Milani Golden Eyes Sparkling Top Coat Mascara
Milani Sparkling Top Coat Mascara ($4.99 for 0.32 fl. oz.) is described as a “glamorous sparkling mascara top coat that adds a beautiful shimmer to lashes … the gel based formula allows for easy, even application.” It’s not shimmer, it’s glitter–it’s definitely larger and chunkier, which is really a good thing as shimmer would be harder to see, but in case you were thinking, “oh, fine shimmer!” it’s really glitter-sized particles. It’s also a top coat, which means it can be used over mascara, not just bare lashes, and it will perform better over mascara (more to cling to).
The formula is very wet, not too thick or too thin, but wet. When the glitter gets caught on a lash, it does adhere, and it doesn’t fall out during wear, but the glitter applies in a scattered, sparse way. If you apply it similarly to mascara, where you’re running the wand through the lashes, you’ll need three coats or more to get visible sparkle. Now, the problem with this, is it has a tendency to clump and pull lashes together, so you’ll also need a lash comb or clean spoolie to help bring back definition and lash separation. It’s a lot easier to just use the glitter that’s on the tip of the wand to sort of tap and press and slide through the lashes, as you’ll get a denser application and minimize how much of the gel base on lashes.
The major upside of this product was once on, it stayed put, but the downside was in the application and lack of density of the glitter. I had better results with this formula than I did with Chanel’s glitter top coat, though you can get similar results using a liquid glitter eyeliner and dabbing or combing through lashes.
Just as a note (this had no impact on the rating), but you might concentrate the glitter on the tips of lashes, rather than the whole lash, as I saw pops of blurred sparkle throughout the day, which might be distracting for some!
Golden Eyes Sparkling Top Coat Mascara ($4.99 for 0.32 fl. oz.) is described as “gold shimmer.” It’s true, metallic gold glitter particles suspended in a clear base. Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy (P, $19.00) is a liquid eyeliner, and it is a paler, less yellow gold. See comparison swatches.
Bronze Glare Sparkling Top Coat Mascara ($4.99 for 0.32 fl. oz.) is described as “bronze shimmer.” It’s a warm-toned, gold and copper mix of glitter suspended in a clear base.
Silver Gaze Sparkling Top Coat Mascara ($4.99 for 0.32 fl. oz.) is described as “silver shimmer.” It contains light-medium, metallic silver glitters suspended in a clear base. Urban Decay Glamrock (P, $19.00) is a liquid eyeliner but is similar. See comparison swatches.

They look so pretty swatched! I’m not sure if I would be interested enough in actually owning them though… hmm…
Maybe if they go on sale!
I guess I’ve never understood the appeal of glitter or even colored mascara. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one work as expected. Most of the time I can’t tell there’s anything on (particularly colored mascara), or it looks like odd little clumps (with glitter mascara). I personally think the look is better achieved with false lashes that are made with the desired effect. It’s usually more pronounced and much better executed that way. Just my thoughts! 🙂
Yeah, I don’t think they work all that well, generally speaking, though I like the effect of glitter on the ends of lashes from time to time!
I love blue mascara 😀 I got some in this shade

It looks gorgeous on dark eyes <3 but also on blue and green ones because it has a bit of purple in it
I'd love to have a pure blue or turquoise one cause that would bring out my eyes even more 😀 I had one that was almost green with a bit of blue in it when I was 11, I loved it 😀 I don't like that most green ones on the market are a bit too light(I want my colored lashes to still be at least medium-dark, or else I think they look off)
What brand and color are you wearing in the photo? It looks amazing!!!
That’s a picture from a Stella Mccartney show – apparently they were wearing a made-for-the-occasion gel. Into the Gloss covered it – http://intothegloss.com/2012/06/color-theory-blue-mascara/ – and offer alternatives. Less bright though, it sounds like. Unfortunately!
There is a Dior Mascara I own that looks like this, I dunno if they still do it, it’s Dior Diorshow mascara in n°258. Hope it helps ^^
You look great in this look. I’ve always liked colored mascaras, as liner + mascara color seem to work on my (old white broad) deep set eyes. Darker shadows seem to recess them (eyes) even more. Liner + masc pull them forward + it’s just a pop of color. Good with a light neutral simple shadow combo. BTW: I bough a Rimmel green + purple masc (called extra pop lash) within the past month @ CVS. Go for it…even if it’s not a good shade fo you, it’s cheap.
I don’t like the look of these at all. For starters, they look like they could pose a real problem for contact lense wearers or perhaps for just about anyone. And I really don’t think they enhance the look of lashes. They look clumpy and I’d gladly sacrifice “glitter” for clump free lashes.
It’s definitely an effect that is nicer in person than in photos – just because you don’t see it twinkling, especially since our eyes aren’t static for long!
Ohh how interesting. They actually look a lot like the Too Faced Glitter Glazes, which are supposed to work as top coats to eyeshadows. Hmm, I wonder if the formulas are similar
I can see what you mean about the clumping. It’s pretty but seems like it takes a lot of work
I never understood these products, using a glitter eyeliner works just as well, if not better since they have such a fine tip you can put the glitter exactly where you want it 🙂
Yeah, I think having it on a mascara wand would make it easier in a way, but so far, they’re not better!
I’m so excited about this! Bare Escentuals used to make a glitter mascara top coat that I just loved. I only wore it if I was out with friends on the weekend, or at a concert or something, but the subtle glimmer when I batted my lashes really added a little something extra. It was discontinued, but now I have a replacement! Yay, thanks for the find!
No problem, Alexis! 🙂
It’s crazy and unnecessary and I want it on my face.
LOL!
These look cool, but I already know this isn’t a product I would use.
