mufe-shadow-metallic-finish

I’m working my way through reviewing Make Up For Ever’s Artist Shadows ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.), so I thought that while I’m testing, you could at least check out swatches of all the shades with a Metallic finish that I hope to review soon (excluding shades from the 30th Anniversary Palette, click the link for swatches of those)!  ðŸ™‚

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What is it about these eyeshadows that makes them unsafe for eyes? I remember that urban decay did the same thing with the Electric Palette. Are they really unsafe or just unapproved by the FDA or something?

614, 644, 554 (especially lovely) are so desirable and there are several other shades that are just gorgeous. I have to say, the numbering (like Inglot’s system) frustrates me – I do better with names – but I can fully understand why a professional line with an extensive collection would have numbers rather than names. Still don’t like it though – numbers don’t mean much to me. I can easily identify the products I have that carry a name; those with numbers, not so much.

It’s funny – Sephora must feel the same, because the boutique told me that Sephora gives their products names but they aren’t named in the boutiques. They mentioned how they’ll have people call for such-and-such (using the name), and they only have numbers in-store.

These all run together as far as the numbers go. I can’t keep them straight at all!

I hate that. It’s so much harder to remember random numbers. I like it when cosmetics have a name and a number. I can remember the name, but the number is there for reference should it be needed.

I have #554. It swatched beautifully in the store. However, when I applied to my lids at home it was very sheer. I used a base. I also tried packing it on with my finger, but it was still very sheer. I had the same problem with I-544. I might try the matte shades, but I will not be purchasing any more metallic or iridescent shadows. Let me know what you think of #544.

Yes some colors are sheer because they are meant to serve as contours and/or eyebrow colors. However even these can be built up for eye use with the correct thick fluffy brush over primer. 😀 The product is called “artist shadows,” not “eye shadows” – the idea of the new line is gel-powder colors of various textures for multi-use all over the face and body. So many are blushes, contours, eyebrow, body shaders, etc. 😀

I did use a primer. I also tried several different brushes and then tried using my finger to pack the color on. Maybe I should have picked darker colors. I understand the concept of these shadows. Since the two I have are metallic and iridescent shadows I doubt they are intended for be used on your eyebrows.

*droool* 😀 There are some seriously gorgeous shades in this line, really!

I agree with the other comments on the number/name thing though. It’s so much easier to remember a name! I think names also lead to fewer mistakes when people are talking about shades. It’s totally understandable when it happens (would happen to me too, I can guarantee it), but it can make searching for swatches/reviews etc very confusing sometimes!

For that reason, I’m going to say that my favourites here are the chartreuse, the taupe one (looks a bit like Angel from Vice 3 or Mushroom?), the orange, the rosymauve shade that follws the orange, and the final peachy gold! 😀 The purple is nice, but I wish it were a tiny bit more pigmented. 🙂

Christine, you are a saint for doing this! Granted, if it was my job, I’d prob enjoy it lol
But the numbers! They’re driving me nuts, so they reeeeellly must be driving you nuts! I’ve been liking that Sephora has names with the numbers & didn’t know that it was specific to Sephora until I read your post.
Anyway, I looooove ME-912 (orchid), & noticed that it’s not as metallic-y as the other two ME’s I have…could be because it’s listed as a blush..? I also have ME-512 (golden beige), it’s very light & very golden, and ME-728 (copper red). It seems to be more orange than red in appearance to me, but it’s beautiful all the same

Helene Avatar

Oh, this is bad news for my poor little old wallet! I want almost all of these. I love the green, 338 a lot.912 is so pretty both as a blush and as an eyeshadow. I could keep addingn numbers, but it would get a it boring to read.
I must go and try out a lot at Sephora, soon. Good thing they are permanent!
