Have you ever completely reversed your opinion of a beauty product?

Have you ever completely reversed your opinion of a beauty product? From love to loathe? From loathe to love?
I’m sure that I have, though the only product I can really think of are Chanel Glossimers. I remember more just being unimpressed when I first tried them, and it took seeing them in the sunlight to go, “Oh, I get it!”

Thanks to Rosie for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.

No, not really… Although, I have been wearing blush alot more often, lately. There was also a time I never went anywhere without lipstick, but over the past 5 years, or so, I’m more likelu to go with a lip balm.

Yes! I used to love Too Faced eye shadow’s so much about 6 years ago. Now, I don’t even go near the product line. I don’t know what it is, maybe a new formula… I have no idea..

MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2. Love the color, but it’s very difficult to wear alone on my very fair skin as it tends to blend into my lip line. (From what I’ve seen online, it looks much prettier on darker skinned women because of the contrast!) However, it started to get some fairly regular use once I realized that it made an excellent mixing agent. A lot of pink shades will pull orange on me if they’re even slightly warm, so I mix them with Viva Glam Nicki 2 to “cool” them down. I also blend it with dark purples or reds to get mid-tone purples. 🙂

I used to love love LOVE Maybelline’s mascaras. I mean, there was nothing better for me for a really long time, and now I can’t stand them. Nowadays I’m much more drawn to things like MAC’s In Extreme Dimension, Benefit’s They’re Real!, and Scandal Queen Fairy Drops!

Bareminerals eyeshadows. They were all I used for years and I was totally obsessed and had probably 70 shades. I can’t stand them now. So messy and just not something I ever want to use.

The Kat Von D Lock-it Foundation. I thought it was AWESOME at first, but the more I wore it, the more I noticed I was reaching for acne targeting products. Then it started oxidizing on me after having it for a few months.

Also Revlon Lip Butters–I purchased many of them and for a while these were all I wore. Then I noticed my lips were chapping like crazy and that none of my lip balms would work–until I stopped using the lip butters.

When I first tried Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipstick. I hated the texture. It made my lips feel like they were coated in plastic. But then I realized that I could go hours without reapplying, and this was a godsend. I now own 4 shades in this formula. Conversely, I used to buy OPI polish exclusively, but with the way OPI has treated bloggers and their constant silly celeb collaborations, I stopped buying from them as much. I focus more on Essie, Zoya and China Glaze. There are a lot of products from MAC I stopped liking. I used to like their eyeliners, but they never stay put on me, and their eyeshadows are just average. NARS Torrid is one blush I used to think of as my HG, but then I started to notice it would oxidize on me. 🙁

At least here at Temptalia, OPI threatened Christine with legal action for posting collection information. Not a simple, polite, “Hey, could you please take down the post?” but a notice from a lawyer. And they never apologized. See here, for example: http://www.temptalia.com/opi-burlesque-collection-for-holiday-2010 and this Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/OPIProducts/posts/158759117484583

Illamasqua light liquid foundation seemed a godsend at first but I realized after the blessing of my Jouer moisture tint that I was really picking a bad product for my skin by going with it.. it emphasizes dry patches like nothing else

I’ve had a lot of products where the ardour of my love has cooled over time (I don’t find myself as wowed by MAC Please Me as I used to be for example), and there have been other products where It’s taken a while for me to really LOVE them (looking at you Inglot red lipstick whose number I forget), but I can’t think of an occasion where I’ve LOVED a product and then ended up HATING (it or vice versa).

You should apply MAC lipliner in chestnut then apply Siss. Give it that ombre look so it doesn’t look so harsh. I do that with MAC Myth and add a touch of MAC Love Nectar on top. Cancels out that nasty concealer look. I’m a NC45 for reference.

The only thing that comes to mind is UD’s 24/7 eye shadow pencils – the chubby ones. When they first came out, I loved the fact that they were long-wearing and just didn’t smudge or crease. But they also didn’t blend without a lot of pulling and tugging….not great for the eyes. I’m so glad I found Sephora’s pencils and the amazing ones I got from Tarte last year in a holiday set. Both of those brands’ pencils offer all the long-wear and crease resistance of UD but they are blendable when first swiped on.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. I used to LOVE this foundation and now I absolutely hate it. The lightest shade is still too dark for me (so I always mix in some MAC Face & Body in White) and my skin always looks terrible whenever I wear it.

Gemma Avatar

The max factor eyeshadow two tone sticks were amazing at first, so easy to apply and beautiful. A couple of hours into wear, my eyes started burning and watering so definite deal breaker. I’ve never been sensitive to make up before, so these must be a particularly harsh formula! xo

Maybe not considered a total reversal, but MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid was my HG foundation for a couple of years. I didn’t try any others because I thought it worked fine on me – even though I did have to blot and reapply some throughout the day. Once I tried others, I realized it wasn’t as perfect as I thought it’d been. Now my Korres Quercitin Anti-Aging would be my first choice, and for full coverage (special outings/events) I go with Kat Von D Lock-It foundation. I’ll still occasionally touch the MAC, but it’s not my first choice.

chanel foundations, MUFE hd foundation-at first I thought they are braking me out, but it turned out to be improper cleansing routine, that left a lot of residue on my skin and caused breakouts. So girls, don’t blame foundation if you think it breaks you out, probably its your cleansing routine:)

Weirdly enough, just in the last couple of days! I really disliked the Model’s Co. Fibre Extend Mascara when I first got it because it didn’t seem to do anything. But lately it’s been glued to my lashes because it does create nice, fluttery lashes. Not the longest or anything – unless you really take your time – but it adds enough length to look pretty.

