Exfoliate lips either the night before or the morning of, lip balm on and then removed fully before applying actual lip color. I would start with lip liner and fill in the entire lip, then I would use a lip brush to apply a medium to dark lipstick color (darker colors usually last longer), then I would take a tissue and pat loose, translucent powder over it, add more lipstick, and blot once.

I did a blog post about this not too long ago hahah. I like to line my lips fully, blot, apply a thin layer of my preferred lip color, blot, then finish off with the last layer of lip color. I find multiple, thin layers last a while longer than one thick layer
I colour my entire lip with lip liner then layer lipstick over it. I’ll use one of my matte or semi-matte shades.
Pretty much the same as you! 😀 The only difference is that instead of using a translucent powder (which I don’t have), I rub the lipstick in as a stain first before applying lipliner/another layer of lipstick.
Two layers of a YSL glossy stain. Easy & effortless.
One word: PermaTone.
Exfoliate and moisturize lips the day before, then exfoliate again in morning. Then, instead of using a colorless balm, I’ll use a tinted one that stains a similar shade to whatever lipstick I’m wearing. After that soaks in I apply, blot, apply my lipstick. I keep the tinted balm on hand so when my lips get dry I’m always adding color, not removing it.
Apply, blot, apply, blot, apply. I am so lazy when it comes to lipstick… 🙂 Maybe it’s because I like sheerer color and don’t mind reapplying.
Exfoliate, prime and line lips, then apply lipstick (usually from tube)!
Lip liner or primer – recently bought one that was a translucent wax on one end and a priming balm on the other and it’s been working a treat! Speaking of, Christine do you know of any lipstick dupes of the colour of the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’ lip liner? Thanks!
Sorry, I don’t think I have that!
I bring my lipstick with me, in a black velvet lipstick case… I’ve never been in a situation where I couldn’t reapply/touch-up my lipstick, nor can I imagine what that could be. Lip products are the easiest product to reapply, and take up no space in even the smallest purse, so I don’t see what the big deal is,
I bring my lipstick with me, in a black velvet lipstick case… I’ve never been in a situation where I couldn’t reapply/touch-up my lipstick, nor can I imagine what that could be. Lip products are the easiest product to reapply, and take up no space in even the smallest purse, so I don’t see what the big deal is. However, using a matching lip powder or coordinating eyeshadow/pigment/blush to set it can help it last, although I just find it easier/more convenient to reapply.
I’ve been in many situations where I couldn’t reapply lipsticks. Mainly, there are times at work where I’m in a long conference then have to run to back to back meetings and am hustling for time. So, while its not “a big deal”, it happens and its easier to not have to worry about finding a bathroom or a private corner to touch up my lipstick without looking like a 6 year old applied it, lol.
That’s when I just rely on MLBB shades. I’ve done customer service jobs all my working life, and I’ve *never* not been able to duck in the bathroom at some point and swipe on my lipstick. On days where I had meetings/training, I just went with a tinted lip balm, which was also a wise choice due to the blasting AC.
on exfoliated and moisturized lips, I fill in the entire lip withe lip liner, apply lipstick from the tube, blot, and then dab on more lipstick. I usually skip the translucent powder because it dries out my lips too much.
What kind of translucent powder do you use?
Really whatever I have on hand, to be honest!
I exfoliate the morning on, lip pencil all over the lip, then lip balm. I leave that on, while doing other makeup. Then, I put on Buxom Lip foundation. I use a lip brush to apply the lipstick. Then light translucent powder and apply from the tube.
Exfoliate the lip with a sugar scrub. Apply a light coat of lipbalm, and let it soak into my lip while I do the rest of my makeup. Use a lipstick primer or base. Line and fill in my lip with matching lipliner. Use a lipbrush to apply an even, not too thick coat of lipstick. Blot lightly. Again, using a lipbrush, apply an even, not too thick coat of lipstick.
Lip balm before putting on any makeup. After my makeup is on I blot off the majority of the lip balm, apply a lip primer, out line my lips with liner filling in at the corners and just the tiniest bit above my lip line. I always use a bullet lipstick, so I apply that and then a quick dash of lip gloss.
1. Proper soft moist plump lip care.
After preparation..
2. Push a slightly sticky yet nourishing lip primer into the lips. If you need to cancel color, lip priner should also be a lip concealer. (Conealer can also be a step 3 by way of liner that cancels color..
Once pressed in and set..
3. When ready for color, Line lips with a great liner the color of the lipstick and fill the entire lip areas in with it.
4. Press the liner into the lip with a brush and crystalline setting powder. Press again
5. Using a lip brush, apply a thin veil of chosen lipstick.. Let it set.
6. After 15 or so or less minutes, press in another thin layer of lipstick with the brush.. Let set another few minutes
7. Press the color into the lips by applying the lipstick agsin, gently pressing while gliding along contours of lips precisely.. It should be set well!
8. For comfort and to assure extra longevity, apply a clear sticky gloss that clings it round your lips more hugging-like in a kind way. Add highlight if you’d like, pack the lipstick with you, just in case, and go.. But it really should just wear off evenly and slowly due to pressed layers clings to lips and gloss.
For me, that’s a special occasion lip for someone. My lips are so pigmented that I’ve never had to do anything to make sure color stays. Only lip balms and glosses.. So to keep my lip color, I take care of my lips. 🙂
Actually just the same way as you do, Christine.
Your routine is the same as mine. I did red lips for being a bridesmaid this spring and all the girls called me a wizard because I had perfect lipstick all evening.
They apparently thought one application of LIP GLOSS was gonna last 6 hours and 2 meals?
