Which era do you take most inspiration from?
Which era do you take most inspiration from? Do you end up incorporating them into your routine or stick with what has worked for you in the past?
I don’t think there’s a past era that really resonates with me, actually!
Thanks to Elana for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.
’20’s and ’40’s
Most definitely the era of Woodstock. It encompasses basically everything that harvested further roots in music and freedom for creative expression. 🙂 (Anything goes) <3
Oh, whoops! I forgot the rest of the question again! Do I incorporate anything from them? I relate to so many eras, lovingly so, that I’m sure they’ve inspired me to become inspired. That, in itself, is my daily routine. <3 Whatever era it may be. 🙂 I'm free. 😀
40s/50s I LOVE pin-up/rockabilly hair and makeup and I ALWAYS need a cat-eye.
I take a lot if inspiration from the 90s. I love where fashion and rock were in this era. I live for dark and messy grungy eyes!
I tend to like goth-style makeup, especially dark vampy lips. But as far as time-wise, probably the 90’s. I love the whole grunge style and the dark brown lipsticks. Brown/plum lipsticks suit my coloring though.
The 90’s, no question! 😀
Love everything about the 50’s and 60’s fashion and hair styles.
Hmmmmmmmm, definitely the 60’s 😀 but I also love smokey eyes and tho I could say 90’s too, those were only messy, and I like both very smudged and precise smokey eyes.
1920s Old Hollywood-1960s Mod style… then something happened and style started to scare me a bit. Oh the 80s.
I don’t know that I usually take much from one particular era, it definitely depends on the occasion, day, outfit, how i’m feeling, etc. BUT, I do really love the looks of the 20’s/30’s flappers and party go-ers, and of course the grunginess and browns of the 90’s, when I really started wearing makeup regularily. Some of that will always stick with me:) My very first copy of Elle, from September 1993 is safely stashed in my craft room!
(I still own Revlon Toast of New York, which was HUGE for my friends and I at that time LOL)
Hmm..well I feel at heart I have always been an 80’s girl. And now with the short spiky do, I guess I am somewhat retracing my steps. Oh god, as long as I do not start looking like I never moved from the era.. (◐.̃◐)
The fifties had such cool, clean looks! Also inspired by Regency looks — powder, pink cheeks and lips. I love looking to history for inspiration!
I suppose the 1950s. I usually go for natural look with lots of lashes, bold winged liner and bold lip
Probably the 1950s. There’s nothing I love more than a winged liner and a bold red lip!
I love the 70’s. Afro puffs, white eyeliners, psychedelic prints, bright makeup, bell bottoms. Awesome decade.
I most often reference the 1940s, if I’m going to reference a decade.
I love the soft matte cat eye (my everyday look), and vintage hairstyles of the 1950s/1960s.
No matter what I do/wear, or how “conservative” I try to look, there is *always* the hint of the little 80s goth girl I happened to be when I began wearing makeup…
I read your post and burst out laughing.. ditto, Amy 😀
Definitely 90s. I’m all about matte, brownish, dark lip colors and smokey eye looks. I usually take heavy 90s influences with some more modern styles, like pairing a “90s” lip with a more shimmery eyeshadow and dewy/highlighted cheeks instead of full-on matte face.
I’ve always been very fond of the 40/50s bombshell look with the winged liner and bold lipstick, and it’s generally my go-to look. My style in general tends to be a bit retro with the wider skirts and prim, lined dresses. 🙂 While I don’t do it as often, I also really like the sultry, rebellious tones of 20s flapper girls.
I love the 40’s style as well, but it’s so hard to find clothing that isn’t so expensive. The makeup is flaw-free.
70’s with earth tones, eyeliner, browbone highlights, long natural hair. Perfumes with lots of citrus, green notes, rose, jasmines, and leather in perfumes (Chanel 19, Cristalle, Rive Gauche, Calandre, Metal, Alliage, Azuree, Aramis, Miss Dior, Diorella, and more). Revlon Toast of NY is a classic. I wore it in the70s, I wore it this week. Browns are super flattering to warm skintones. Now I’m doing the matte brown all over the lid with no browbone highlight, with or without eyeliner, which I a great look with white or black clothing. Beautiful long hair will never go out of style.
The 20’s, flapper style. Love all those glam looks.
I have always loved the late fifties/early sixties. I don’t care about too much after 1967. This goes for music as well as fashion and design.
My inspiration used to be the 80’s. Now that I can’t pull those looks off at 51, I now look to the 20’s for inspiration. The natural look suits me better now, and the 20’s sported a new freedom for women, and that’s when the red lips were really popular as well as defined eyes. I can still pull off red lips, and the neutral but polished look suits me better now.
The 40’s and ’50s! Although I really love the current soft, natural and pretty makeup style!
Late fifties, early sixties. I want to vacation in 1959 basically.
I’ve really been into the 40’s style makeup lately. Pinup style, which is so simple, but can easily be spiced up, and it just looks so clean and glam. Dita Von Tesse is a huge inspiration.
I like to take a little bit from all sorts of eras – so contemporary, I suppose! In terms of my ‘everyday’ look, I don’t think it really comes from a specific era, but I do like trying a specific look now and then that *does* come from specific era.
Definitely the 40’s! It’s such a feminine, flattering and elegant look.
1920s and onwards to today. It all depends on my mood, what clothes I’m wearing and what I’m going to be doing during the day.
Hmmm. I’d say all of them, actually, anything and everything, though everything after the 20s seems to be easier to draw inspiration from, naturally.
I think I like to draw inspiration from other eras, but I want to keep my look current, if that makes sense. I’ll go for the general idea, but I don’t like looking obvious.
My answer has changed throughout the years, but at this point in my life, definitely the 90s! I am quite happy to see a lot of it come back in fashion, as well.
Definitely the 20s, 50s and 60s. I usually dress like a modern version of a 50’s housewife! I suppose 50s inspired is more accurate. I love mod makeup and the 60s cat eye, I wear it often. The 20’s look is more dramatic, so I do it on ocassion and more regularly during the fall. Sam Chapman from Pixiwoo did this WONDERFUL tutorial on DailyMix channel which is my fave 20s look! Gorgeous! I love art deco jewelry too. and use them as statement pieces (on non 50s wardrobe days! Teh clash.).
I take inspiration from a lot of different eras including 20s-60s, 90s and 18th century France ala Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette! 🙂
for everyday, its the 60s and/or 70s. For special occasions its the 20s and/or 30s. I love all that glamour!!
For makeup, I love the 1920s for the smokiness and I love the 1960s for the bold mod styles! 🙂 For some reason I always end up paying attention to the makeup on Star Trek, haha.
The 80s. I love bold, bright colors. And colors that were fashionable in the 80s, like fuchsia pink, violet, and bright blue, flatter my pale skin. Oh and in the 80s girls did not hesitate to wear “visible” blusher, and I like that, too.
So I definitely incorporate some 80s inspiration in my everyday make-up ; but certainly not the “full” look (which would be WAY too much). I would wear some bright blue on my eyes, or some bright pink on my cheeks, or a crazy violet lipstick. Certainly not several of these at the same time, but the 80s eyes OR the 80s lips OR the 80s cheeks make me feel confident and I feel that I express the fun and slightly ironic part in me.
BUT as for the hair, I am not inspired by the 80s at all 🙂
Oh and I like the 18th century too, with the pale skin and pink cheeks ideal.
