I think that brush sets are a great way to start out. They have helped me decide which brushes I’d like to get full-sized versions of, and they are great for travel, but I do think they are not at the same level of quality as the full-sized ones.

Brittany Avatar

Love brush sets. They’re affordable, economical and convenient for travel. They help a noob like me hone my skills and try different application techniques.

Madeleine Avatar

ooo I love brush sets! makes traveling so much easier. Especially when it’s those short size brushes where I can bring it around my handbag or to places where I’m going to for the weekend.

Eunice Avatar

i absolutely love brush sets! they’re always great deals and give you a wide variety of brushes. they’re also always travel sized (perfect!) and they work just as well as the normal sized brushes~

Suzanne Avatar

I like sets because I think they’re cute and a great present! I never buy them though because I can’t really afford them.

I re-tweeted, DeltaCephei is my twitter name.

Samantha Avatar

I think they’re nice for people who are just branching out in the world of brushes to try from different brands and they’re a good value. I still tend to prefer full size brushes but I do have some sets which are good for travel.

Ilaria Avatar

I have only one brush set from Mac. I actually don’t like it as much as I like the standard brushes but it is really useful especially if you’re used to travelling a lot like I have to!

tousledkitten Avatar

I think the MAC brushes are a little over-priced, so the brush sets are a great way to get a few brushes you’ve had your eyes on. I love MAC and need brushes, so I hope I win! 😀 The other good thing about the brushes that come in the sets is that they tend to be a little bit smaller, so they’re great for travel or to take with you in your bag. 🙂

Nicole Avatar

I unfortunately have never bought brushes in sets. I buy them individually. They’re all from different brands. None are by MAC or any expensive brands. I would love to win this giveaway to try a set though. I dont currently own a full set. I’m missing a lot of brushes. I DO, however, know that most brush sets are less expensive than if you were to buy each brush separately. I also know that having the right tools will help applying makeup alot easier & better.

Onna Avatar

I love brush sets… so much cheaper than individual brushes.. i can;t wait to buy some sigma brush sets… hopefully MAC will come out with a holiday brush set this year

Maria Avatar

I actually don’t like brush sets because most of the time the brushes are short handled. I like the full size ones better.

Hinahon Avatar

I like the idea of having a set of brushes…
But unfortunately, they’re too expensive for me. That’s why as for now I own no MAC brushes

lia Avatar

I like brush sets, but only if they have a good variety of types of brushes. I also like the smaller size because they are easy for me to handle.

Love them 🙂 great way to build your brush collection at an affordable price, and you cant go wrong with matching things.

I know there are a lot of people who don’t care much for the MAC holiday brush sets, but personally I think they’re better than drugstore brushes and are so worth the price. I try to buy the brush sets every year as a Christmas gift to myself. I find that they work perfectly fine for whatever I choose to use them for. I also love the packaging and that they are small which makes them great for traveling. I love the brush sets!

Re-tweet done.. twitter: macupbytor

xKiKix Avatar

i think the brush sets are suitable for people who are either on a budget or getting started into collecting mac’s full sized brushes.

kpenn Avatar

My mom has been buying these sets for me since I first started getting interested in makeup. Personally, I love them. I’m not very hard on my brushes, so I find that these are an economical way of building up a great set. I know that they’re machine-made, as opposed to handmade, but I’ve really never felt a significant difference in the quality. The size is amazing for travelling, too, which I do a lot of.

The little bags are so adorable and I always re-use them for sorting my lip products. Plus I love looking back on all of the different fun handle colours and bags – it reminds me of all of the cool holiday collections.

It’s pretty much killing me to not buy any of the sets this year, but I just can’t justify it with all of the other stuff that I want!

RTed: kpenn09

Lo Avatar

I love brush sets, I can’t afford to buy loads of full size brushes, and whilst the quality of some of the brushes may not be quite as high as the full size, i think that they are still very good.

Jennifer r Avatar

If you’re new to the world of makeup, brush sets are awesome. But for those who already have most brushes, I think they’d be a little redundant.

Lingping Avatar

Brush sets are usually super cute and very practical, but a bit scary to buy without having played with them first. It seems special edition brushes are not always as good as the originals.

Ebru Avatar

The brush sets they come out for holidays are nice as gifts but personally all the brushes I own are full size. I invested in a lot for my current brush set but totally well worth it 🙂

CharmedWonder Avatar

Aside from sometimes short handles that hinder your level of control, brush sets are worth the money because of the level of versatility that you get from the various assortments.

Rita Avatar

I don’t have any brush sets, but I’ve seen them in store. I understand that MAC brush sets are not of the same quality as the normal ones. They did feel different. However, I’d like to have a Sigma travel set.

Mel Avatar

I think brush sets are one of the greatest things makeup brands thought of doing. Since brush sets are usually put as value set prices, tts a great way to get to try more then just one brush for a cheaper 🙂

Rachael W Avatar

I love them and have several sets. The only thing I don’t like is there always seems to be 1 brush in there that I have no use for, but overall it’s worth it!

Kate M. Avatar

Ooh am I the first??

I think that brush sets are good deals BUT sometimes the quality can be lacking…of course I did absolutely lust after Lancome’s Cobalt brush set from Nordies Anniversary sale this summer…

Thanks for the giveaway!!

dedra williams(maclove1) Avatar

i think brush sets are a waiste of money if you have brush sets already becouse mac only changes the case not the brushes .and the brushes are lower quality then the full ones .so i fill it’s a waiste of money but i have one and i still use them.

georgina Avatar

Hi i want to get in the contest, i have read Temtalia like a year a go, but never leave comments, oh the questions about what do i think about the brush sets? WELL I KINDA LIKE THEM A LOT , OF COURSE IS NOT THE SAME QUALITY AS THE OTHER BRUSHES BUT FOR ME THAT IM NOT A MAKE UP ARTIST I CAN SURVIVE REALLY WELL WITH ONE BRUSH SET AND CARRY IT EVERY WHERE I GOT, RECENTLY I BOUGHT ONE OF BENEFIT AND IM LOVING IT , 4 BRUSHES , BLUSH ONE, BLENDING, SHADING, AND EYEBROW AND ITS ALL I NEED.

Stephanie Avatar

I actually think that brush sets are amazingly useful! They helped me a lot when I started out with wearing makeup and experimenting with different styles and colours, before I had the money to buy loose brushes or the knowlegde of which brushes I’d need or like the most.

Even now I think they are amazing for example when you are going on vacation, you have everything you need right there. ^^

Anyway, that’s my opinion on brush sets!

Jenna Avatar

I think the brush sets are great for beginners! But I like all my full size brushes way better than the ones that come in the sets! Thanks!

MAC_lovincarter Avatar

Brush sets are awesome deals!! They are great for beginners because it allows you a set of brushes for a specific purpose usually at a discounted price. When your just starting out you arent exactly sure which brushes you need and which ones you can skimp on. The good thing about MAC is that they usually have a face set, eyes, and etc so that you know what brushes you need to achieve a certain look!! I love the travel set of brushes MAC counters in Nordstrom stores had earlier year and I hope they re-relaease them.

Cozy Avatar

I generally like brush sets. They give you a couple little brushes you need/like and then more brushes that you may not have ever tried or considered using! 🙂

shangrila Avatar

i think brush sets are good when they’re in travel size form. i used to carry around my full sized brushes, and that took up so much space in my purse. i like mini sized ones for that reason.

Iris Ginette Avatar

I think brush sets are very important. Brushes to me are the key from making a look go from ok to fabulous. It is the silent warrior in the makeup world. I feel that if you have the right brush set everything else will work. I love them and I think it is a vital piece of the makeup wardrobe.

Marta Fernandes Avatar

Brush sets are a great way to save some money but sometimes, as is the case with MAC, that means the brushes are of lower quality. And of course there’s always the possibility that one already owns some of the brushes included in the set.

My twitter name is Andromeda18_

Amy Avatar

I love them! Even though I only have one brush set from mac lol, but its a great deal for 5 brushes, and mine are so soft just like the full sized ones. Wow, this collection is amazing!

LaDonna Avatar

What do I think about brush sets?

I’ve never actually bought a set of brushes to buy a set of brushes. I’ve bought sets which included brushes and then individual brushes but I WILL say this – I very much regret not purchasing the brush sets that came with the Graphic Garden collection.

It seems that the brushes that come like that are cheaper!

