Are you a one-brand kind of person? Or do you like to have a little bit of everything under the sun? Do you stick with one brand for makeup, but another for skincare?

I go where the inspiration takes me, although I tend to stick with Neutrogena for skincare because I trust them (and their Anti-Stress acne line is my new go-to for when I start breaking out). As for makeup, I have my mascara, which is the Cover Girl VolumeExact, and then the rest is kind of up in the air.

Kate Avatar

Their 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment is awesome if you have a specific area that tends to break out and don’t want dry patches. I use it on my forehead all the time!

MAC for cosmetics, Dermalogica and Clarins for skincare. I also like Benefit for a mix of both.
I suppose my essential products would be, respectively, the Fibre Lash mascara and Studio Fix liquid foundation; Medicated Clearing Gel and Anti-Bac Cleanser; and Honey, Snap Out of It! face scrub, plus the gorgeous Bathina/Maybe Baby lines. Not forgetting my MAC Lilacrush Lipgelee 🙂

Boy, keeping me pretty is an expensive habit!

A little bit of everything for make up – although I particularly love Urban Decay, MAC and Too Faced
BodyShop for skin care – my saviour! ;o)

Briodmun Avatar

No way, I will try a little bit of everything. After all, that is what makes your own cosmetic collection your own, not exactly the same as someone elses!

Not at all, I don’t follow one brand only, I have products of various brands, and some non branded stuff too. I mainly go by ingredients and how it feels on my skin, so I’m not too keen on branded stuff.

Nell Avatar

I´m more of a “one brand at a time” kind of girl.
I go through phases where I´m very enamoured with one particular brand, then my loyalty shifts to another.
I´ve been heavily into NARS, Bobbi Brown, Clinique and Chanel. But my MAC phase is the longest and most intense ever. I may well be stuck on it for life!
With skincare though, I try to use the best out there regardless of brand, I only go with ingredients there.

Hey Cristine,

For makeups MAC or other gud brand and for lashes Cover Girl Volume Exact its the best.

For skincare also it may change brand wise,i mostly focus on Gud brands, which goes out on my skin type.

I prefer MAC and drugstore brands(Rimmel, Loreal HIP, and Covergirl). For skincare, I get my things everywhere from Lush to whatever looks good in Target.

dee Avatar

Rimmel and Covergirl for mascara. HIP for lipglosses and the one blush I own. It’s never that difficult for me because I usually have an idea of a certain product or color I want. It’s when I’m just exploring that it can become all too much, added with the fact you can’t try anything on.

I love variety so I like to try different things time to time if it catches my eye.Everything is branded- non department to department.I have a variety of both because the non department might be better than department depending on what it is.I have brands up to MAC, Iman, Covergirl, Maybelline, Just got into Bobbi Brown and a little bit of Chanel.

I recently started using MAC (when I started with a makeup artist course) and I am loving it! I spent over 3,000 on MAC products already (in about 6 weeks…). I also love Shu Uemura products, they are of good quality as well. For my skin I use super aqua by Guerlain.

gracee Avatar

i really love MAC TOO FACED AND URBAN DECAY. So the majority of my collection are those brands. that being said I have a list of different brands and what I want to try of their (ex. Sugar: Bronzer, NARS: Blush, Eye Shadow Duo, THEBALM: Lip Gloss, eye shadow, Brushes) So I keep that in mind when I go to sephora that I want a little of everything and maybe the “best” products from each line.

Cosine Avatar

I buy like everything because there is definately something to offer from every brand but MAC takes up about 80% where my make-up are concerned. However where skincare is concerned, I have absolutely nothing from MAC… unless lip balm is considered part of skincare… but then again, the lip balm is tinted as well so it doubles as a lip colour.

Is there any thing good from MAC where skincare is concerned though? I’m thinking of trying those charged waters but I’m not too sure about their function…

Mari Avatar

Well I had a variety of make-up until last year when I was re-introduced to MAC by my cousin! I had not been into a MAC store since 2003!!! Boy did I miss out on ALOT!!! I just started adding to my collection since 7/07!! Let’s just say my bank account has gone down DRASTICALLY!!! 95% is MAC, the other 5% is Loreal HIP, Estee Lauder mascara & Cover Girl.
Does anyone know of a GOOD anti-wrinkle craam? I am in my 30’s (gulp!) and need to start prepping my face for the “unexpected”!

Mari Avatar

You know what? I have tried her serum (the pinky one)and DO like it! It keeps my skin soft! Thank you, I will make sure to stop at Bath & Body this week-end! 😀

Tanya Avatar

actually there was a study done a year or two ago, I think it might have been consumer reports and they tested lower end brands vs the pricy high end stuff and the winner was Avon’s Anew…who would have thought it…but it got the highest rating of all the brands tested…I dont remember what the other brands were but the Anew name stuck in my head as the winner…..and it won by landslide.

Now to answer the question posted – I am totally brand loyal – Mac for make-up, OPI for nails, Eminence for skin and just recently I fell in love with one specific product from Murad. Perfumes, lotions, soaps, shampoo, sunscreen – I will try most anything but I am big fan of LUSH.

Mari Avatar

Isn’t that crazy? Well I was prego a year later w/twins and adding 2 to the mix, well let’s just say I had my hands full w/three kids!! But I am back in full force with the “mac addiction”! I just ache when I think of ALL the awesome quads I missed out on! (sniff sniff)

Amy Avatar

I tend to have a bit of everything. I like to read reviews and check out InStyle and Allure’s “best of” lists. I take note of products mentioned in artiles in mags and online.

