2014 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - Top Picks in Beauty

Kiehl's Creme de Corps Set Dior Fusion Monos LORAC Skinny Palettes Jo Malone Cologne Set Chanel Dentelle Precieuse Butter London Nail Set

My Top Picks

  1. Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Set — a serious go-to for intensely hydrating body lotion that never feels greasy or heavy, and I love that it’s unscented
  2. Dior Diorshow Fusion Monos — one of my favorite cream eyeshadow formulas!
  3. LORAC Skinny Palettes — seems hard to go wrong for $15!
  4. Jo Malone Cologne Set — I love mini sets, especially for fragrance so you can play with multiple scents without buying full bottles
  5. Chanel Dentelle Precieuse — delicately designed, hopeful it’s a top tier highlighter
  6. Butter London Funfair Fashion Set — love this formula so a value-packed set is always a good thing!

Are you tempted by any of the Beauty Exclusives this year? Did you already indulge?
I think I’m set 🙂 Three beauty-related orders for various things to review (hopefully!) and then one for things for me. Now I need to run away from the sale, haha!

I keep trying to talk myself out of that Jo Malone set. Not sure I’m glad you included it in your picks! Now I want it more? Dior shadows but not the lipsticks? Interesting. Thanks for adding your picks. That Chanel is tempting but so pricey. And while I adore Chanel I find the offering spotty lately. Love some…others are under pigmented even for me (who loves sheer)!

The Anniversary Sale is also my birthday haul. My beauty purchase included the Jo Malone perfume set, the Nars Dolce Vita lipstick/nail polish set, the Clarins double sized Moisture Rich Body Lotion, and the Deborah Lippman Recipe For Love nail polish set. In the non sale purchase I bought Dior rose lip balm, Chanel Les Beiges powder, Mac Pro Longwear e/s Uninterrupted and Make Your Mark, Violetta lipstick, Laura Mercier Burnished Bronze and Steel caviar stick and her Custom Artist portfolio for traveling. I ordered some things as well. That Chanel powder is very beautiful in pan and swatched a champagne color on me (NC 50). I think its a beautiful highlighter for numerous complexions including dark skinned women like me. The salesclerks said you get double points today and Friday. Happy shopping everyone!

I think I’m VERY particular about my body scents… I find a lot of them to be off-putting after a few hours. I love some B&BW scents for the first hour or so, but then by the end of the day, I loathe what they transition into! So, that whole unscented thing pans out for me, lol!

Christine and others, I’m wondering if you recommend the MAC “Basic” brush set for a newbie. I know that people love the MAC brushes in general and especially 239, but are the SE versions the same, and is the (seemingly amazing) deal worth it?

Debra Avatar

Thank you Christine! I was going to purchase the Basic set but now have taken it off the list. The $$$ will go toward a perfume I’m eyeing.

I woke up anticipating ordering something! I wanted the GWP from Lancome since it comes with a bronze palette, so I got the Lancôme ‘French Riviera – Azur Chic’ Eyeshadow Palette. It looks so pretty! I also got the Jo Malone mini set.

Just got back from my local Nordstrom and grabbed one of the LORAC skinny palettes. The one I got is “Nude” (because I need another nude palette like I need a hole in the head!). The back of the box says it comes in 3 colors: Nude, Navy, and Plum. Navy looked too cool-toned for my taste, but sadly they did not have Plum in my local store. Might have wanted that one too.

I ordered the Chanel highlighter over the phone with the Nordies down in Orlando. It better be a hit because I’d certainly hate to return it. $80 has to be the most I’ve spent on a highlighter.

ALWAYS HAS TO HAPPEN AFTER I BOUGHT THINGS.. >!<

Ps. Christine, I read that prescriptions have helped your skin. Could you please go into detail about what you were/are going through and the things you've tried, results, and what's currently happening to help? My skin is seriously depressing me. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks, -Lotus xo

Hi Lotus!

I use Differin and clindamycin (topical antibiotic), and that’s it. Differin helped get rid of all the little milia I had going on, and then the topical antibiotic cleared up the remaining cystic acne I was getting around my chin. I’m not 100% acne-free 24/7, but it’s pretty rare now, and it’ll just be a very small one. That’s all I’ve tried – my primary care doctor prescribed them to me. I’ve used skincare from $10 to $800 over time, and very few seemed to make a difference to my acne in a real, long-term way (and never to the degree that the RXs have). Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion/Buffering Lotion are great for dealing with acne when you get it (so more as spot treatments).

Got my eye on the Laura Merciers rose gold themed Flawless Expressions set. I really like that it includes a cavier stick, lipgloss and full sized mascara.I like the MAC look in a box in Coral, the lipstick and lip glass are very pretty. That Butter London set looks good too.

I’m considering the NARS blush quad, but only because I want Devotee. However, the pan looks like it’ll be teeny, and I have Laguna & Orgasm (which is why I passed on the trio from Sephora). I wish it would be released on its own, and I have a feeling it will for the Holidays…

In past years, I purchases the LM and BB offerings– sight unseen. This year, Im quite underwhelmed by both of them. I notice that there is no Kate Somerville set, which I miss. I guess I will be saving money during the anniversary sale this year!

P.J., check your Nordstrom again on the Kate Somerville because when I was in store yesterday I remember seeing a beauty exclusive–I can’t rememer what was in it but I believe it was $98 with a value of $191 or so.