Sara Avatar

I like brush sets for travel. They are easier to bring along. I prefer my full size ones for home use, though. Thanks for the chance to win! Twitter: sbrn78

Cindy Avatar

I love MAC’s brush sets, because it’s a cheaper way to try some brushes. When i like a brush, i can buy it later in full size.

Twitter: Cindyyyyyyyy

Amanda Sun Avatar

I actually bought the both of the MAC Graphic Garden brush sets this year – I don’t think the difference in quality (and there is a slight difference especially for the bigger brushes) really matters in application. Ultimately it’s the way the user wields the brush that matters the most! Also, the shorter length of the brush handles makes the brushes from sets much easier to carry around in a make-up bag or purse.

Twitter: amandasunly

Miss_Silk Avatar

In a brush set, sometimes I get 1 brush that I really needed or wanted…and the others aren’t want I was looking for. so that’s kind of a downfall for me..

But Brush sets, are usually a bit cheaper than buying each one individually….depending on what brand you purchase from.

So I can’t really complain, I mean you get more than 1 brush at one time ^^

Elissa Avatar

I have mixed feelings about brush sets. I have purchased a few and some of them are great, while others have been awful. I do think that MAC’s sets have gotten better over the past few years. I think they are a really good value and very convienient for traveling so that outweighs the negatives for me. I do prefer my full sized brushes though, if I had to choose 🙂

Becca Avatar

I’ve only owned one brush set; it was a purple set that I dont remember what collection it was from. I absolutely loved it!! Last year however when I was in Los Angeles for vacation I somehow forgot it there. I dont own any of the full sized MAC brushes (yet) so I can’t compare. I know I’ve heard quite often that the sets are horrible compared to the full sized individuals; but honestly I thought my set was amazing. They were all soft, no scratchy bristles, no real shedding. I LOVE BRUSH SETS! I’ve been watching my cco for them to get in a few more so I can purchase one for travel and hopefully not leave it where I’ve travled this time.

Yuliya Avatar

In theory, I like them. I like that you get a good amount of brushes to see how they are and how they’re used. However, it’s sad they’re machine made and arent as good quality as reg brushes =]

N. Avatar

Brush sets are great. It gives the essential brushes, without having to spend a ton of money, if you buy the full sizes. They’re also great to travel with. You don’t have to worry about losing your full size MAC brushes at all… just take your SE brushes in the brush set. I wished that MAC would come out with a brush set of the essential brushes you need, for a decent price.

Rosie Avatar

I have two of the brush sets from last year as I wore makeup before but really only got really into it last October, a year now! I think it was a good cheaper way for me to have access to different brushes. It’s a great way for people to get many brushes that are still good quality.

@candycanefaery

Julianna Avatar

I like the face brush sets for traveling because they’re so much shorter, but I’m not too crazy about the quality of the eye brushes. I do like how the brush sets look though. They’re usually really cute 🙂

Twitter=musthavemakeup

George Avatar

I love the idea of the brush sets, it’s an easy way to grab up some brushes to take when you go on vacation ^_^ For daily use I don’t like them as much as the full-size, but for vacation they’re great!

Sarah Avatar

I tend to avoid brush sets because I rarely use all that are included. But I am often tempted by some of the more beautiful sets. Sonia Kashuk’s spring coral brush set was particularly lovely, I think.

Twitter: sarahetc

Stephanie Avatar

I love brush sets! I think that they give you the opportunity to play with brushes that you might not have picked up before. My only dislike is that you always end up with one brush that you never use, but you don’t throw out because it’s part of your set.

Mari Avatar

I like the brush sets because they have a small handle and they are easy to carry around in your purse or great for travel.

twitter:MACandJUICYluvR

Luciana Lima Avatar

I like the MAC ones in general because of the value, despite some of the brushes included not being very useful. But I still feel the need to buy my favorite brushes in full size.

Missyl044 Avatar

I don’t really like the brush sets from mac. It’s a great idea but the brushes like the 219 and other eye brushes in the sets hurt to use.The + side of them is that you get so many brushes for $50 but, I wont tell girls who don’t have mac brushes to get them because I feel they that they give mac brushes a bad name because of the quality. Mac is coming out with 3 brush sets on Oct.15th and they have said that the quality of these brush sets have improved. I decided to get one of the new sets to see if they really are better than the old sets. I am also excited because they have added more brushes to their kits. Just a tip of you have the old brush sets and they are scratchy..use your hair conditioner to get them soft.

lisa Avatar

I do not think miniature brush sets are of the same quality as full sized seperately sold ones but i do love them still for travelling with and carrying in my purse for a quick touch up.

marivel Avatar

I think brush sets are great. there are times where I get a brush that I don’t know what I’ll use for or a dup, but I find a use for it eventually. as for the dup, I have another to use if im in a hurry and don’t have time to clean the one I used previously. also, you get more for your money! everyone loves that! especially with high end brands 🙂

Brush sets are love. my first brushes came from a MAC brush set, so they’ll always hold a special place in my heart. plus, you save so much money! my email is cookie8_7_[at]hotmail[dot]com

Peggy Avatar

I actually don’t like mac’s holiday brush set because it isn’t hand made so the quality is not great, some brushes scratches and one of my face brush even broke =(

alicia Avatar

I love brush sets, but when there’s a lip liner included, I often wish it was retractable or came with a cover. Come to think of it, they should make eye liner brushes that way for those of us who use gels.

Kell Avatar

What I think about brush sets: I don’t like smaller-than-full-size brushes, they’re not always as good quality-wise, and I don’t always like the way they look.

MC Avatar

brush sets… “I wish I had one”, is what I think!

I have a few basic ones that really multi-task and try and get the job done! The sigma complete set is number one on my xmas list

Livia Avatar

MAC Brush sets are a cheaper alternative to getting MAC brushes vs buying them separately, but I’ve heard so far that the quality isn’t often as good as the actual ones. I haven’t bought myself a set yet though, so I’d love to win this~!!

Brush sets are prob the best way to try out a company’s product in a great value. I see it as more bang for your buck and a little bit more practical than buying a brush on its own. Target has a great soft Bamboo collection of brushes from a basic high light, blush, eye shadow, liner and brow brush for around 10 bucks, how can you beat that. Thumbs up on brush sets ^_^

Gaby Avatar

I love brush sets but unfortunately can never seem to afford any really GOOD one’s. I have a few from CVS that work just as well. I also have a Stila double sided brush that is my holy grail. 🙂

I love my MAC brushes, but the brush sets just don’t seem to have the same quality. I use my brush sets strictly for travel, since they are conveniently sized and packaged for travel purposes (I also mind alot less if these machine made versions get messed up in my suitcase, in lieu of my handmade full size versions).

Thanks for all the sweet giveaways Christine!

Honestly, I haven’t purchased a brush set yet. I have several mac brushes that were bought independently. Would love to win a set for back up uses.

Nicole Avatar

I travel a lot for work and brush sets are very practical for that reason – the quality might not be the same of full-size brushes, but at least they do the trick when you can’t have your whole collection with you. 🙂

SimplySimplyS Avatar

The first time I bought a eye brush set, it was extremely disappointing. It wasn’t the same quality as you would get from the individual brushes.
But I’m still tempted to give it another shot cauz its a good deal to get brushes as a set.

Ji Avatar

I don’t have that much money to afford very nice brushes. i would rather spend my money on the more ‘interesting’ stuff than brushes. HOWEVER i feel like sometimes it is crucial to get nice brushes
like for your all over powder brush and the kabuki brush.

Charing Avatar

Hello 🙂

I love brush sets! They’re so much easier to buy and use, because each brush is meant for something. Plus, they’re cheaper 🙂

Jasmine Avatar

When I first started getting into MAC I couldnt afford to get all the brushes I wanted so the brush sets were perfect for me. Now I only buy the full size brushes but its a good way to start

Eileen Vales Avatar

I’m a sucker whenever MAC Holiday Brush sets come out. Every year I say I don’t need another set, but every year I come home with one (or two!). They make great Christmas gifts, they’re great for travelling, and you can always use an extra set at the office! My all-time favorite brush set from Holiday 2002 came in a sleek bag that I use to this very day!

Lucy Avatar

Please enter me in the giveaway. I love brushes! I didn’t know what I was missing when I just used sponge tip applicator for shadows. I always used a nice blush brush. Companies shouldn’t even bother putting a brush in with blush. I love MAC’s bushes with the short handles. Thank you.

