Looks - Alta Moda vs. Temptalia: "I'm a Vampire" Edition

So I know we had a post a few weeks ago about what kind of look would you want to wear but haven’t, and a lot of you mentioned red lips.  You’re not alone with having a bit of trepidation when it comes to consideration a red lip–I have plenty!  Especially when it comes to deeper, vampy reds.  I invite you to take the Temptalia Red Lips Challenge and try out some reds for yourself.  If you’d like to post your results, just send them along to temptalia@gmail.com.  But I still urge you all to try them out, even if only in the bathroom by yourself!

For my challenge, I chose my arch nemesis:  Alta Moda. You can see how Alta Moda looks on its own, but how I attempted to make it more “me” friendly by adding a lipglass on top.  Plus, you can see a comparison of this look with and without upper lash liner.

I used Cash Flow paint pot (LE) on lid, Casablanca eyeshadow (LE) on inner and middle of lid, Embark eyeshadow on outer lid, Smut eyeshadow on outer crease, Nylon eyeshadow above crease and on brow, Blacktrack fluidline on upper lash line (in some photos), Graphblack technakohl on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. I had Other Worldly blush (LE) on cheeks with Daisydust beauty powder (PRO) to highlight. I wore Alta Moda prolongwear with clear gloss and Red Romp lipglass (LE) (in some photos) on my lips.

** These are recommendations for dupes based on permanent colors available – may not necessarily be identical; they are the closest I can think of!

Cash Flow = Patina; Casablanca = Nylon, Other Worldly = Trace Gold; Red Romp = Russian Red

Just Alta Moda + Clear Lipglass

I VANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD!

Alta Moda + Clear Lipglass + Red Romp Lipglass

Wow, you really look almost like a different person with the red lips! They look good, but very different.
I’ve been playing around with Comet Blue Dazzleglass over different red lipstick colors, I like the way it looks but I don’t have the nerve to wear dark red lipstick in public.

That looks awesome Christine. I have a red lip look that I wore in Vegas this weekend. It’s with Port Red. If I remember, I’ll send it in!

Bold and Beautiful! I think with the right combination Alta Moda will look good. Also for this look, lining your upper lash line just completes everything!

VERY beautiful!! I think this turned out GREAT! It’s so sparkly and deep and fresh and raw! It reminds me of all the amazing makeup and bright lip colors used in Speed Racer! You should go see it, and see what I mean!

I totally love the eyes! Will try that look tomorrow.
As for the lips, I understand your reluctance to go out with such a bold color, I am the same, but it looks gorgeous on you anyway!!!
I took up your challenge and tried red lips. Port Red – it is a beautiful color, but I did not leave the bathroom before removing it again, I can´t change who I am. (used a lipgloss by BB called Naked instead, that says it all!)

You look so gorgeous!!
I like both looks, but I think I prefer your “signature no liner”-look. :o)
I wish my teeth were a little whiter…

that color on you is beyond awesome! I have no clue why it would be your nemesis. I can’t find alta moda, what would be a good dupe mac or not? I love the color.

Love it! I don’t know why you are hesitant to wear the red–you have such nice dark skin and hair. Now, if you were like, white as a ghost with a cat eye and bright lips, that might be odd!

Looks great!! Keep them coming!

looks great! u carry it off really well. im going to a mac technique event this weekend and hope i’ll be able to find a red to suit me!

Fabulous look, Girl. Everything looks great. I think I wanna try this color.
I actually love dark red lipsticks, looking for more to try. They are sexy. I LOVE Dark Side and Spice It Up, which is a more sheer red, but you can always add lipglass to it. However I have the Viva Glam lipstick, which is a more true red matte, and i really like the color, but it does NOT look good under lipglass.

Wow you are working that look girl!
I think without the cat eye is more “day” and the cat eye is perfect for 6pm and later!

LOL! I love the “I VANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD!” That’s hilarious. I also love the eye shadows! I definitely need to check out Patina sometime soon when I gots enough monayy to seriously hit up MAC and take home bunchies of shadows.

Christine, you look fantastic with the dark red lips. I think that your full lips totally pull it off; red lip colors tend to make my lips seem wayyy smaller. Plus, the dark red really makes your white teeth stand out! I liked the Alta Moda put together with the cat eye look better. The eyeliner adds va va voom to match the red! And, it adds more definition to your eyes, so the lips don’t steal the spotlight from your gorgeous eyes TOO much.

I think that part of the allure with red lips is the expressive nature–the lips are heavily emphasized, and people can’t help but notice you more and pay attention to everything you say. I think that kind of expressive-ness empowers a woman and boosts confidence, inspiring one’s inner siren to unleash and express that kind of sexy dominatrix persona. Of course, there is the glamorous effect associated with red lips, too!

Sometimes when you’re self-conscious about a look, I’ve found the best way is to make fun of yourself and make silly faces in the mirror, LOL. You’d be surprised how many ugly faces I can make!

Thank you so very much! It’s always comforting to know others think it looks good on me, lol!

Meesh Avatar

Good Lord no one can work a red lip quite like you, Ms. Christine!!! This is BEAUTIFUL!!! I love this look so much. I could NEVER pull it off, so you go girl!

Kell Avatar

Love the red, you pull it off perfectly, I’d definitely wear it going out if I were you. I’d really love to see Port Red on you, I’m in love with that colour.

Stacey Avatar

I actually really like this red on you, Christine! I can see why you would feel a bit scared of a colour like this, it’s so intense! I think it looks fantastic 🙂

Kaley Avatar

That red color definately works for you – you look like a vampire! (nothing wrong with that, but I think you’ll only be able to rock this look at a very limited number of places…) I wouldn’t go for a lippie as dark as your one as I’m not THAT confident when it comes to reds. I think I’ll stick to my Viva Glam I shade 😉

Katie Avatar

I know this is an older post, but I have to say thank goodness for Viva Glam Cyndi. I have never had a courage to wear any kind of red until this came along. I love how the perfect shade of red can make you feel so pretty and confident.

I’ve been looking at your looks and, consequently, at your old entries and wanted to say:

1. You look younger now that you’ve chosen to keep your eyebrows more natural (as opposed to how they were in this entry). They have a really beautiful shape.

2. Of course you don’t have the time anymore, but it’s nice to read through these older entries where you talk about why you made the look and what you wore it to. Or that you made it just because you felt like it, etc. 🙂

Well, that’s it! Love your blog, it’s always inspiring! I have it on my reader so I don’t miss anything. 🙂
