I definitely add primer to my routine both for eyes as well as the face. I also make sure to keep a powder compact with me, as it helps to touch-up and extend the wear of my base if I find it’s not lasting as well as I want it to later on! I also like to layer powder blush over a cream blush. On lips, I’ll start with a lip liner, then a lipstick.

My routine doesn’t change, but I also don’t have friends or a life outside of my laptop so there is never a need for long lasting makeup, lol. I just still use a face and eye primer no matter what.
I use kleenex/blotting papers between each layer of product. (i.e…moisturizer/sunscreen-primer/foundation/concealer). Normal things I normally forgo like primer, setting spray, powder, and certain brushes I would definitely use. I would also select products I know are long-wearing on me (i.e. waterproof liner, mascara, foundation and concealer). I would make sure to be more careful to add thin layers and build more coverage if needed. I’d bring along lipstick, powder, concealer and blotting papers for touch-ups. If the weather/environment I need to travel through is working against me–I would just apply what I know would withstand the weather and finish the rest when I get near my destination.
Definitely primer! and I also keep blotting paper and some light reflecting/blurring powder around for touch ups!
I tend to wear long-wearing products on my eyes already, so the only thing I’d do differently is to wear long-wearing lip color. As for face, I just use my Palladio blotting paper/powder in case I need to take down the shine.
I use a setting spray.
I change hydro-primer to matte finish primer and use matte foundation and translucent setting powder because I want a powder to help about oil-control not added coverage and make me look cakey but I’m combination skin and matte foundation is enough for me to not oily, wear my hair up( having your hair brush against your face all day long is a sure way to take off your makeup a little faster) 🙂
I apply a primer, set everything with powder and use a matte finish setting spray
I apply moisturizer and primer (Korres Vitamin E Face Primer), then setting powder (ELF HD Setting Powder), then foundation and a little bit of setting powder where it’s needed. I also use UD Setting Spray at the end.
I would use a primer first, and i would use a long lasting foundation and other long lasting products. I would also ensure to set my makeup properly
I always want my makeup to last due to long days, so I work some extra steps into my routine. I add eyeshadow primer, face primer (currently obsessed with Laura Mercier Radiance), lip primer, lip liner, and setting spray. I also make sure to have MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, lip liner, and the lip color for my day with me.
It doesn’t since I always use primer, to protect my skin from the make up, so as a side effect, it lasts longer.
I prime my skin and eyes. I also layer everything. So I use cream eyeshadow, blush, and liquid foundation, but layer a setting powder, powder blush, and powder eyeshadow. I also wear waterproof where possible and set my eyelider with a shadow. For lips I’ll use a stain and a lipstick. Then I set everything with a setting spray.
Products I love for this:
Hard candy primer
PF youthful wear foundation
TF shadow insurance
Elf mist and set
Flower cream eyeshadow
Elf waterproof pen liner
Elf HD blush
And Josie Maran lip tint
Products I reach for when I want an extra long-lasting FOTD:
– Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation
– Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray
– Neutrogena Shine Control Pressed Powder
– Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow
– CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara
It doesn’t, really… I just try to touch up the best way I can. My eye make-up usually stays put all day and all night if it has to. But with my oily skin I can never make my face make-up last for more than 12 hours.
I’d for sure use Hourglass Mineral Veil primer – it’s my go to if I want foundation to apply well and to keep that perfect look as the day or night wears on. UDPP for eyes, for sure. MAC Prep+Prime finishing powder and Clarins Fix Makeup Spray or UD All Nighter (I prefer the former, as I feel it’s better for the skin). Cheeks – Tarte Natural Beauty lasts well on me. Lips – I don’t have a lipstick primer, although I want to try MAC’s but I’d use a lip product like Clarins Rouge Prodige or or a MAC long-lasting lipstick I have (I think it’s maybe Pro Longwear – it’s in the skinny tube and I think it’s from the Daphne Guiness collection)
I add a primer after my moisturizer, let it sit. Then I buff on a powder (finishing or translucent powder) and let it sit for a bit. After my usual routine, I go back over with the powder. This extends the life of my foundation for an extra 4 hours or so!
Definitely! I use too faced lip primer- it is super drying but works, especially if there’s drinks involved… And I use skindinavia setting spray on my face.
Always primer….and if the weather is warm, a light dusting of powder.
I don’t really do much different, I already use primer and base on my eyelids to make my eyeshadow last really long. If I’m going to be doing something where I can’t touch up my lipstick, I sometimes use the extended wear versions but I generally don’t the texture and the way they wear off.
I might use primer on my oilier places (especially the oil field that is my undereyes), and I usually use compact powder instead of loose powder. I’ll do the tissue-powder trick over my lipstick too because that’s definitely always the first to go. Then I put my waterline liner on absolutely last and be sure to have blot powder with me.