Hi Temptalia,

In general, I think brush sets are amazing. They provide you a value for money, especially MAC brushes. In my opinion, someone should purchase this set if they are starting out and I would buy them to add to my collection or use it as a travel set! Sets also remind you of how little items/brushes you actually need instead of want. And i feel the same for the eyes set they usually sell. And not to forget, the quality is fantastic, and Face Brush Set is essential in every woman’s collection to achieve that flawless, radiant look.

Jenny Avatar

The brush sets are great for traveling; quick & easy. If for everday usage, it’s a bit too scratchy & there’s a risk of the brush head just coming right off from the handle lols

Fari Avatar

I think brush sets are great. I have one from MAC that I picked up at my local CCO and I know that they’re not AS good as the original full size ones, but they still work really well. Brush sets are a great way to get many of the tools you need for a fraction of the price because they’re usually cheaper than buying them individually, so why not buy them! I REALLY want the sigma brush set.

Audrey Avatar

i think brush sets are a great idea. most of my brushes i own are part of a set. you save a lot of money buying brushes in sets than individually. however, individual brushes are usually better quality than the brushes that come in a set.

twitter: audreydao

Sandy Avatar

Brush sets are a good way to start out if you don’t have anything. Then you can add individual brushes as you find the ones that work for you — and they might not all be from the same line.

HC Avatar

MAC brush sets? I personally do not like them because they are a step down from the real normal sized black MAC makeup brushes. I do however think that they are great for MAC user beginners since you get a wide array of brushes for a decent price. However, I do believe that the $ used on brush sets should be used towards the normal sized good brushes because in about a year or so, you’ll be spending $ to replace the brushes in the set since they are machine-made and not quite as durable as the handmade normal sized black ones that MAC sells — they start fraying! On another note, the bags that come with the brushes are CUTE!!

Dini Avatar

The only brush set I have is an older holiday set from MAC. I’m pretty happy with it, but was told that the single brushes are made “better” than the holiday set brushes. I only indulged myself with one extra non-set brush (217) and I like them all. Cover Girl is great for kabuki brushes and I’ve been eyeing EcoTools, too!

@DiniDarling7 (twitter)

Ngoc P Avatar

We can say that Mac is a super good brand of makeup product. I think that the brush set is also popular. Everyone I known as a guru…have Mac brushes. They are best in quality and they do the job well.

Lena Avatar

brush sets are pretty good for the deal, they are great for portability also. the quality is not on par with the regular brushes but for the price, its expected!

twitter: leenuhhh

Kajal Couture Avatar

I think brush sets are a great deal because even if they are not handmade, the bristles are still the same so you practically get the same effect as full size brushes. They are perfect for travel because the shorter handles take up less space and since they are cheaper, I don’t mind if they get a lil squished in transit.

Heather L. Avatar

Brush sets are a great way to start your brush collection. The mini size of MAC’s holiday sets are super for traveling!

twitter: heatherlouie

shatani Avatar

okay, fingers crossed im entering!

i actually kinda love brush sets because i cant usually bring myself to spend ungodly amounts (to my poor self anyway) on a single brush. this especially goes for mac brushes. the only thing i dont like sometimes is that they are mini/travel size. i like big brushes!

jamie Avatar

I really love the idea of brush sets, I mean 4 brushes for $50 sounds good right? But I would love if they were made in a different way. I have a brush set from the ’07 holiday season, and it’s good. I love the eyeshadow brush, the eyebrow brush, and fluidline brush, but the blush brush… ugh SHED SHED SHED. So many little black hairs all over my face.
No matter what I do, always all those little hair… :C
But for MAC newbies, or people who can’t afford to buy $20-60(like me) brushes, it’s a good deal.
And the brush bags are usually super cute. I use mine to care tampons (lol tmi)

Christy Avatar

They’re worth getting if the regular size brushes are outside of your budget. They can be of good quality and value. I would suggest feeling them and testing them to ensure they meet your needs. Some of the older MAC brush sets were very very good. I still have a set from 2000/2001 and those are still great. Then their newer ones tend to be okay. I have last years face brush set where I’ve found the 187SE is dying now, but the 190SE still works like it was brand new.

Jennifer Avatar

a brush set is great for beginners, they permit to get a good deal on the essential. but when you have some brushes already, it begins to be harder to find a good set with brushes you don’t have yet.

kat Avatar

Sadly I don’t have any brush sets yet because I just recently started getting into MAC and buying MAC products thanks to some of my favorite makeup gurus on youtube. From what I have seen and missed out on I LOVE LOVE LOVE the brush sets. I’m planning on getting the Do-the-Trick Buff and Line Brush Set from the MAC Magic, Mirth, and Mischief Collection for Holiday 2009 for my first brush set purchase! It is perfect for beginners like me who is just starting out and is for a GREAT price!!!! I cannot wait :):)

Frankie Avatar

Sometimes I like brush sets and sometimes I don’t. Some sets come with that annoying unnecessary brush that either you already have or have no idea how to use.

twitter = x_PEACESofme

Sonia Avatar

I find that brush sets normally comprimise the type of brushes, for example a lot of the mac holiday set brushes are either shorter or feel different in quality. I personally prefer buying brushes seperately so I can get exactly what I need and not be stuck with extra brushes that I will never use. By the brush sets are good for travelling, and for going back and forth to school! 🙂

Kristin Avatar

I think they are great for a first set of brushes, but after that you end up with duplicates of the same style. From now on I’m just purchasing brushes by the singles.

Chris Avatar

I love brush sets because it gives me the opportunity to buy more for less and also try brushes that I may not have bought individually.
Thank you for the giveaway! 😉

Nadine Avatar

I’ve never tried a MAC brush set but I heard they aren’t the bet. I think in general brush sets are a great idea. Even if you have multiples of one type of brush, you can use them for different colours. I’d like to the try sigma brush sets. It sounds like they’re comparable to MAC.

Sass Avatar

For me, brush sets are great for travel only (daily or long-term). I wouldn’t use them to apply my makeup at home. Just for touch ups on the go. 🙂

Heather Avatar

i think brush sets are great because they give people the opportunity to try out brushes for a cheeper price, even though the quality isn’t as nice as the real ones can be,i still think they are great!

JaNae Avatar

I love the Mac brush sets for travel as well as to experiment with different brushes that I did not know how to use. I purchased two brush sets several years ago for less than the price of 3 or 4 of the full size ones. They come in pretty colors and are perfect to stick in your makeup bag. The brushes I could not live without I purchased full sized ones. I am getting a set for my 14 year old sister for Christmas. She has been begging me for some Mac brushes.

Vanessa Avatar

I first started off with a MAC brush set..great for beginners.. I eventually started to buy the full size brushes here and there but overall sets are good for starters!

Sabrina Avatar

Brush sets are great – I think! I don’t have too many brushes, so buying a set is the best way for me to go right now!

oxanne Avatar

Hi,
well, they used to be better. They’re worst that the regular brush from MAC.
But I still love the idea of a brush set, it’s easy to travel with, and you get really more than the individual brush.

rae Avatar

i love brush sets because they r very portable also they usually carry all the essentals also they r space saving because the r all combined in one set i like that alot

Cody Avatar

I’m conflicted about brush sets! There’s usually 1 or 2 I already have, 1 or 2 that I’d really like, and the rest I’m indifferent to. What lures me in is the cute bags! But for somebody just getting started with make-up, they are a great deal and much cheaper than buying full-sized brushes. My brush set from 5 years ago is still in great shape after tons of use!

Jennifer Avatar

So far I have only gotten inexpensive brands of brush sets like eco tools, costco. They are hit and miss for me. I do plan on getting a brush set from MAC’s holiday sets.

Tatiana Avatar

Brush sets are one of the best deals ever! I got my first one as a birthday gift and that opened up a whole new world for me. Prior to that I had no fancy brushes. Took me a while to figure out how to properly use them though!

Tara Avatar

I don’t really have any brush sets (unless you count those really cheap ones I’d get in sets when I was a kid). I prefer to pick out individual brushes so I don’t end up with doubles or brushes I never use.

Valentina Avatar

I don’t like brush sets because very often it’s poor quality, but sometimes I buy some of them if the packaging is very cute, as for the hello kitty one.

CRiSTaL Avatar

Brush sets in all are great, if you are starting out, because it contains all the necesary ones you need =)

But you could always start with buying one by one, since they are a little expensive =)

We all know, brushes are a must for getting your face looking fabulous with all your makeup! =)

Hi, Christine!

