Temptalia Asks You - What do you bring (beauty-wise) when you travel?

What do you bring (beauty-wise) when you travel? How much do you pack?

.

If it’s just a weekend trip, I don’t bring much – just one makeup bag’s worth, probably. If it’s a week or longer, then I bring quite a bit more.

In my recent travels I would bring my travel brushes, tinted foundation, msf natural, mascara, curler, 1 blush, 1 lip balm, 2 lipsticks, a travel size eyeshadow set and tons of colored eyeliners! I think it’s the easiest thing to bring and use as you can create more looks with it and match with your outfits etc…

I always feel like I *might* need everything and I am still to find a palette that is small enough and has the perfect colors in it so I can do whatever look I need – since I mostly travel for work but this implies evening events, too.

Mainly I try to stick to: foundation, powder, a blush that goes with everything and one highlighter, mascara, 2 lipsticks, eyeliner, shadow primer and 2 quads.

I bring a lot of skin care stuff, like my night and day moisturizers, cleanser, toner, essence, eye cream — everything that I use at home, I bring, even if it’s just over night. I’m a bit OC with skin care. With makeup I just bring the essentials, which include my primer, BB cream/TM, lip gloss and blush.

Quite a lot. I’d bring make up remover, day and night creams, face and eye primers, foundation, MSF natural, blushes (at least a pink and brown shade), highlighter, eyeshadows (if it’s just 1-2 days then a couple of quads, if it’s longer, then probably a bigger palette like the 88 shimmer one or a couple of Sleek 12 colour ones), eyeliners (black, plus colour(s) to match eyeshadows), mascara, eyebrow gel, brushes and cotton wool pads, spot treatment wand, oh and lipsticks and lipglosses (as many as 5-6 each if I’m going away for a week or longer). That’s about it, lol. I would never ever go anywhere without make up! 🙂

I usually always bring a make up remover wipe, 4 mac lipsticks (snob, hue, chatterbox and the mattene one on Poise), Eyeko Big Eyes Mascara, MK’s liquid foundation, Laura Mercier Eye Basics on Wheat, Bobbi Brown clear lipgloss, Graftobian Hi-def foundation in Warm#1, the basics brushes, 2 lip balms (Eyeko fat balm on minty and strawberry), and I also carry Shu Uemura eyelash curler, and to pass something in my eyes I carry my cake pressed e/s from Eyeko on Pretty Eyes color (soft pink, lilac, white – to iluminate – and light brown) and also a liquid black eyeliner. And I’m ready to go! hahaha

Road trip car : EVERYTHING!!! 🙂 Airplane : bare minimum and the most inexpensive stuff so if i’m losing something I won’t mind. My two last airplane trip (Boston and Barcelona, Spain)things happenned to my makeup; to Boston my MAC eyeshadow just became loose powder (I don’t know if it is because of the pressure in the plane or my suitcase was drop hard on the floor) and to Barcelona my zipper from my suitcase got caught in someting and I did lose one Dior lipstick, My lipstick was almost empty (a couple of mm was left) so I wasn’t that upset.
But you have to be careful!

Usually just what I feel like I need to wear: Studio Fix powder, Bronzer, Eyeliner & Mascara, Brow gel, Foundation and Bronzer brushes. All in one of my cute MAC Collection bags.

I backpacked round the world for a year with just mascara and stila convertible color in petunia and a mac tinted lip balm! But nowadays a little more – a couple of shades of gray eye shadow so I can go subtle or glam it up with a smokey eye, blush, mascara and a lipstick. Moisteriser. That’s it really.

I bring way too much. I bought a Zuca rolling case for my beauty stuff. I have a whole set of brushes just for travel. No matter what I bring I never seem to have essentials or I end up needing something particular. It’s over kill for sure.

kikeri Avatar

Really depends on where I’m going. When I went to SE Asia (for four months!!) I brought just skincare essentials, Stila tinted moisturizer, Clinique quick eyes for lining and brows, two lip balm/glosses, and a MAC eye quad. But I would bring considerably more if the occasion calls for it. A weekend for a girlfriend’s stagette meant two+ makeup bags!

tTo cosmetic bags actually )) One – mascara, one neutral eyeshadow palette, one for darker (smoky mab be sometimes), blush, couple of lip gloss, foundation, conseleur. Second – mousterising mask, my HG Clarins beauty flash balm, lip balm, eye cream, eye drops.

For short weekend trips: I would bring moisturizer with spf, mascara, concealer, powder, brow kit, one set of neutral eyeshadows, one set of either smokey eye, urban decay 24/7 liner, a blush, one daytime lipstick/lipgloss and one night time lipstick/lipglass, a powder brush, a concealer brush, 1-2 eyeshadow brushes and finally 3 in 1 makeup remover with cotton pads.

