Looks - Black Ore Solar Bits and Neo Sci Fi Dramatic Eyes

Quick look using Solar Bits. Boy, they are a bit messy. I recommend using them BEFORE applying foundation, that way you can wipe away any fall out. I used mine with mixing medium, so once it’s on, it shouldn’t have any (or minimal) fall out, but you will get some bits and pieces that fall out when you initially apply it to the lid. The Solar Bits also smudge a LOT and very easily, so you may want to use makeup remover on a swab to clean up, rather than flicking it away (which generally just smudges it all over your face).

As an aside, the lips for this look are not the ones I’d normally opt for, BUT I wanted to try out my two new Neo Sci Fi lip products anyhoo 😉  I’d usually pair this dramatic eye with nude lips — think Pleasureseeker or Sunsonic and Naked Space together! Since it’s hard to visualize, I included a full face shot of me wearing Strawberry Blonde lipstick with Vital Spark lipglass–something less OTT and more in line with the look.

I used Black Ore solar bits with mixing medium all over lid, Goldmine eyeshadow on inner lid, Antiqued eyeshadow on middle of lid (could substitute Time & Space here!), Carbon eyeshadow on outer lid and crease, Femme-fi eyeshadow (LE) above crease and on brow, Black Ore solar bits on lower lash line, Feline kohl power on lower lash line, Femme-Fi eyeshadow (LE) on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. I wore Other Worldly blush (LE) on cheeks. I had Sci Fi Delity lipstick (LE) with Supreme lipglass (LE) on my lips.

** These are recommendations for dupes based on permanent colors available — may not necessarily be identical; they are the closest I can think of!

Femme-fi = Shroom; Other Worldly = Honour; Sci Fi Delity = New York Apple (blotted); Supreme = Explicit

Love the drama on your eyes, the colors make your eyes look like cat eyes – very cool!! I love the lippy on you, but you are right, it’s very OTT. It would look beautiful with a neutral eye though …

This look is fabulous!! How would you compare BLK ORE to the pigment..(can’t remember off the top of my head) but it is also a dark grey/blk with gold???

Tammy Avatar

Lol….Dark soul !! Had to go look 😉
It does look like it has a more blk with gold glitter whereas the Dark Soul pigment is blk with a gold cast…I have to order online no MAC here ;( So I don’t want it to be the same…thanks!

Katherine Avatar

Wow – that is so awesome!! So dark but shiny and reflective. The Solar Bits may be messy, but that looks amazing. I really want Femme-Fi.

Erin Avatar

I LOVE THIS!!!!! You look gorgeous and I am SO getting the Sci-Fidelity lipstick.

How did you find the Solar Bits? Were they hard to work with? If so, I have Mixing Medium, would that help?

I want to get the Black Ore but I’m not so sure.

Christine Avatar

Hey Erin!

They NEEEED mixing medium like you need air, seriously. I just can’t imagine them working very well without some sort of wetted brush (you might be able to get away with Fix+ or water — but I never use either, so I’m not positive it would dry well, y’know?). The mixing medium intensifies the color, keeps the particles together (for the most part) before and when you apply, and then it holds it altogether in the end. ESSENTIAL!

Black Ore by itself is freakin’ gorgeous. Kind of reminded me of Antiques Gold reflects glitter with lots of black. I was originally just gonna put that alone on my lid, but then I got carried away, LOL. Next time…

Gorgeous Christine! I ordered mine online and was worried about Black Ore because it looked a bit gritty on some swatches before it was released but now that you did a look with it, it’s really nice and indeed a perfect accessory to a smoky look!

Shefali Avatar

I like the look Christine! HOWEVER, I’m going to be a no on the Solar Bits. I was so excited, but if it’s that much work to apply, forget it. I’m of the belief that make-up (especially when you pay alot), shouldn’t be so difficult to put on.

Christine Avatar

Hey Shefali!

Thanks!

They’re not *too* difficult, but they do take patience and a little planning. I think the more annoying part was that Black Ore is SO rich and black that you have to make sure you remove with makeup remover rather than just wipe it away. It smudges and sticks!

Shefali Avatar

Hey Christine! I went today and checked them out. I like the colors. When I swatched them on my hand, I had to apply some pressure to sort of lightly crush them. It was trippy. I still didn’t buy any…but had quite the major haul. Future Earth was not out…bummer. I really wanted that Volcanic Ash Exfoliator and the lip exfoliator.

Davina Avatar

wow!! i love metallics and wasn’t sure about the solar bits, but i’m excited now that i ordered some samples on LJ cause this is beautiful! i love the e/s shape you made with the black ore, it is really complimentary with your eyes. 🙂
and the combo Sci Fi Delity lipstick & Supreme lipglass will be mine… that is to die for! i’m all about browny reds.