I believe in MAC brushes – they are the most professional and it’s deservedly so. 🙂

I can’t afford to buy MAC brushes though, but I’d love to possess some of their renowned brushes – winning this brush set would be the best opportunity for me to try brushes by MAC. 😀

I think brush sets are awesome, especially for people who are just starting out with brushes or mac brushes. Its a good way to try out different mac brushes to see which ones you like and which ones you might consider purchasing in full size. I remember my first brush kit from mac, I still love and use my SE187 brush, I actually use it more than my full size one! Brush sets are definitely worth it if you don’t already have any.

Kim Avatar

I like brush sets because the brushes are more afforable when bought all together, instead of just one that’s full price. The only thing i don’t like is that their all manufactured instead of hand-made

Cindy Avatar

Hmm, I’m not sure what I think about brush sets–it seems there is usually one or two in the set that I can’t or won’t use. I have always pruchased mine separateley.

Maria Avatar

I love my brush set that I got a couple of years ago! It’s perfect and has all the brushes I need. They’re pretty costly, but I think you get your money’s worth after they last for years and years!

I like the MAC brush sets for the price even though I’ve found the quality is at times less than the usual MAC brush quality. They still work and I’ve found even the lesser quality ones to be better than say – drugstore brushes.

Brush sets are great gifts! However, brush sets for me are kinda hard to purchase. It always seems like I only need 1 or 2 brushes out of 5 in a set. I like to have 2 of some, but for most all I need is one.

I think the brush sets are really cute, and while they’re not the same quality as the full-size handmade brushes, I think they can make great starter kits for girls just getting into makeup, or even travel kits for those situations where you don’t feel like draggin all your full-size brushes with you!

Brush sets are nice , because you save a little money on them. And if they are from a high end make up brand, they are sure to be a good steal. However you may or may not need all the brushes or there might not be one brush in the set that you’d really want with it…So that can be the downfall.

I’m not a huge fan of brush sets. While they are a good way to build an initial collection affordably, I can tell the difference in quality from the full size brushes.

Pizzicata Avatar

I think brush sets are a good value. I got one for my birthday this year, and each day I am thankful for it b/c I am just starting my makeup collection.

Amy Avatar

Brush sets are great when you are starting out, but once you have a good set of brushes, sets aren’t that useful. I don’t buy brush sets because usually I just get duplicates. I would rather spend money on something I don’t have.

Renee' Avatar

I’ve never owned a MAC brush set but I hear so many good things about their brushes that I’m leaning towards buying a few. I’m waiting for the brush sets coming for the holidays to be my first MAC brush purchase. Other than that I can’t really say too much about other brush sets. I own a set from Mary Kay and I really do like them. At first I used to be brush-dumb (I thought you could just use one brush for a look and be done… boy was I stupid. Now I have all the basic brushes in my set to pull off a great look.

Carolyn Avatar

I love the idea of brush sets – getting a variety of brushes at the same time. But, it really depends… like mac’s brush sets are all SE brushes, which I don’t find the same in quality,so I don’t buy them anymore. Otherwise, I really like them!

Shelley Avatar

Brush sets are great! Great for travel when you don’t have the room for your full-size brushes or when you just don’t want to take your more expensive full-size brushes with you. MAC usually changes the color of their brush set brushes’ handles every holiday collection which makes the sets more interesting.

Lexi Avatar

Personally, I really like brush sets. It can be really expensive if you buy each brush individually. Plus they usually come with really cute bags!

Sixx Avatar

I love brush sets (especially the unique MAC holiday editions) because I LOVE shorter handles and I love having matching brushes. Also, there have been so many brushes i “accidently” fell in love with as I never would’ve thought to have purchased them separately if it weren’t for the fact that they came w/the set…

paula Avatar

I think brush sets are amazing! i havent tried the MAC ones, since i heard their not as good as the ind. ones, but i think the concept is great. cute, small, essencial brushes, with a deisng on them 😛 ( for some collections) u can even throw it into ur purse, or travel bag and ur ready to go 😀 😀 😀

Brush sets are a great starter kit for girls who are just starting out with makeup. It can give people ideas of what brush they’ll want to purchase in the full size to get the maximum quality. I like brush sets because it’s easier to travel with since they’re not long handled and it’s easier to get close up to the mirror 🙂

My first brush set was one of the Graphic Gardens brush sets. I was excited because 1) seems like a great idea to have smaller versions of your every day brushes 2) you can keep them with you all the time.

I missed out on the Hello Kitty Brush Set that seemed to have sold out in a matter of minutes. I’m still planning on buying that brush set but, now I’ll have to search and search until I find the set intact and not for an uber amount of money.

Katya Avatar

well one think i have to say brush sets have positive and negative sides to them. sometimes they are really handy, because they will contain the main basic brushes you need, and the negative side – sometimes if you looking for something in particular – you have to get it separatley, or the set might have something in it that you already have!!(unless ofrcorse its a complete set of brushes – and you are a newbie to it) and for me i would prefer either way – all depends on prise, brush quality and their quantity, etc. 🙂

I think brush sets are a fabulous deal (especially for newbies) if all of the brushes are high quality. I recomend the brush sets sold by Lumiere (custom designed and ordered by the company) and Forever Female (resold by many mineral makeup etailers). MAC brush sets tend not to be as high-quality as MAC’s full-sized full-priced brushes.

Brush sets are great to get for traveling and when you are new to makeup because you get to test out a variety of brushes. From then you can decide which ones you need that best suits you before you buy full size ones.

Sarita Avatar

I’m generally not fond of brush sets because I find that many of the brushes I just won’t use. I think they are packaged pretty and it’s nice that they have a cover or container.

Misty Avatar

I love brush sets, but the quality is not as good as individual brushes in most lines. But they are a better way to build a collection when u cant afford high priced individual brushes.

Salena Avatar

I’ve never tried any mac brushes, but obviously i’ve heard they are amazing. I also heard the limited edition brushes are not as great as quality. But i’d be so lucky to try them :)!
Thanks for the giveaway!

Wilcoa Avatar

I admittingly have a love/hate relationship with SE brush sets. I love my larger brushes since some of them have natural hairs, and their SE versions do not. BUT I love brush sets because they’re smaller, easier to travel, easy to slip in a purse, etc., etc. They also make fantastic gifts. I got my first (and only) brush set years ago and had some troubles switching over, but once I did start using brushes they really convinced me about how good they are for blending. So, they’re great for the beginner and definitely a convenience to those who have used brushes for a while. So I guess I have more positives than negatives for brush sets, but my fave brush sets are face sets since it makes those long handled brushes nice and short ;P

Ada Avatar

Brush sets are very handy for vacations or for the gym bag. I got 2 sets last year and now keep them in my gym bag all the time. Also got to try a couple of different kinds of brushed I didn’t want to commit big bucks to yet.

Claudia Avatar

I think brush sets are cute but not a must have. Quality wise they are not the same as full size mac brushes and in the past whenever I have purchased a set I eventually have to get the full size version of those brushes and they don’t compare, however I’m always tempted to buy the sets and still have a couple.

Anna Phalactyc Avatar

I find that the brushes in MAC “SE” brush sets are considerably lower quality than the same brushes available a la carte in the perm collection. Variously, I’ve had issues with scratchiness, excessive shedding, and uneven bristles. Really disappointing!

Aryn Avatar

I personally don’t like the brush sets as I’m allergic to natural hair brushes so I have to get sythetic and mac doesn’t have many sythetic brushes. I’ve heard the brush sets arn’t as good as the real ones though :/

ShugAvery Avatar

I think brush sets are great especially for those new to makeup. Quality brushes are expensive, but the sets are also a good value financially. As well as portable. I mean imagine toting a 187 around in your purse all day. .. Bout to tweet this

Fernanda R Andrade Avatar

I think the eyes sets must have more options of brushes except te concealer one. This lasts “for ever” and the others we use and need more – aply, blend diferent colors and types of shadows!

i like brush sets because they are inexpensive for so many brushes… but to be honest, they aren’t as nice in quality as the hand made brushes that are sold separately. and they’re too short… its just my preference to have long handles!!

Darrien Avatar

I actually love the limited edition brush sets, they are great for travelling and when you on the go because you dont have to bring your huge brushes when your on the go.

i LOVE the holiday brush sets!! they’re easy to travel with because they’re compact and you get four (!) for the price of about 1 brush!!