I try not to carry a lot of stuff because I know if I do take lots of stuff I won’t use it. That’s why I take everything for my daily/night face care and when it comes to make up I take: 2 blushes, 1 e/s quad (instead few single eyeshadows), foundation, 2 lipglosses, brow pencil, mascara, eyeliner, eyeliner – blush – foundation brush and that’s pretty much it.
I’ve carried couple times much more than that but realized I don’t need all that stuff simply because I don’t use it.

Hm. I think I bring the same amount regardless of how long I’m traveling for. I have the SK small traincase and it’s a pretty good size for what I have. The only thing that really changes is the amount of lipstick and gloss, I think, lol. If it’s just a few days I’d just bring one cool(er) lipstick and one warmer lipstick.

I usually bring:
Foundation & finishing powder (EDM semi-matte)
2 blushes (MAC Dainty & Nuance)
brow powder (Anastasia brow powder duo)
UDPP
MAC Paintpot in Painterly
3 eyeshadow palettes (KvD Ludwig and Beethoven, TBS Shimmer Cubes 06)
1 bronzer (MAC Golden Nectar)
2 highlighters (MAC Tahitian Sand for allover, Cargo Peony for cheeks)
2 eyeliners (grey and blue)
1 mascara
as many brushes as will fit

Joanna Avatar

I’m trying to cut down the amount of stuff I travel with but I usually bring quite a bit.
Travelled for a week a few weeks ago and this is what I brought:
15 pan palette with neutral shades
MAC Prep & Prime, Clinique lash power, and Lancome definicils
MAC Earth to Earth, Perfect Topping msf, MSF natural
MUFE HD foundation, MAC Studio Sculpt concealer, Painterly pp, fix+
UD Zero, blacktrack fluidline
187, 181, 188, 266, 217, 226, 224
Lollipop loving l/s, Fleshpot l/s, She loves candy l/g, baby sparks d/g
Chapstick

Wow great post. I actually have to travel out of the country soon for a few months. I’m a little worried about my eyeshadows becoming dust. Do you have any suggestions for packing the makeup safely? Also, are there still restrictions on makeup in the carryon or have they lifted a little?

cmferrets Avatar

try bubble wrapping everything- like mac does when they send stuff to u thru the mail. ive never done it , but if i had , thats what i would do. i usaually stick with powder or pigment form e/s or blush when it comes to trips, b/c i have the same fear.

cmferrets Avatar

loreal shocking eyes mascara (the one that looks like a huge slanted eye), eyelash curlerr, studio sculpt mac conceler, urban decay or too faced shadow insurance, mac lingering eyebow pencil, 4 mac brushes (blush, eyeshadow, smudger brush, kabuki, sonia kachuk angled eyeliner brush), mac gingerroot lipliner, mac fluidline, then i bring one of bare minerals makeup kits boxes- i have a ton of diff ones. that way the colors are all together with eyeshadow, blush and lipgloss. i usually bring 2 diff boxed looks. i always go for minralized powedered eye and blush to bring on a trip b/c i would hate to risk any breakage in any of my makeup- so that is why i leave all my mac e/s and blush at home.

On a “party ova here” type of vacation…I take a lot makeup, lots of vibrant colors and enough to create a few smokey eye looks.

On a “are we there yet?” type of vacation with the family…I take just the basics and neutral colors.

I take all of my full sized “needed” brushes. I take three-four perfumes. I take multiples of everything…I can’t help myself. I live to fill up my travel train case. *shrugs*

Sass Avatar

Oh a I take everything that I use at home with me re: skincare. It’s like American Express with me. All hell and chaos breaks loose when I break my skincare regiment.

Evelyn Avatar

USUALLY I bring a ton of stuff but on this trip I will be giong makeup shopping in the duty free at teh airport (hehe) so I’ve got it down to basics:
day & night cream (both clarins)- i have these little tester tubes which are excellent. They last me about one to 2 weeks
tinted moisturizer
pressed powder
benefit big beautiful eyes palette
MAC eyeliners in macroviolet and blitz & glitz
benefit plum mascara
mini clinique black mascara (froma travel set)
1 MAC blush
2 lipsticks – 1 neutral, one fun
clear lipgloss
and that’s about it – o yeah, my “brow” powder (MAC coquette eyeshadow ;)) and MAC travel brushes.
Usually I’d pack another 4-5 non-neutral eyeshadows and a bigger variety of blushes/ sculpting powders etc.

alicia Avatar

I’ve learned the less the better. A small e/s quad, 1 eye liner, 1 blush, a lip pencil, 1 lip gloss.

3-step skincare of cleanser, toner, moisturizer. If I’m going away for a while, then a mask.