ABSOLUTELY !
and I have mentioned it before as well i guess , it was my first mac lipglass ” nymphette” and as there are flexible return policy in USA , I was about to return it and the reason was – it was not working for me at alll , but then again gave it a shot and saw a tutorial here I guess and ever since no looking back

I rem , it was misplaced when I was shifting or staying with in-laws and I didnt wasted a time in searching and picked new one 😀
and the love is still going strong … so much THATTTT
recently i saw a lip swatch with nymphette lipglass on a blog and I wanted to kill myself as the lip swatch was “BAD” … seriously not doing justice to the beautiful color 😀
I loveeeeee it “happy dance”

Revlon lip butters. When they first came out I LOVED them and thought they were a miracle product! I bought three, and now I never even touch them. Chunky glitter, melty, messy tube… ick.

i hated lipstick until about 2 years ago. my lips are really big and i thought i didn’t want to draw any more attention to them. and i hated the feel of lipstick. then someone convinced me to try a dark red-orange ysl glossy stain (i forget the number) and it was all over. i realized i loved color on my lips! i went from 0 to 50 in about a year:)

Jennifer Avatar

I did the same thing! I also have big lips so putting any color there is a pretty big statement. Plus my lips tend to be very dry. But now I’m loading up on lippies, lol. Revlon Kissable Balm Stains were the tipping point, followed by OCC lip tars.

I am also starting to reverse my stance on lip gloss. I’ve never tried one I liked before, they’re always sticky and transient and gross. I have Buxom Leslie on my lips right now though and I’m kinda digging it.

Smashbox everything in general. When it first came to Canada in ’95 I went nuts, especially for the primer. But the packaging was such that by the end I couldn’t get a 1/3 of it out without digging around with a q-tip. And it’s so expensive for what you get. I now like Two-Faced face primer or even Mac Mattify (only $20 a tube!)

Yes.

Mac’s Strobe in Golden Elixir. It’s so, so lovely, and I was ecstatic that I managed to get my hands on it before the collection was gone. However, I realized that it was so watery, it melted my makeup so that I have patches of bare skin showing through my cheekbones where I highlighted. I’ve switched to Benefit’s Sun Beam, but I’m still disappointed Golden Elixir didn’t work out for me. 🙁

Yes!!! It happened with Giorgio Armani Maestro foundation. I had received a generous sample of it during a major cold-snap where I live so my normally oily/combo skin was a sahara desert from the awful weather. When I applied it looked so horrible. It highlighted every dry area and made me look sickly. I almost threw it out when my husband suggested maybe I just needed to use my enyzme peel to remove the dead skin. I did as suggested and it resulted in a beautiful finish. A week later I went back to Dillards and bought a full-size. Now you couldn’t pay me to look at getting another brand of foundation. I love that I don’t have to set it with powder as it drys down to powdery finish. And if I do apply powder I use Hourglass Ambient powder in Dim Light applied very lightly.

Mineral foundations, both Bare Minerals and Sheer Cover(I think that’s the name). In fact, I think I had the same experience Smashbox. They go on dry and powdery ut set to a nice finish. They even look smooth for awhile. But as they wear, they will either end up making me glow “which is I like” or gray-green dry. Can never tell which effect will occur.

Didn’t notice it the first week or two, but all it takes is one person asking if you feel alright to make one realize, they don’t provde a consistently positive effect.

This definitely happens to me every once in a while. A product I think I love turns out to be not so great the more I use it… or I think I dislike something, forget about it, pick it up again, and fall in love. Who knew?? I love how personal makeup is… and even throughout different seasons in our own lives, we will love one thing, and hate another… and then change our mind. 😉

Fake eyelashes – About 10 years ago I bought a few pairs, I did my best and was able to kinda figure it out. I hated the feeling on my eyes and against my eyelashes and threw them away in disgust.
I bought some again about a month ago after watching many youtube videos and wanting to give them a second chance. Holy cow I figured out I did not need so much glue, to not overwork it and to apply my mascara with the eyelashes on, not before. I don’t wear them everyday as I don’t really need them, nor do i have the time in the morning before work, but they are definitely fun to wear on the weekends when going out w/ the hubby 🙂

I have reversed my opinion on a couple! The first one that come to mine is the Maybelline Color Tattoos, but just the shades Silver Strike and Gold Rush. I was mesmerized by them at first but then they started applying patchy and clumpy. Never used them more than a handful of times after that!!

MAC Studio Fix is a product I have completely changed my mind on, I used to think the formula was mediocre. I don’t know if the product has been reformulated but I bought it again recently and it looks beautiful on my skin. Maybe my skin has also changed but now the finish is great and lasts a long time.