I like the diversity and flexibility that brush sets offer, but I find myself going back to the same three brushes over and over again. I rarely USE the creative tools that I have in my arsenal, unless it’s for a special occasion or I’m feeling particularly creative.

I love brush sets mostly because I prefer the short handle. All my first brushes were from the MAC sets that come out at Christmas. I also bought them all for my sister a few Christmas’s ago. She really enjoyed getting them as a gift.

i have one brush set from mac, which i think was a pretty good purchase. it may not be as good as the full size ones, but for the price i think it was a good way of rounding out my brush collection for the time being… i have another set from body shop which i’m less fond of…they are soft, but they all seem to have the exact same characteristics, just different sizes…

Cherie Avatar

I get that brush sets are not normally 100% as good as the regular size brushes… BUT, I don’t mind brush sets really. It gives you a chance to try out a variety of brushes at a much lesser cost. And if you truly love the brush you can get it in the full sized version when the brush set ones get crappy. I also like the smaller handles on the brush sets. 🙂

I think brush sets are great! Buying individual brushes can get costly so a good alternative is brush sets. They’re also very travel-friendly. Sometimes, they can be made from really cheap materials but that happens with other single brushes, too.

I love pretty much all MAC make-up, and when it comes to MAC brushes and brush sets, you just gotta have them. I saw a distinct difference in the way MAC brushes so easily put on my eyeshadow, and the way the different types of brushes allowed for specific amounts of the make-up to be applied to certain parts of your face. They make doing make-up like an art! I can do all sorts of smoky looks and colorful shading, I just love it.

MariaPaula Avatar

I think brush sets are wonderful, especially if it has ALL the right tools: Powder brush, blush brush, contour brush, crease brush, flat shader, pencil, angled liner, brow/spooly, etc!!

I use to like brush sets because I feel that I’m getting a way better deal. Now, I would rather save up and buy my “dream” brush that’s more expensive. That way, I find that I’ll make use of every single brush and that the quality is better.

imo, brush sets are pretty cool for those new to makeup. You’re not really sure on all the brands out there and what brush is for what so you’ll want a complete set to feel your way around first 🙂 Plus its a pretty good save on money. But for those in the know, its the exact opposite where it’ll most likely be a waste of money as when you see one particular brush you want and the only way to get it is to buy the entire set. And in the end you’re left with way too many brushes you don’t need :C

I don’t like brush sets! I feel like they’re often too small to hold comfortably in your hand, and since “sets” are usually a bargain they aren’t as good quality as they would be, had you bought each separately.

I love them! My daughter has a set I bought her in the 9th grade (she is now 28) that she needs replaced because my grandchild(of the 4 paw variety) chewed all the handles to nubs. Boy was she furious with Cooper! Her bday is in December and I was planning to replace them for her!

i havent bought any of the mac brush sets, thought the hello kitty one was tempting, partially because of quality concerns i hear they dont work as well as full size. do you think the quality it less with the sets?

Elise Avatar

I like the brush sets. Yes they are not as good as the traditional brushes. However, I use these sets to take with me when I am out and about. They have shorder handles and so are easier to carry with you. It is much easier to fix your makeup in the middle of the day when you don’t have to carry around big brushes with you in your purse.

I think brush sets are a hard thing to shop for. If you want a good quality brush you really have to spend some cash. But buying cheap brushes just costs you more in the end. I’m currently in desperate need of some good brushes so this will take some comparison shopping and reviews.

Vicky Avatar

I love brush sets that comes out in the holidays. I think it is a super great way for me to try out a number of different brushes for less. In some cases, the whole set is cheaper than the full size of only ONE brush in the set. I know that the quality of the brushes that comes in the sets are not the same quality as the full sized ones but it nevertheless is the best way for me to try the brushes before I purchase a full size.

Overall I just think trying these sets really gives me an idea of how the actual full size brush would be like and from there, i can decide whether I want to buy it or not. I actually have one of those 181 SE that came in one of the sets last holiday I believe and I loved that so much I decided to buy a full size 182. However, on the other hand, I also have a 224SE from a holiday set which I just dont care too much for and therefore never really thought the point in buying the full size. It can be a big money saver at times too!

Brush sets are also amazing as travel brushes. The 181SE that I got form the holidays I now carry around with me when I travel. You also get that amazing makeup bag or case that comes with every brush set you purchase which I just love. I really like collecting those makeup bags and cases and collecting brushes which I can use for different purposes.

I just love brush sets in general!

Megan Avatar

Brush sets are definitely amazing tools. I’m not the greatest at doing makeup, but when I have a great brush set, I feel like I can do anything amazing with brush sets.

I myself has purchased a few brush sets a couple of years back and use them everyday. Why? Because i think they are cute. I got mine from Sephora. I think it was called the Perfect 10 or something close to that. Anyway, it was like 10 for $70 and that’s the best deal i’ve come across in a really long time. And they are pink. Which really cancels out any negatives.

Marissa B Avatar

They always say brush sets are a “good value” but I think usually you think you’re getting a good deal when really you’re buying it for that one brush you like and you don’t use the rest. And they’re always so small for my taste! It just depends on the set I guess!

Angie Avatar

hippie_ippie: i like brush sets as they’re inexpensive and give me a variety of brushes I want. But I’ll still buy the full brush for basic use such as my foundation, blush and highlighting brush. My ‘investments’ are the mac 150, 129 and 187!

Simply Avatar

They’re not bad “starter” brushes but honestly, the quality just isn’t the same and I wouldn’t buy them again. I’ve purchased two different sets (different years) and I had black dye bleeding issues with the first set (ICK!) and shedding with the second set.

If you’re going for cheap brushes you’re better of with Coastal Scents or the equivalent of those brushes.

Patti Avatar

I don’t really have any brush sets yet, but if I find something that I can use most of the brushes in the set, then I think it is more economical to buy the set instead of individually. Hopefully, the quality would not suffer too much!!!

I think brush sets are a great way to learn about different types of products you may not have thought of using in your makeup routine. The only downside to having a brush set, is you’ll get stuck with one brush you have no use for or it becomes a duplicate you already own because it’s a basic necessity.

Vivian Wang Avatar

Honestly, the short handle brush sets are not as good as full size brushes. The bristles are not soft and tend to be falling down after wash. Although they are good for travel, I still like full size better.

Marjorie Avatar

Brush sets for me are really good for starters to learn what’s what and what they use most before investing in full size brushes. And the smaller sized brush sets are good to take in your handbag for touch ups, because it’s hard to carry full sized brushes.

Shirley Avatar

I’m not really a big fan of brush sets because they’re quite pricey and I’m not sure if I’d like every brush that they come with. On the positive side, brush sets are great for anyone starting with make up and also great for gifts 🙂

I like the brush sets as their size is ideal for travel all though the quality is not as good as the normal mac brushes. I love the packaging they come in.

Never tried mac brush sets because the closest counter is 2 hours away (boooo!) but in general, I like brush sets as a starting block. It’s nice to get a bunch of things to play with and to get a break on the price. The eye brushes that I use most frequently are paint brushes though!

Cinderela Avatar

Brush sets are a good way to get to try diferent brushes. You can always buy the full size later. It’s also practical to carry in your purse.

Jen Avatar

I love brush sets for travel. In fact, I purchased one before having my first baby and kept it in my suitcase so I’d be ready for my hospital stay!

i dont like sets because there are always one or two brushes i dont like or want. I prefer to take a brush roll and stick my favorite brushes in it.

I like them as they are a good way to get a bunch of brushes for a decent price. I have a brush set from the heirlooms collection. Out of the five brushes i would say i use three on a very regular basis and love them. The brow/eyeliner brush is the pits and the blush brush is a little small for everyday use.

I started out using brush sets and much prefer them over everything else as the look to me is more flawless.
Thank you so much for the chance to win.

Tina Avatar

Brush sets are a good way to start your brush collection. You can figure what kinds of brushes you like, and upgrade to better quality ones. Also it’s less expensive for starting out, and they are handy for travel.

Iris Avatar

For me, brushes last forever as long as I take care of them. Also, I only use a few specific brushes, so brush sets aren’t convenient for me because I will have a lot of unused ones.

Sometimes I splurge on a brush or two from Mac, but the drugstore kinds last me a while.

This is a great giveaway, thanks! 🙂

I must admit, I didn’t understand the true usage of brushes until I bought my first foundation brush, and boy, it was heaven 🙂 That’s why the make up brushes should never miss from a girl’s make up collection as they help you better apply and use the make up products. It’s easier to buy a set as you have the right brushes to use for all your make up. There are girls that stand in front of a huge selection of brushes and sometimes they buy stuff they don’t use for their intended purpose. So if you buy a set, you buy the brushes you will actually need.

