We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I don’t stick to specific products but it’s usually a medium coverage foundation (vs my usual tinted moisturizer), shimmery neutral-toned eyes (possibly with heavier than usual crease shading) winged eyeliner, and bright red lips (with or without golden shimmer overlay).

MAC Vintage Selection with L’Oreal Forever Pink, Nars Oasis, and YSL Rouge Volupte Shine #8. I love special occasions!

As a side note, I want to thank you for your Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette review, Christine! I was so crushed when it sold out and said so on your review post. But after calling my five (yes, FIVE) local Sephoras, the very last one had just two left! I wouldn’t have been so persistent if I hadn’t had your advice to buy it. Your blog is such an amazing website, and I literally trust my every purchase to you and your rigorous review process. You do such an amazing job! Thank you!

If I want to look good and want a look I can totally rely on, I go to my Guerlain Les Fumes quad paired with Stila’s In the Light palette. Black liner for my lashes (rather than my usual Gosh Metallic Brass) and on my waterlines, and – yes, really – MASCARA (I’ve finally found some I love and at least for special occasions, I use them). Any of my reliable foundations (whether mineral powder or liquid) and if a liquid foundatin, then Nars pressed setting powder (the white/invisible one) and lately, Chanel Pirate for lips.

I don’t have any particular go-to shades/colors, but I will wear an actual foundation, and lipstick, along with a full eye-look. I wear a TM & lip balm most days, with a simple eye, so basically I just step things up a bit.

Hmm, not really. Because until recently I never wore makeup, so for special occasions, I would wear a little concealer and powder, eyeshadow, blush, and mascara. Now I tend to wear that on a daily basis, but I don’t really do anything differently for special occasions. I think for the upcoming Xmas parties, I might try a smokey eye and red lipstick!

For the eyes, I typically do a smokey eye (either a black-brown smokey eye or a smokey eye using Wet n Wild’s Silent Treatment). For blush, I use a light dusting of La Femme Blush on Rouge in Magenta, and for lips, I usually reach for MAC Girl About Town lipglass. For any special occasions, foundation is also a must, and I finish the look with MUFE Mist & Fix for lasting power.

I only seem to wear Connoisseur from Bare Mineral’s All Star Palette on special occasions. It’s one of my favorite eyeshadows of all time. For special occasions I also find myself reaching for L’Oreal Golden Emerald Infallible eyeshadow often too! It’s also one of my favorite eyeshadows of all time haha. Oh, and then Benefit’s They’re Real mascara too!

Lately, it has been a face smoothed with foundation, black winged liner, and Riri Woo on the lips. But man, I want to do a bronzey, coppery, golden smokey eye so bad! I’ve just never worn eyeshadow, so I don’t know how to apply it. I want it to look smokey, but clean. Any tips would be so appreciated because my UD Naked palette is going unused for over a year!

The”ultimate” varies by season and mood. But I have a look I wear when I’m lacking time, inspiration, or simply need not to think.

It’s simple and easy. Tinted moisturizer, concealer, blue eyeliner by day, black by night, false lashes or mascara, and a rich lipstick with a neutral gloss over it. Highlighter on the cheeks, nose, and temples – and out the door I go. In past years, I’d deepen the crease but this season and last, it’s been more the trend to keep the eyes simple and it works.

It depends on my mood and my outfit, but I tend to focus on my eyes and leave my lips very simple and nude. I think it works better for me and I’m not worried about touch up my makeup constantly.

It really depends on the occasion, but lately my favourite look for formal occasions is very natural and glowy: gold and peach- and orange-nude tones that look very no-makeup like on my skin. I use gold eyeshadow (from MUA Undressed or Heaven and Earth palettes) and highlighter (Benefit Sunbeam), and my favourite nude lipstick with a peachy-orangy-undertone. I contour with Sleek’s contour kit in Medium. For blush, I use Sleek blush in Life’s a Peach or NARS Lovejoy or Taj Mahal. I also use a dark brown smoky eyeliner.
