Rant & Rave: Spring Collections

Share: Tell us what you love and hate about spring beauty collections!

my answer: Sometimes they can run together when brands stick too closely to typical spring themes (e.g. pastels) – I like when brands mix elements of what you think of when you think of spring with something unusual. I love the textures of spring, though.

I like some of the softer more wearable every day pinks or softened corals etc but hate pastels and super bright colors that aren’t wearable most of the year or as typical daily looks. I don’t want to spend $60 on an eyeshadow palette or hundreds on a bright purse I’d only wear a few months of the year.

I tend not to like spring collections because they are full of pastel colours. If there is something I don´t like then it´s pastels. I believe that if there is hell, it´s full of baby blue and baby pink stuff…

I used to not like light colours, but be drawn to the really intense bright colours we often associate with summer, or the very dark ones for autumn and winter. For a couple of years now, I am very much drawn to pastels. I love them in eye shadows – provided that the colours are not just a shimmery pale mess on my olive skin, but can actually be identified as pinks, greens, blues, lilacs. I have also really gotten into frosts. So classical spring palettes make me very happy provided they show up on the skin and are not chalky!

I also really like to compare cliché peachy or light rose lips with the pastel eye shadows.

I’ll be honest, when I see a nail polish line come out with a pastel green, a paste blue, a pastel pink and a pastel peach *every single Spring*, I get a bit eye-rolly. Which is ungenerous of me, but this rogue can only own so many pastel polishes, especially since they often end up looking very similar on the nails… 😉

Well, at least it’s a time to save money, or catch up on permanent items, LOL! I don’t care for “traditional” pastels, but if something has a hint of irridescence/duochrome, I’ll give it a chance. I have fairly light skin, but my eyes are sooo dark, pastels seem a bit off, although irridescent shades can provide an interesting ethereal feel.

I do like brands that take into account various skintones/colorings, and incorporate the new, seasonal shades into the permanent line (ie, NARS), and make even the LE items available for a reasonable amount of time, again taking the needs of consumers into account (not everyone has the ability financially to immediately jump on a new collection).

I love Spring collections. I love most seasonal collections, but especially Spring. We’re finally out of months of dark nail polishes – almost blacks, greys, navy blues, deep purples, and oxbloods. And finally into something light and fresh. I really like to stick to nudes and soft pinks, less pastels, although there are a few lilacs I like to throw in as well.

I’m also not a fan of the pastels everywhere! Especially when it comes to makeup! I can handle the fashion and nail colors. They’re actually pretty cute! But there’s only like one group of people in the world that can pull off pastel makeup (cool toned pale complexions) and even some of them don’t look that great in them either lol. It’s like give it a rest already! My other rant is that the spring collections almost never release in spring. I get the beauty industry follows the fashion industry. But usually by the time spring collections hit its in the dead of winter. So we’re all sporting pastels and neons in flipping December lmao. So silly!

Overall, I tend to like the colors of summer and winter best.
But sometimes, I need those soft, sheer, “feminine” type pretty colors – and the selection is best in the spring collections.

That goes for lips, eyes and cheeks.

Whether or not I choose to buy something from a spring collection, I still enjoy looking at all of the press releases and seeing the products in stores because usually by this time I am growing tired of wintery shades. I definitely tend to by more blushes and lipsticks from spring (and summer) collections since I’m not always too fond of the shadow colors that often come out with these collections.

After all the gloominess in the fall winter (not makeup; just in general) I really enjoy bright, vibrant spring collections! Collections like Chanel’s and Guerlain’s are perfect examples of what I love: bright corals, reds and pinks, things that remind you of flowers. They just put me in a hopeful mood for spring!

I don’t really like it when a spring collection (or any collection) isn’t tied together by any particular theme. I’m a big one for themes lol.

yeah, pastels. strange, unnatural colors for eyes (like light blues and light greens). I can’t deal with the onslaught of colors every spring and summer. Trying to make unflattering colors “the thing” every doggone year.

Veronica Avatar

I like them. I love seeing all the pretty colors, even if I only buy a few. I also love that coral blush and lipsticks (my favorite color! and most flattering on me) come out usually in spring… Combine that with a light green or aquamarine eye shadow and it looks extra pretty!

I’m not a fan of pastel eyeshadows, but I like the aesthetic of a lot of recent spring looks- cat eye liner, pretty pink blush and lipstick (and macarons for some reason). That seems to be the standard makeup look of a lot of the ‘hipster/vintage’ girls I see around here, and I always think it looks nice, even though it’s not a look I’d wear that often.

I love the brightness and energy of spring collections, but also echoing what many others have previously mentioned: lighter pastel collections feel wishy-washy to me and are beyond dreadful with my colouring. I think spring collections are important as they are the first foray of colour and texture into the new year. So personally, I love when collections become less traditionally season dominated with colour choices and more about a creative vision of what feels new and modern.