The brush set is totally awesome for its quality, but the price still high if you’re not in US and have to pay for shipping charge. I love them

I like brush sets for travel so I don’t have to haul around large brushes with me. I find them really helpful as I bring some basic cosmetics with me to work and school to do any needed touch-ups during the day. I would love to try the MAC brush sets as the ones I currently have (NYC Brand) are such poor quality and I’ve heard how great MAC brushes are.

I love the brush sets! Bought all 3 last year to start off my collection & even though I have plenty now, the sets for this year are very tempting… 🙂
I especially love the little bags they come with!!

I think brush sets are a great way to get started. Jumping right into brushes and trying to buy half a dozen essential all at once can be ridiculous so I think that brush sets are a great way to tide you over and fill any gaps in your collection until you can upgrade to a full sized or better quality brush.

Anai Avatar

I think brush sets are a great idea for converting people over to MAC! a lot of my friends love my make-up but balk a the price of MAC brushes and stick to store-brands, and since brush sets are always out in Aus around holidays, I find them a great affordable gift to show my friends that they might be pricey, but they’re worth it!
Plus they’re so convenient for carrying around for day-to-day use, and proof that MAC is happy to get into the holiday spirit and give us a good deal 😀
xxx.

Valentine Avatar

Brush sets aren’t something I’ve personally been drawn to, simply because I’m pretty picky about which brush brands I like for what type of brush. Hmmm, hope that sentence makes sense, but thanks for the giveaway

Karen Avatar

I think brush sets are great if you’re just starting out or as gifts to people who you’re trying to convert to MAC! Usually, they contains the brushes that you’d want multiples of so you can get those duplicates for a tiny price! 🙂

Diane Kristine Avatar

Aloha! Personally, I enjoy brush sets. My boyfriend bought me my first set a couple years back for my birthday and it helped a lot. It was nice to try out different ones without spending a fortune on regular sized ones and not knowing what their purpose was. I’m not a makeup artist or anything, just someone who’s addicted to makeup all over again and I’m still learning the tricks of the trade. Mahalo for the contest!

MJ Avatar

I really don’t know. I never had one. I was hoping to get one this holiday but i have been hearing mixed reviews about it. I was going to get one beacuse they are portable and it would be a great starter out for me since i am a newbie at makeup right now.

With brush sets, especially MAC brush sets, I like to give them as a startup gift to my friends/family. The quality of the brush sets are good but not on par with the actually individual brushes themselves. I like using them as a tester I suppose – to see what I can use the brush for and how often I actually go for a particular brush from the set.

Twitter: shmay23

Mary Ann Avatar

I think brush sets are amazing for those who are just starting out in makeup because they usually include the necessary brushes that you can use everyday; and most of the time they are a better value if you buy them as a set instead of individually. But I also find that the brushes aren’t the best quality, so you always have to consider quality over quantity – I would rather have an expensive brush that will last me years, instead of brushes that will last me a few months.

myrna Avatar

By the time I got to the store to get these.. they were already gone 🙁 I think the brush sets are an excellent way to test drive the brushes without breaking the bank!

Chiara Avatar

I love brush sets! They are so convenient, the brushes have a small handle so they’re great when you have to travel. They’re quite cheap too, compared to what you’d have to pay buying normal sized brushes. And I always found the quality quite good: I’ve had some brushes from a Mac 2005 holiday set and they’re still great.

janeh Avatar

brush sets are convenient for travel, or for just carrying in your purse for touchups…….I do have some standard size brushes though, that I really love and use the most.

Jasmine Avatar

I love the MAC travel brush sets. Although they are not the best quality of MAC brushes, they’re great to travel with and they are multi-functional! you can use them in many ways without having to travel with a gazillion brushes. plus, the hardware is super cute 🙂
@MissJaaay

Sara Avatar

I love brush sets! They’re a great way to get introduced to MAC brushes and they’re amzing for travel. I hate traveling with my full sized MAC brushes, if they are ruined, replacing them costs a bundle. Whereas traveling with brush sets is not as terrifying. If they ger messed up, I only paid around $10 per brush.

Esh Avatar

I think brush sets are really cute, great for traveling and also as a gift.
However their quality isn’t like the regular ones and that’s too bad…

Gabriela Avatar

I think that the quality of brush sets is worst than the individual brushes. They are less soft, they are not handmade… However, it`s a cheap way to get good brushes at a good price.

Brush sets are essential for having your make-up come out even and look better than you would if you use just your fingers to apply it. I always notice a difference in the way it looks when I use brushes vs. no brushes.

Courtney Avatar

i love brush sets 🙂 for me, i like the short handled because they are easier for me to handle (arthritis in both hands) and travel with, and are usually a good value as opposed to buying all the same full sized handle brushes individually 🙂

Kelly Avatar

I love them, because I tend to leave little things behind when I travel–both when I’m packing to leave and when I’m packing to come home! So to have something that I can just use for travel is great. Just leave it in the suitcase when I get back! Then, when I leave them behind, I don’t cry when I get home because I have to put on eyeshadow with my fingers. LOL.

JL Avatar

Brush sets? They’re cute like all matching sets, but I feel like there are probably only two or three brushes I would use on a regular basis. I prefer to go for just getting individual brushes.

Petra Avatar

I really like brush sets, because it’s a great way to have all basic (and extra) brushes. I do admit that the ones I use on a daily basis, i tend to either buy the original size one, or buy it after i tried the small version previously. Also, I enjoy having two blending brushes, because sometimes you don’t have time to clean one, when you need two for one look ( a clean one for blending ). I always hear the brush sets are not as good quality, but the ones I own seem just as scratchy somedays as the regular ones.

Lolli Avatar

Brush sets are really good in my opinion they are key for travel , better for value and can fit in a small space for storage, the variety in the brush sets are worth while for budding new make up artists.
the quality for mac brush sets are very good for mini brushes and they work as well as the regular brushes.
i use the mac antiquitese eye brush collection every day since they were released in 07?

I own a few of MAC brush sets and I think they’re useful especially if you do not wear too much make-up. They’re easy to bring places as well. But there are other brush sets that are of better quality than MAC’s brush sets.

Jen Avatar

I’ve heard people say terrible things about the brush sets but I got the hello kitty one and I’ve used all of the brushes quite a bit. The eyeshadow brush isn’t my favorite but you really can’t go too wrong with any 187. I would love more as they are a great compact size. 🙂

Giselle Avatar

brush sets are a good make up start item, when i was 10 i started to buy make up, but my parents always paid it, so they never bought me a make up brush they only bought me eyeshadows, lipsicks, glosses and sponge eyeshadows applicators (or if they bought me a make up pallette i only could use the applicators that come in the packaging) and it resulted me hard to apply my make up, so i started to save money and three moths after i bought my first brush set and it really helped me!!
so if you have the same problem as i had a brush set results helpfull because i didnt had enought money to pay each brush so i bought a set.

JeanMarie Avatar

I think brush sets are a great idea for someone who doesn’t have many brushes in their collection and would like to try out a variety. However, MAC’s brush sets are infamous for their below average quality, especially when comparing the SE brush to its permanent version.

The mini brushes are adorable and so is their packaging and WAY CHEAPER TOO! The quality isn’t as good as the original sizes.. but they are still pretty good brushes for the cheaper price. And they are a good size to carry around.

BELLA Avatar

I love MAC brushes- they’re the best brushes I’ve used so far. Right now they have a full size brush set of four brushes on their website; it’s a great deal because it saves you over $80, but it’s still pricey. I’ve never gotten to use any of the smaller brush sets or travel brushes they have tho, but I’d be thrilled to try these out since I’m always traveling. Would also make a good gift for a newbie for the holidays!

So far, one of my fave brushes is the #214 smudge brush that was released with the Style Black collection

I think brush sets are a great way of trying out new brushes without having to hand in a load of cash for every individual one or to have for travel. But in some sets the brushes can be of lesser quality compared to originals! Overall I love brush sets because i love beauty minis~

DJ Avatar

Brush sets are a good way to try out brushes before you make the commitment of paying full price for a regular sized brush (cause some brushes aren’t cheap, eg 134, 138 etc)

Kathy Avatar

I really like them even though they’re not the same quality as the other ones but it gives you the chance to try them out without having to spend a huge amount of money.

