Bobbi Brown Earth Metal Lip & Eye Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Bobbi Brown Earth Metal Lip & Eye Palette ($60.00) is a new, limited edition holiday palette from Bobbi Brown’s Holiday Collection, which also features a Velvet Plum Eye Palette, Glitter Lip Balm Palette, and Chrome Eyeshadows (I mentioned those last week–love them!!).

For Eyes

  • Autumn Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow is a slightly green-tinged golden brown with shimmer.
  • Earth Metal Metallic Eyeshadow is a plummy brown with shimmer.
  • Zinc Metallic Eyeshadow is a light taupe brown with kind of a silver sheen. This shade wasn’t quite as pigmented as the others (it was just so-so).
  • Black Spruce Metallic Eyeshadow is a dark forest green with metallic shimmer.
  • Sunset Gold Metallic Eyeshadow is a pale, light melon-y gold with light shimmer. Like Zinc, it wasn’t as pigmented the majority of the eyeshadows.
  • Antique Gold Metallic Eyeshadow is a coppery bronze with a metallic sheen. (It doesn’t look like antique gold to me!)

For Lips

  • Paisely Rose Creamy Lip Color is a pale, peachy pink.
  • Rose Garden Creamy Lip Color is a light medium yellow pink.
  • Rose Bud Creamy Lip Color is a plummy-pink.
  • Barefoot Shimmer Creamy Lip Color is a shimmery peach-brown.

First, as some of you know, I’m not of a fan of lip palettes. As such, I probably wouldn’t purchase this palette, just because I don’t extract any value out of the lip palette portion. I don’t think the eyeshadows are so stunning as to warrant the price tag ($60) by themselves, either. (I’d rather splurge on the Chrome Eyeshadows instead!) The lip colors, as in most lip palettes, are very sheer and don’t do much on my lips. They all kind of look the same, so this isn’t a lip palette designed to change my mind on how I feel about lip palettes in general.

I like the eyeshadows, because they’re definitely my kind of colors – earthy, metallic, and lots of gold thrown in. All of the eyeshadows felt very smooth and had a metallic look to them, and I only found pigmentation problems in two (Zinc and Sunset Gold), but the problems were minor – they just weren’t as pigmented as the majority of the palette, but there was still plenty of color pay off. I think this palette is actually a really good mix of shades that go together easily, and there’s just not much fuss when you use these.

Bottom Line: If you like the lip palette portion, I think this is a great buy. If you’re more like me and have no use for lip palettes, this is more of a skip item. I just can’t get with a palette knowing I’m not going to use half of it and still paying the full price for it, you know? I really wish they made these shades available separately or split the palette in half!

  • Product: 24/30
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

Recommendation:  I would rather just be able to purchase the eyeshadow portion of the palette as a set over the lip and eye combination.  If you like both sides, I definitely think it’s a good buy in that instance!

I love Bobbi’s concept but the delivery in her products just isn’t there for me. I used all BB products a couple of years ago and it’s very expensive and never gave me the look I was after. They are high quality, I’ll give her that. But no pigmentation really, and $20 per e/s is steep if you want more than three or four colors. Her skin care products are pretty good, expensive again, but nice.

You know, the problem I see with the lip colors (in swatches, anyway) is not that they are sheer – it’s that they’re boring! Those are some of the most conventional, uninventive lip colors I’ve ever seen. Some of the shadows are nice, especially the last one, but this is always my problem with Bobbi Brown…the prices are fairly high but nothing is original. It’s all very basic, very neutral, and everything seems to look the same to my eye.

I’m not sure whether I want this or not. It’s very expensive (£48 in the UK which is more like $80 actually!) and I’m not sure I’d wear the colours much. It looks very nice though and if I find it on eBay for more like $60 I might buy it. But I am way more tempted to get Bobbi’s new chrome palette which has 10 eyeshadows and they’re more blueish/greyish, so definitely more of the colours that I wear. I also love the new glitter balm palette, but again it’s very expensive here. 🙁

I was at my local Bobbi Brown counter the other day and got to play around with this palette. It is nice but I wasn’t blown away by it; probably because I have many similar colours.

Jenny Avatar

It’s too expensive and the colors aren’t that unique. I wonder if the chrome palette with the similar setup but more expensive will be better.

I bought it when lord and taylor have a 15%off event. so i was able to get it at 51 dollars or some around that. I wasn’t too impress by it so far. I mean it’s good and all,but i can just get the same colors with my coastal scent 88 palette with a fraction of a price.the lips color are very sheer, you have to keep applying a couple coats to get the color on…. I think the packaging is sleek, high quality, but this is not for me.

I’ve been so into green shimmer and duo-chrome and Black Spruce looks like a beautiful new option. Hopefully it’ll be available outside of the palette because I am with you on the lip palette gripes. I don’t know anyone that is a fan of them!

I share Bobbi Brown’s view on makeup and beauty and so for me this palette is fantastic. I purchased it as soon as it came out and am very satisfied with it.

Brenda Avatar

The look you did with this palette was fantastic, however like a few others mentioned, I’m sure I have a similar e/s to everyone of them. They feel pretty “dupe-able”.

Susan Avatar

Bobbi IS expensive, but they are beautiful and do not ever look dated as the trend goes out. This palette and the chrome palette (got that too) are GORGEOUS, high quality and wearable.

I love love love the eyeshadows in the palette, yet I do hate a eye + lip palette. why can’t bb have separate palette? this palette is by far my most wanted in xmas 2009…but I guess I’ll have to pass it.

i think this palette give more variation then the chrome palette. although i have to admit, i’m tempted to buy just because of the limited edition tag… i’m “limited-edition” minded.. if that make sense.. ^^ Thanks christine, this blog is always helping me not to buy super unnecessary stuff that r pricy like this one.. ^^
