Do you add to your existing day time look to go out in the evening?

Do you add to your existing day time look to go out in the evening? Or do you start fresh? Wear whatever you were wearing before?

If I have only a little time (or I wasn’t at home), I would touch-up, reapply lip color, etc. if I’ve really been wearing the day time look all day. If I have a TON of time, then I would start fresh.

I always start over, even if it means my final look is minimal. Also, when I go out for an evening, having a specific time usually isn’t an issue, so if I need an extra 30 minutes, it really doesn’t matter.

It depends. During the week I always remove my makeup as soon as I get home in the afternoons, so I’d have to start over. On the weekend I usually won’t even put makeup on until the afternoon, if I decide to wear any at all, in which case I’d most likely just build on that.

I always do it all over again, even my foundation, if ive been wearing it since 9 am until 5 pm, i dont think it will look nice at 3 am when im out partying, not to say my eye makeup would look even worse!

I pretty much have to start fresh – knowing me, I’ll be trying to touch up, and totally ruin something anyway, so that I have to start over in any case! 😀

I like completely changing up a look too.

If I don’t have time, then I’ll touch up my powder, smoosh out any creases that might have formed in my eyeshadow (hopefully not, but you can never guarantee), replace my lipstick and go!

It depends. Usually I can just retouch my eyeshadow and blot my skin and I’m good to go. In the hotter weather my face looks and feels like such a greasy oil slick that I can’t wait to wash everything off and start over.

Yes I do and it’s something I look forward to if we’re going out, even for just coffee or a movie. That’s the time where I feel I can go a bit more “extreme” in my makeup and wear colours I wouldn’t necessarily want to wear in the day-time or don’t have time to use in the early morning, when I’m getting ready for work.

Time is rarely an issue, but still, I would not usually start over. I might change my lipcolor, add more mascara and bust out a highlighter(and not be timid about using it).

Depends on what is being worn. If the outfit is cooler/warmer/clashes with the LOTD, then change it up, from the beginning. Otherwise, touch up, usually w/ new concealer/coverup/ L/S/ face color. Also depends on the place. An ‘event’ might warrant add-on of pigment, glitter liner, etc. If natural + polished is indicated, minimal contouring. The clothes + the setting are the drivers of the look, with a nod to time involved. Do you resonate with this approach? You must be, like me, ‘of a certain age…..’

I start my job at 7 a.m. and often need makeup to go the distance, through dinner out and into the evening. So I mostly make sure I do the whole primer/eye primer-foundation-fixing spray routine, to eliminate the need to repair face makeup. I will often apply black or dark brown eyeliner to my upper waterline and fix or change up my lipstick before I go out – I find lips are the easiest thing to do in the least amount of time, and the eyeliner adds something without really looking like WHAM EYELINER.

If I have a lot of time between work and an evening out, generally I’ll get a workout in and be able to start completely fresh, but this is rare and precious!

I tend to take EVERYTHING off and start from scratch.. and yes I do tend to run late lol, why do you ask?? Sometimes, not very often, I’ll just add to what I’m already wearing, and funnily enough sometimes I have the most fun when I just go casual.

zainab Avatar

I will if I’m extremely pressed for time, but I loathe doing so. Any foundation I’ve been wearing for more than five or six hours won’t be looking too good.

Depends what my original look was. If I had on the base of a good purple smokley eye, I’ll touch it up and take it the rest of the way there. More likely though, I’ll just start fresh.

Kate Avatar

On the rare occasions I do get to go out it is just an evening add on and touch up to may day wear. With young kids there is little time for such luxuries as time!

Danielle Avatar

If I have time, I will usually I will add a darker eyeshadow to the outer v and smudge it under the lashline. Re-curl my lashes and touch up my lipcolor

Gen M Avatar

I don’t typically start over. Though I might use my eye look as a base and pretty much revamp it. If I don’t have time, just lips, a swipe of powder, and a spritz of fragrance.

Karen Avatar

Going straight from work I would only add on unless my foundation was really melted. If I had enough time I would probably redo at least that then add to the eyes.

Nikki Avatar

If I had the time and opportunity, I’d start fresh. But in a time crunch, I would just add some eyeliner, reapply my blush, and re-apply or switch out my lip color.

Vanessa Avatar

I’m surprised by the answers 🙂

I almost never start over, but I don’t usually wear face makeup. I would just freshen what I have, and maybe intensify the products and add more drama.

Eileen Avatar

I start fresh whenever possible. In addition to looking better, taking the time to apply fresh makeup provides a nice break. I like that bit of down time between the day’s and night’s activities.

Samantha Avatar

It would depend on where I was going. It I were going to a play or dinner, I would start fresh. If I were going to class after work or a casual dining restaurant, I would touch up.

Laura_Lou Avatar

If I have got lots of time (and I’m at home) I would definitely start over. If I’ve not got much time then I would just touch up my base and try to vamp up my eyes or lips a bit. I usually wear quite minimal makeup during the day for work but I keep my makeup bag in my handbag and I have a small Z palette with a few eyeshadows so I can quickly do a more smokey eye and I usually have a hot pink/red lippie in there incase I’m going out.

Alison Avatar

I mostly try to refresh what I was wearing before, and perhaps add a little more emphasis on the eyes. I really only do big evening looks when I have the time!