Rose Avatar

If your talking about the brush sets from MAC, I have Pros and Cons about them. I really like that they have shorter handles so that it’s easier to go closer to the mirror and also is ideal for traveling. They usually come in really cute carrying cases which is a plus. I find though that they aren’t as great in quality as the full sized brushes which is a downside. But other than that, I find them to be decent and convenient.

dani Avatar

i think brush sets a great way to go when you’re just starting out or it’s cheaper and convenient to buy a set than one expensive brush.

I like how they are travel-friendly and also affordable. it gives me a chance to try out new brushes before buying full sized ones. However, comparing the SE ones to the full sized ones, the SE ones can sometimes lack quality.

I think they’re good for starting your collection, otherwise you’ll end up with duplicates. I’m looking to purchase a set but am researching your site first to know which brushes to look for. =)

Steff Avatar

We all know that most brush sets aren’t the same quality as purchasing them individually, but they do have their advantages to purchasing them. They are great for travel, but MAC needs to improve the quality of them.

Brenda Avatar

I think brush sets are okay as a start. I remember when I first started out makeup and didn’t have the money to get all the brushes I needed so I bought a brush set and it worked well enough for me until I got the full sized ones. They’re also great for traveling but overall, once you have the bigger ones then they seem really useless.

brush sets are amazing especially for newbies just because we want to be able to start using our mac products and it usually covers the essential for half the price.

Carla Avatar

I think that brush sets are a fantastic way to buy MAC brushes at a lower price. All of the brushes in a set are not exact substitutes for the full sized brushes though, but the ones that are completely make up for the quality of the other ones. I find that if at least 2 of the brushes are of excellent quality, it makes the whole set worth it. Plus, the bags (or cup, in the Hello Kitty set) are amazingly cute.

Kelly Avatar

Not sure if I would like them, as I’ve never got them. For the reason being, they were too still too expansive and I am careful with my brush selection.I live at the other end of the world where MAC product prices are hiked up like you wouldnt believe! So I’ve been collecting my brushes from some time now and have been hunting for the perfect makeup travel bag. It wasnt until 3mths ago that I found the perfect bag to go with my exponentially expanding brush collection. I know brush sets may have end up saving me a fair bit, however I also did some research before starting my collection that they are factory manufactured and not hand made (infact I may have read it here on Temptalia 🙂 ). Hence, my reasoning was to do it first, do it right! No regrets.Cheers!

I like to treat myself to nice brush sets but I have to admit I’m not as disciplined as I should be about cleaning and caring for them properly.

I honestly don’t know much about brush holiday sets. I’ve recently become a fan of TiffanyD makeup tutorials on youTube, and she recommended trying out the Mac Holiday Brush Sets to start my collection. Because of her makeup tutorials, and really starting to venture out into the makeup realm. I mean I’ve always used powder, blush, and mascara, but now I’m working on eye shadow, and real ‘colors’. It’s all very exciting, but I need to add to my new collection. When I ‘saw’ tonight about Mac’s holiday brush sets I googled it. Temptalia showed up. Don’t worry I’ve already bookmarked your site, win or not. 😀 Who knew makeup could be so exciting?

I like the look of the brush sets and the feel of the face brushes minus the concealer brush because its so rough. The eye sets are just too harsh for me and you can def feel the quality difference. But if someone were on a budget and can deal w it then I say go for it!!!

Koko Avatar

I think brush sets are great for a few reasons.
1 -usually they are smaller sized brushes which make them more portable and better for travel and carrying around in your makeup bag for touch ups.
2 -With Mac brush sets they give you a chance to try out several brushes at a cheaper cost than buying the regular sized one. Then you can decide which brushes you want to spent $ on for more long term brushes.
3 -finally, it’s always good to have extra brushes kicking around in case you forgot to clean your brushes the day before, or if you’re doing eye make up and you need a brush that hasn’t already been used.

I love the “idea” of brush sets but find often that there are several that have bristles that are of lesser quality and feel scratchy which is so not cool. I think brush sets in general are a nice place for people to start out and kind of get a feel for what they like/need/want, but ultimately should think about purchasing regular/full size brushes because the quality tends to be better

Maren Avatar

I think the brush sets are a great idea and of course you would only get 1 regular face brush for the prize of the whole set. They are cheaper because they are not handmade like the regular ones and therefore the lower quality (speaking of the natural hair brushes e.g. the 129SE, the synthetic ones are ok IMHO), but the brush set costs 56€ here (over 80$!) and for 80$ I can get better brushes from other companies. And I think the quality gets worse over time. I have a brush set from several years ago and compared it to the colour forms set last year and I was so disappointed, the 129SE had nothing in common with my 129SE or the fullsize.

I’d say I feel pretty “meh” towards brush sets. They can be a good deal sometimes, but they also tend to throw in things that I don’t really need or aren’t worth as much as the other brushes (like spoolies or those useless plastic eyelash combs!).

I do like the concept of a brush set, but too often they don’t offer the brushes I would like in a set. Even with the ‘specific use’ brush sets you often have this problem. So I end up buying them separately. It would be great if they’d offer the option to create your own brush set, with a small discount for buying them as a set.

Brush sets are great for travel or dupes of your favorite work horse originals in cases you need a back up for doing two colors. An extra set can help lengthen the life of your originals by using them for that quick makeup job so washing/wear is less frequent on them.

The brushes look like they’d be easy to use for anyone, but they look professional too. They don’t look like something you pick up at Walgreens.
They also look they they won’t leave the make-up you are applying them with, look clumpy and cakey.

i have mixed views on brush sets. I bought one from mac and while 4 of the 5 brushes were great, i had a 252 se brush and it was extrememly rough and was completely nothing like the full sized version. But i have bought some other other brush sets like posh, ecotools and love them!

I think some of the brush sets in the holiday collections are kind of good, not as good quality as the full size ones, but still and nice to start out with if you’re a beginner. I haven’t really used any MAC brushes and don’t own any, but some of my friends have the SE brushes, because thats all they could afford. They seem to like, but they are the only brushes they do have. So overall I do think the SE brushes have some benefits.

I’ve never purchased brush sets – I prefer to buy full-sized brushes because they last longer and seem to be higher quality. However, I might consider buying a brush set for travel. I currently don’t have a travel brush set.

sonia p. Avatar

i both like and dislike brush sets for the following reasons: i like them because they are more affordable than buying the brushes individually and they are much easier to travel with. However, there are times when you buy brush sets, and end up finding no use for a number of the brushes.

Kris Avatar

If quality was my only concern, I would of course purchase full sized brushes rather than brush sets, but when I factor in the cost, I can usually get about four better than drugstore quality brushes in a MAC brush set for the price of a single MAC brush. I’m not a makeup artist and have no intention of spending hundreds of dollars to have the necessary brushes. 🙂

Georgie Avatar

I do love the idea of brush sets- as they are so convenient to take travelling etc but the quality isn’t as good as the regular sized brushes.

I love the brush sets, I could always do without some of the brushes, like the fan brushes. I think I only need three, a small shadow brush, blush brush and angle brush. those are my three need to haves.

For me brush sets can be a waste of money. There is always one or two of them that I never use. I’d rather purchase a few individual brushes.

Sara Avatar

Hey doll! What a fabulous giveaway, your such a sweetheart! Brush sets are affordable and can be overall a wonderful deal. However, not all sets will have what you are actually wanting/needing, so I tend to buy individually. Brush sets are very convenient for travel though and make great gifts!

Good luck to everyone and best wishes!* ♥

Jessica Avatar

The brush sets are always a steal in my book. I love when the holidays come out and the sets that are available! I think they are just as great as the regular brushes by themselves. It is also nice to have all the brushes you need all in one.

Elena Avatar

I love brushes! they really make a difference in how your makeup is applied and how it looks. It makes such a difference that since I started using more brushes to apply my makeup my friends notice and compliment my eyes all the time now :). I only started my brush collection this year and it’s a working process..I’m trying to get the good ones so they will last me a long time!

bjorktr Avatar

I prefer buying single MAC brushes. But every girl needs a nice and small set for travels, I have a good set of small brushes that I can carry around easily. It has a cute pouch too.

Kajal Couture Avatar

I like them because they are convenient for travel. The shorter handles mean they take up a couple less inches of space, and if they get squished in the transit process, I am not as bummed as I would be if there were my full size brushes. twitter: kajalcouture

sara Avatar

i have tried the brush setsbefore and i must say they are of inferior quality compared to the full size brushes, however, for the price and the amount you get, from mac, its worth it!

