different but every time i try to return a too dark or too light shade of something, they either refuse to take it or they raise heck about it. when the stores do have testers, they always end up looking really crummy; i think this is because people let their kids run around the store unsupervised or people are just gross. i am usually more willing to buy more expensive stuff just to be sure i will not be throwing my money down the drain on a product i don’t like. what’s the use of spending all my money in several smaller purchases in the hopes of finding one product i like versus buying one expensive product i know i will like?

Lorna,CVS,Rite Aid and Walgreen’s all take back opened and used cosmetics as long as you have a receipt and the packaging and I’ve never had a hassle at any of them.

If you haven’t tried Sally Hansen’s new Complete Manicure, you’re in for a surprise! A very nice surprise! Regardless of what the promos say, the BIG news is the BRUSH! It’s unlike any nail polish brush I’ve ever seen or used! It’s more like a substantial lip brush. And it’s amazing! Revolutionary, in fact!

testers, for sure… also, i’d like to see more of those “not very well known” cheaper brands, like when target started selling elf products… and when the cvs near me started selling milani finally. I’m not really all for buying a pretty yet horribly drying lipstick from covergirl for 10-something dollars when I can get the same quality/color for like 5-7 bucks cheaper from milani or wet’n’wild.
