I actually have nothing against metal packaging! I feel like it protects the product better and looks much more trendier.
I LOVE metal packaging! It feels so much sturdier than cardboard packaging. I’ve never had any problems with my shadows breaking in a palette that has cardboard packaging, but the cardboard does tend to get a little dinged up, especially on my most loved palettes.
I love metal packaging, it makes products look luxurious and special, but like you, seeing it covered in fingerprints drives me crazy. 🙁
Fingerprints on the metal packaging bothers me too and I don’t like it.
I hate when they get a bit wonky when they’re a bit old which can make them tricky to open.
I also agree with fingerprints being a huge con to metal packaging.
I’m not a fan of metal packaging because it’s heavy to carry around. My favorite powder is in a metal compact and dragging it around all day in my purse is a chore – I wind up taking less favorite powders in lighter compacts instead.
Also, metal just adds to the price of the product, but certainly not to the quality. I’m all for very light, minimal and easily recyclable packaging.
Don’t like it for environmental reasons. Still don’t know which recycling bin to use for my old YSL mascara that is made of both metal and plastic…Metal requires much more energy to produce than plastic or paper.
Caroline- if you have an Origins /store/counter close to you, they’ll take your old make up product and recycle them
I don’t own anything in metal packaging actually. If I did, odds are I’d drop and dent it because I’m the clumsiest person alive!! Just as well then 🙂
I love the feel of metal packaging. It just feels more expensive and luxurious. Having fingerprints on the packaging is annoying but I find things like NARS products end up looking filthy too so It’s no big deal.
I love the NARS matte black when it’s new but it shows every smudge once you use it!
Metal packaging feels more substantial and looks nicer. I always get a superficial feeling of luxury when using metal-cased products.
I prefer it because it’s more durable, easier to clean and it looks better. It does depend on the product though, I don’t think I’d want all my eyeshadow singles or mascaras to be in metal packaging, because I often find myself carrying around more than one of those and it would be annoying if they were all heavy. I also tend to view some products as more ‘disposable’ so I think nice metal packaging would be wasted. Ideally metal packaging would be refillable. Overall I prefer metal for everything (food containers, plates etc) because they last forever and don’t leach chemicals into the food.
I love metal. Until you drop it in a bad way. Dropped a whole box of makeup a while back. A MAC eyeshadow compact from an old holiday collection (maybe 2009) warped all to heck and back. I hate that. The only shadow that cracked was the satin taupe which didn’t have a lot left, but the other colors survived. So, product protected, compact warped pretty badly.
I don’t mind metal packaging–I love the look, but fingerprints don’t necessarily drive me nuts. I do hate when it mysteriously dents, though (I’m looking at you Naked2..)
What comes in metal? I don’t think I have anything in metal.
Quite a bit, actually. Eyeshadow palettes, melting massage candles, lipsticks, compacts. Lower end brands don’t typically use metal packaging, however.
What I love about metal packaging is I feel like I’m really getting my money’s worth. It feels more luxurious and I appreciate when a brand uses it instead of plastic. However, the fingerprints annoy me as well. 🙂