Jamie Avatar

I really like the MAC brush sets since I did get one last year for Christmas. The only thing I will say is I feel like they are made a little bit more cheaply than the full sized versions. I have the 217 in SE and I have seen the normal sized 217 and I just feel like the SE is a little more coarse and rough feeling. Other than that they are GREAT to try out the brushes and see if you would wanna get the full sized versions.

sukii Avatar

I just love the brushes and the eyeshadows. I also think the packaging is super cute. Kinda hoping to win since i wont be able to buy much this year for the holidays.

mac special edition brush sets allowed me to get familiar with different brushes, even if they’re not all 100% the same quality as the full sized. i got a feel for what certain shapes could do, and such. i’m glad they were/are available!

i love brush sets it allows you to spend not as much on all the brushes as you would normally buy them seperately but i do not like how some brush sets seem over priced for only the small sized brushes. although i love the small sized brushes for travel i really think that they should be cheaper in a set.

IrisVsMakeup Avatar

If they’re good quality then it’s worth trying. I recently saw a brush set at my Kryolan store that was amazing: the brush range was huge, the bristles were synthetic but very soft and it was ridiculously cheap (60 euros). I already have tons of brushes, but if I had not, I would buy it.

Kelli Avatar

I love brush sets. They are great for travel and if you are just starting out with makeup or need new brushes, it’s a great option. I have a MAC brush set and I love it. I use every brush.

olvia Avatar

hi! I think brush sets can be a great deal if you choose them carefully… I mean, if you are not careful you can end up paying quite a lot for some brushes you don’t need, you don’t know how to use properly or you already have! If you watch out, however, they can be a good way to try material for a lower price.

Sandra Avatar

I love the brush sets that you can customize to make sure you use every tool – I might need a few blush brushes, but don’t usually need more than one brow brush.

Also, I tend to want heavier coverage in the winter, so I’ll use one set of brushes for that makeup, and then another set of brushes for my summer makeup. Being able to have two separate brush sets like that is so helpful!

Melissa D Avatar

A quality brush set is the best beauty investment a girl can make! Good brushes will last for decades if properly cared for, and they make makeup application a breeze!

Pernille Avatar

I have bought a brush set form MAC and have only used one of them until now. I use it daily but I always get hair on my face I feel. Maybe the quality is not as good as the long-handled ones, I don’t really know. But with my 168 long-handled, I almost never get hair on my face.

I think Brush Sets are a must have in your beauty box. If you really want to get that professional makeup look without looking made up, the brushes you use to apply your makeup are key to achieving that type of look. I love to be creative with my makeup, experimenting with color, blending colors together to come up with unique shades and I would not be able to do that without the proper brushes. I think the more you love to explore different looks for yourself everyday determines how much you like Brush Sets, and I am a love of them!

Thanks so much for the chance to enter.

I think the quality of the brush sets has improved alot. I bought two sets last christmas and then bought the original regular brushes later and the brush set didn’t even compare to the originals. I bought another brush set a few months ago and the quality was so much better.

Kimberly Avatar

I like brush sets because they are so much more economical and handy for travel. I don’t think you need a whole new set too often though; if you wash them and care for them properly, they should last a good 5 years.

Brittany Avatar

I think brush sets are a must! I have been into makeup for a long time, but it wasn’t until I purchased my first brush set (it was low end, but still effective) to realize what a different brushes make when applying products. I’ve been able to make so many different eye looks now, it’s exciting. I’m loving Sonia Kushiak brushes and Eco tools right now, hopefully someday I can upgrade to “better” brushes 🙂

Tina Avatar

I think the sets are a great way for people new to MAC (like myself) to try out several different brushes, maybe ones that they would not ordinarily buy individually, and I travel a lot so the cases look like a really quick and easy way to pack some mini-size brushes and go! (And…Oh my goodness I would LOVE to have that lipstick! *Sigh*)

Ashley Avatar

i like brush sets when i travel because its conventient, its also helpful when i need to pack a little bag to take with me if I have some special event to go to later in the day – however, my best makeup brushes did not come in a set but were bought individually.

I so heart everything MAC! The brush sets are incredible, and I go looking for the gift sets that fly off the shelves around the holidays!
AWESOME giveaway; thanks for letting me enter!

Brush sets are awesome. at least for me. I have found them great for travel or just for day to day outings. I work in one stae and live in another so having nice accessible items with me that don’t take up much room are wonderful. They are also a good way to try before investing in large sizes.

star Avatar

I think brush sets can be a nice way to get a bunch of brushes at once if you are just starting out, but the quality is usually a little worse.

Sets are great. I like them because I live in one stae and work in another. Although its usually about 1 and 1/2 hours of drive time, I like to use sets for when I just travel back and forth to work to freshen up my look. Plus, I wouldn’t want to bring a bunch of larger items with me. The sets are perfect. They also give me the chance to try stuff out that maybe normally I wouldn’t try and the investment isn’t as great. MAC products are awesome too. Its a win -win for me.

Mir Avatar

I’ve only gotten one set of brushes, ever and it was a set for the eyes. I’ve never even thought about getting a set for the face – I only have one big one for loose powder. This particular one looks very cute (love the red!) and wouldn’t mind trying it out.

Yaya Avatar

i think brush sets are a great value, and you can always find a use for a brush, even if at first you think you’ll never use it.

Brush sets are great for travel and are awesome when you are starting out and building a collection or starting out when your doing free lance work 🙂

Danielle Avatar

They are great for travel and last forever! I still have my set from like 4 years ago and I use them DAILY! Shorter handle lets me get closer to the mirror making my makeup better!

Elena Ch. Avatar

I think that brush sets are great to start with and totally worth buying!!!!The short handle gives them the perfect size to carry in my bag everyday!

Heather W Avatar

I like brush sets but sometimes I don’t know what to do with some of the brushes included. I wear natural looking makeup and don’t have a lot of time. Brush sets make me look more polished but sometimes I don’t need or have a use for every brush included in the set.

Dddiva Avatar

I like the brush sets- especially for traveling. I know they also come in super-handy for the little divas as they are the *experts* among their friends when it comes to costumes for plays, or holidays and having the right tools in a portable version is part of why they are asked to help.

getpalmd Avatar

I have never owned a brush set. The only 2 brushes I have are the ones I use for powder / blushes, I have e.g. never tried any fancy eye makeup brushes and all the fun things that are on the market. However, sets are very good if there are instructions how to use them, because I have no idea which brush is for which part of the face 😉

BRUSH SETS are freakin’ amazing!
I have 5 brush sets!
1- my room
2- my bathroom
3- my car
4- my purse
5- my work bathroom

Always gotta look BRUSHED-FRESH!!

Courtney Avatar

I think brush sets are ideal for young mothers on the go (like myself) who need to look fabulous, but don’t always have the time. Mac creates a flawless look with minimal effort, leaving me with free time to spend with my son!

Lindsay Avatar

I’m a sucker for brush sets. They just suck me in! I don’t think I could ever have too much of any type of makeup but brushes especially because they don’t go out of style.

mona c Avatar

The first thing I learned about makeup was that you have to have a great brush set. A good brush set from MAC will make the makeup go on like it is intended.

Siledhel Avatar

I love brush sets, because you can get “more for less”
but… I don’t like that you can’t choose what you really need.. end up paying more for one bush that you will really use, and have some in your collection that are just “for the collection”

I like brush sets, the only problem is that there is always a couple of the brushes that I don’t need, or already have. The mac brush sets for the holiday collections are always interesting… they are a great gift to give to friends who are interested in makeup, but don’t have a big collection, and who are not as addicted to makeup as I am!!! The Mac holiday brush sets are perfect for traveling, or just to leave in a purse because the handles are a little bit shorter, and the usually come in a little pouch.

Marta Avatar

brush sets are such a great way to collect and try a broad scope of mac brushes. If you really love one, you can buy the full sized mac brush singly.

Emma Avatar

I don’t have any of the mac brush sets, but I’m just getting really into make-up. I think there a really good idea and amazing value for money! I especially like the idea of the adoring carmine sets how there like the face set etc., i was a bit disapointed when i relised the Magic Mirth, and Mischief werent like that 🙁 But yeh i think there deffinatly a good idea if you wanted to try certain brushes out or just want them to carry in your makeup bag!