I love the orange-y-copper highlights in the center of the lid!!! This is one of my favorite looks that you’ve done…usually you go for a natural look and that is appreciated, but your extreme- color application is flawless!

Faiza Avatar

This look is just so freaking HOTT! Christine you incorporated the colors together SO WELL. Its beauuuutiful, YOU look beautiful!!

Stephanie D Avatar

I LOVE IT!!! This looks so good on your brown eyes. Are you gonna do a tutorial for this? I would love to see your application.

Gina Avatar

gorgeous! I went to my freestanding store today and they didn’t have the collection in yet =( Oh well, at least I have more time to look at swatches and try to find some dupes before i get something! keep up the good work!

Brooke Avatar

omg this is so amazing, it took my breath away. i know i can’t do the solar bits tho. maybe i’ll get a sample lol i def need sci fidelity

Carrie Avatar

Totally gorgeous! I think I’m going to have to pick up a Solar Bit or two just as a toy — cuz I don’t know how often I’ll have the opportunity to wear it out, these days 😛

joyce Avatar

Looks great! I wasn’t really planning on gtting black ore but this look you did Christine just changed my mind! LOL. I’m going to the Pro store tomorrow hoping to get all solar field pigments 🙂

Kharina Avatar

W-O-W! Love the look! One of your top 5 on my list fo-sho!

Also, I noticed your eyebrows are a bit thicker or fuller and I personally LOVE how they look as well.

(jeez…when does the coveting stop?)

Anyway, do you mind my asking what color you used to fill in your eyebrows for THIS look? And is that the same color you mostly use for your other looks or do you alternate?

By the way, thanks so much for sharing!

Christine Avatar

Hey Kharina!

Thank you!! I’ve been trying to thicken up for the past few weeks. It is very slow going, but I’m trying. I used Smut eyeshadow in this look. I do alternate between Smut, Espresso, and Carbon. It kind of depends how dramatic or dark I want my brows. Espresso is lightest — I used that for two years, probably, and I only recently started using Smut. Usually if I use Carbon, I do Espresso first, then Carbon to define–Smut is a nice in-between, basically. Less steps!

Charlotte Avatar

That’s an awesome look! I am not seeing anything wrong with the eye/lip color combo. I would wear that on my own face. Black Ore looks really cool. How similar is it to that Nars black gold shadow, does anyone know?

victoria Avatar

wow amaaaazing. i think this is my new favorite look from you. not just the drama but the transition is wonderful up close and from a distance and i find it very wearable too. you must do a tutorial for this one.

Molly Avatar

oh and I forgot to ask, did you happen to see the nail polish?? I normally don’t wear any, but people rave about how long it lasts compared to others.

jesstooimpress Avatar

I was checking out select tint seeing summers coming and I’m not always going to want to layer the makeup on, if I’m like a nw35 what shade do u think would suit me?

Jan Avatar

I wasn’t so sure of this look when I saw only the ‘eye’ pictures…but the overall look is FANTABULOUS! Like, wow, dramatic but not overly so. I’m not from the US so this collection is gonna take some time to get here…sigh!

as always awesome job. Thanks for shanring your experience and thoughts about the solar bits. They look really pretty but I might pass on these. it seems to difficult to work with. HA! But then again I might change my mind later.

kellie Avatar

Has anybody with contacts tried to use solar bits yet? I can use pigments but glitter is a def no no. Just wondering how they will react with my contacts.

Ariele Avatar

Gorgeous! I bought this along with Scatterays yesterday. The MA was wearing both on her eyes & it looked soo nice; she had the Black Ore toned down a lot though. I did notice that the Solar Bits get ALL over te place though. Even after I had used hand sanitizer after swatching the products on my hands, I had gold flecks EVERYWHERE.

Anyway, you used Black Ore as the base in this look, right? How did it hold up?

Ju Avatar

I don’t like strong eyes with strong lips but here, non ! This look is perfect ! It’s really “classe” and fresh.
I love it 😀

Márcia Avatar

I love the dramatic look you created with this collection, especially the touch of the bronze colour in the middle of your lid. AMAZING!

pompam Avatar

i love the outcome color!!!
its just the black color tone that ive ever dreamed for..
but the problem for me is..that messy part
with my beginner skills, i dont know whether i can pull it off or not
sign*
but kind of mixing medium did you use? did u get the glitters everywhere at the end, i mean on your face and maybe on your clothes.
Ive heard some girls complain bot how messy it is,,that worried me

aksaiyo Avatar

Wow, (yes I am late to the party) this is really gorgeous! I’ve always loved black and gold together, and was looking for an inspirational FOTD when I found this! Thanks so much! I’ve ordered black ore and can’t wait for my aunt to bring it to me when she comes to visit!!