Right now, I’m in between skincare, but am going to start using Neutrogena Anti-blemish Anti-wrinkle cream, as I have acne and am finding facial lines at the same time! (GACK!)

I like Biore’s oil-free/oil absorbing SPF moistruizer.

I love the Philosophy microdermabrasion kit. I’ve really noticed a difference since starting to use it.

As for makeup, I like Mary Kay eye shadows, Cover Girl lipsticks (good staying power), Revlon (best cheap foundation I’ve found). . . as for the high end, I like Bobbi Brown, Smashbox, and Benefit. I’m interested in Laura Mercier, MAC, and Urban Decay, but don’t have a ton of extra cash right now to go and try them all out! LOL!

Shefali Avatar

I try everything, especially when it comes to skincare. I change it up all the time because my skin gets used to things and those things stop working. I use Glamour, Allure, Lucky magazine, and beauty blogs for reviews on new products.

As far as make-up though – I went MAC and have never really gone back. I’ve got a few things from Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy, and Lancome. Benefit is another line I love for skincare and make-up fake-its, not really for colors (although when they come out with palettes, they are always good). I’ve also been into NARS lately. Unfortunately I can’t afford to haul NARS like I can MAC. I think I need to check out Stila and Urban Decay more – everyone here seems to think they are good brands.

Christine Avatar

Isn’t that frustrating? Skincare is a pain in the behind to find a good regimen, and then your skin goes and gets used to it, so you have to find a whole new regimen!

I agree that MAC’s prices, even though higher than drugstore, are still cheaper than a lot of other high end brands. I already cringe at buying a MAC blush, let alone a NARS one!

Ariele Avatar

Well the majority of my stash is MAC (shadows, paint pots, pigments, cheek products, lippies)… but I do delve into other brands as well. Some of my runner-up faces are Stila, NARS, Too Faced, Tarte & Laura Mercier. I prefer Everyday Minerals foundation (but trust me, I’ve tried 2034898943590 different kinds & I probably will continue to do so). For cleansers, I usually stick to drugstore brands like Aveeno & Olay, but I’m open to most. Moisturizer – I love MACs Moisturelush, but also Clinique’s DDML & Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar. I have really dry skin so anything that gives me a super moisture without looking greasy I am up for.

Christine Avatar

That’s like me these days, Ariele! I’m so blessed with this blog, because now I’m a fan of so many brands and can mix it up every so often. MAC will always be my first love, but there is life outside of MAC.

I’m down with the super moisturizers!!

Leigh Avatar

I use Eau Roma Water (although I just ordered Breath Of Fresh Air so we’ll see how it goes), Celestial (LOVE the smell!), Angels On Bare Skin in the morning, and Ultra Bland at night. I have such problematic facial skin so I need a kajillion products, but they work so hey I’m not complaining 😛

PS I found out about LUSH through you, so thanks!

Katherine Avatar

I’m all over the cosmetic map! I don’t think there is a brand I haven’t tried. However, I do have favorites in various lines that I’m always looking for new colors in.

Jennifer Avatar

I’m a die hard Elizabeth Arden fan when it comes to skincare. My mom’s been using it for 45 years, I ‘ve been using it on and off for 15 yrs, and my grandmother used it too! I even work for them now. I do use the Wipes and Charged Water from MAC, though.

I’ve always been pretty loyal to MAC for makeup but I dip into Dior, Guerlain or Chanel now and then. I’ll try something new if there is a GWP as well. I love pink, so I’m drawn to it regardless of brand (Dior Flower Blossom-to die for!)

When you work in cosmetics, you’re exposed to everything new, so its hard not to try everything at least once! I find that MAC usually has something similar to another brand and it’s cheaper than say Dior, so thats what I usually stick with. I’m so exited b/c I’m getting the MAC Pro discount so MAC here I come!

Stacey Avatar

Yeah.. I only wear MAC. Mostly because they have such a huge range of colours and finishes that I don’t feel I need to go anywhere else. MAC is more of a high end brand here, but Dior etc is REALLY expensive. MAC is where I had my make up done for my formal (prom) in my last year of high school and I have been hooked ever since!

Sandy Avatar

for makeup, I have mostly MAC stuff but I also like Stila, Too Faced and Lancome.
For body products I’m all over the map. I mostly use Body Shop though and have been using it for longest.

Sandy Avatar

I like their eyeshadows (especially this purple palette I have with six differenet purples, I use it every other day). I also love their mascaras (Definicils).

Traacey Avatar

I love the clear complexion facial cleanser. Its very gentle and believe it or not, it gets MAC products off at the end of the day very easily. I like to follow up with the daily facial scrub, the clear complexion correction treatment and clear complexion lotion.

Chloe Avatar

The majority of my products are MAC but I also use Urban Decay, Makeup Forever, NARS, CoverFx, Benefit, Christian Dior, and Lancome (I worked at Sephora, seasonal). For skincare I have Cosmedicine, Caudalie, Dr. Brandt, Philosophy, Kinerase, Peter Thomas Roth, and CLEAN. =D So, I guess I don’t tend to stick to one brand after all!! LOL.

Kira Avatar

I’m allergic to castor bean oil, so I read lots of ingredients lists. Additionally, I do most of my shopping on-line.

My cosmetics tray is full of: Stila, Urban Decay, Vincent Longo, and local drugstore purchases. Those three companies all list the ingredients on their websites, and I can look at packaging in the store.

Sephora has lists for some items, but unless I’m looking for something specific (my recent gel e/l search comes to mind, I really like Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Creamliner) I’m not wasting my time doing a search.

Skincare routine involves less expensive brands with the right ingredients, and plenty of sunscreen.