I don’t have a set “daily routine”, so I can’t say things differ… Besides, the only time I have issues with my makeup really holding up is during all-day, outdoor activities/events, and since reapplying SPF every 2 hours, touch-ups are inherent, so I don’t really care. I also don’t have issues with eye makeup, unless it’s really hot/humid, and my physical activity level is high. I do have certain products I’ve found to work well:
Maybelline Color Tattoos
UD 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara (even the non-waterproof one holds up)
Essence Long-Wearing pencil eyeliner
Kat von D eyeshadow primer (I wear this every time I do Disneyland, and it’s bulletproof! )
I will also use a powder after penciling in my brows to set. I also remove lip products before eating/drinking, so reapplication is another thing I just always do, so I do nothing different.
Hi Amy! I noticed you mentioned that you re-apply SPF every 2 hours–and it sounds like you do it while you have makeup on. Is there a certain special way you do it? I always cringe when I’m rubbing on MORE spf on a face that isn’t clean and still made up.
I use Benefit Stay Flawless primer under my primer for pores.
And I carry my Blot Powder from MAC for touch ups.
You use two face primers?
I will put the most long lasting primer that I have.
Face primer I love Algenist anti-aging primer. It’s such a great but not popular product. It lasts more than 8 hours and holds my foundation/BB cream so well under southern humidity and hot weather. Great for travelling when touch-ups are not really available during hiking and walking in the park. It also kinda creates a blend-able base so I can smudge the foundation a little bit when they get cakey.
Eye primer and lip balm also. I ll apply everything with pressing gesture with a firm brush. Using loose powder instead of pressed powder. Lip stain instead of lip gloss. Revlon lip stain is so penetrable that even after eating or wiping, it still leaves some color into my lips. It’s normally not a good thing coz it takes extra time to clean off, but for long-wear effect, this is my cure.
A typical day for me is 12-14 hours, so longevity is one of the most important factors of the products I purchase. I’m willing to spend extra for something I don’t have to reapply. I find that certain brands or formulas last longer on me than others (Le Metier de Beaute eyeshadow, Urban Decay eyeliner, as examples). Eye and face primer is a must (long time lover of MAC Paint Pot for eyes, currently using Philosophy The Present as primer, as it goes well with my foundation). I also have a small makeup bag I take with me to reapply if needed. MAC Face & Body is great for touch-ups (not my favorite formula for foundation in general because I like fuller coverage, but it works beautifully for touch-ups).
I have very dry skin. I use a primer for eyes, lips and face on a daily basis. I currently use Too Faced HangoveRX primer for the face, UD PP Anti-Aging for eyes, and Buxom Lip Foundation. The only problems I have with makeup disappearing is highlighter, blush, and bronzer. I tend to touch my cheeks alot, so I know why that is happening. I use products that I know will last on me: UD mostly.
Even if I’m only running out to the store, I apply my makeup to withstand an atomic bomb. Mainly because I want to look nice no matter what, and I hate reapplying and touching up stuff.
So regardless of the reason, I put on all the primer, all the creamy base, all the setting powder, all the setting spray lol.
I use a setting spray to keep everything in place for a while. Firm & Revitallize Toning Facial Mist by Claribel.
I always want my makeup to last so my basic routine doesn’t change.
I absolutely LOVE this blog – I learn something new almost every day about products I want to try!
Thank you, Deborah!
I have oily skin so I use Becca primer and the nyx eye primer, the makeup forever matte foundation. I still need to blot every couple if hours. I can get a workday out of mymKeup if I also use waterproof eye products like the makeup for ever or Tarte.
I work in a very fast-paced kitchen. It gets hot and sweaty every day, not to mention the 80% humidity outside in the summer. When I’m working, I wear Tarte Clean Slate Poreless 12- Hour Perfecting Primer, Revlon Colorstay, set with HD Powder and I use Urban Decay’s Deslick. At the end of the day, I’m the only girl in the kitchen with flawless foundation.
I make sure to use a primer on my face and eyes. I carry a compact, a couple of cotton swabs and my lipstick.
I layer powder color over cream colors, like cream blush and cream eye shadow.
I’ll actually bother to use primer, and I’ll use a BB cream under my usual dusting of powder foundation (both YSL, as it happens). Same goes for eyeshadow – I’ll use a primer (or concealer) on the lid, and then a matte shadow under a shimmery one (depending on the brand). I have a couple of eyeliner tricks I like to use too!
For lips, I’ll rub in a stain of something appropriately coloured and bold, like Revlon Fire and Ice for reds, or Benetint for pinks, etc. before I put the lipstick on.
Facial and eyeshadow primer. I lovea matte makeup look.
Since my makeup needs to last through my workday and into the evenings, I feel like my normal routine is to apply long-lasting makeup. I always start with face and eye primer. Some of the products I use and work for me are: EL Double Wear Light foundation, Coty Airspun loose powder, Urban Decay eyeshadow, and Clinique Lash Power mascara or Blinc mascara. I’ve flown from San Francisco to Germany nonstop and have arrived with my makeup still on and looking decent!
I’ve never thought to try the Clinique Lash Power mascara. It seems to have gotten good reviews elsewhere so I think I will give it a try. Thank you!
use liquid foundation lol, i normally use mineral powder because of my gigantic pores, its simple & quick
