How much time do you normally have to put on your makeup?
How much time do you normally have to put on your makeup? Would you prefer more? (Wish you could do it faster?)
Normally, I give myself about a half hour or so, depending on what I’m using or my familiarity with a particular formula/product.

To go to work 15 minutes to go to a special place 30 minutes.
Takes me 20 to 30 minutes depending on what I’m doing on my eye. I can do my makeup in under 10 minutes, but my average time is 20 – 30 minutes.
well, i am an unemployed quasi shut-in, so i have all damn day to put on my makeup. on days where I actually have to be up doing things, I don’t bother with it, unless i feel like i need to really make myself extra pretty. i like being able to mess around with my makeup for like 45 minutes before i consider myself done, and i hate to rush that.
I feel the same.
For everyday, about 15 mins because I only do a quick eye look and lipstick. For other occasions, 30-45 mins.
Thirty to forty minutes – but closer to thirty, including cleansing my face and putting on moisturizer. I do wish I could speed it up, shave off five or ten minutes.
Depending on time of the day, product familiarity, and whether I have a specific look planned or not, it could take me anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour. Half an hour is my average, I think.
My daily work face makeup routine takes me about 20 minutes, sometimes 15 if I know I’m going to be late. If I’m getting ready to go out, it takes about 30 minutes for a full face of makeup.
Everyday: 5-10 min
Going out: 30 -45 min, depending on the occasion and outfit.
If I’m in work I usually take about 10/15 mins, normally because I’ve overslept coz I’m not a morning person at all. I’ve I’m going somewhere special I like to have 30-45 mins so I can make sure I look nice. I don’t like rushing if it’s for a special occasion
Typically for work/everyday 15min. Night time or special occasion 30-40min.
Every day is a 3-Minute Makeup Challenge day for me when I need to get to work. I mostly just buff on a bit of mineral foundation, even out the discolouration on my eyes, apply some blush, and do my brows….tinted lip balm/lip stain can be done on the go!
I normally have around 20 minutes for my make up when I’m working, but my office make up is pretty simple! I sometimes wish I had more time and could get out the door earlier, but the only person to blame is me, I just need to get up 10 minutes earlier!
I also need about 20-30 minutes. Closer to 30. I often try to make it shorter but no success… 🙁 So i often run late and make my husband mad and he makes me mad in return hurrying me… 🙂
Oh my gosh, how does everyone get ready SO fast~!? It, honestly, takes me about 30 minutes to an hour to do my makeup on a daily basis. What the heck??? You guys are champs~!! =D I’ve tried to cut back on the time I take by skipping a few steps and it still takes me WAY longer than 15 minutes. What are your secrets? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ♥
I’m thinking the same thing! I normally take 45 minutes, and I’d love to take less time- but then again, rushing in the morning is annoying lol.
It takes me 2-10 minutes to go to work.
For other occasions, like 10-20 minutes.
I guess my looks are quite simple and natural.
It amazes me how people can be so zippy.
20min = quick look (supermarket, errands)
45min = normal day (work, shopping, or lunch date)
60-75min = special occasion, going out
SERIOUSLY. These are my times as well! 😀
Me too! I need to be relaxed when doing it or else I just mess it up and get so tensed. Where’s the fun when you’re rushing?
Me too, I try and try to cut it down, but cutting down means leavign a basic out!
I take around 20 minutes for day to day.
On a normal day about 10-15 minutes. If I’m going out about 45 minutes.
Anywhere from 20 min to over an hour, depending on what I’m doing. (Work looks generally take 30-40 min, and more than that if I am Going To A Thing, but that’s very rare nowadays.)
During the week it takes me around 20-25 minutes and I usually choose what l`m gonna wear the night before but on weekends I take my time so it takes 30-40 minutes I lookk around to see what I wanna try especially bold colors.
10 minutes for work. 20minutes for weekends.
Not gonna lie. It could take up to 45mins on a good day. If I’m in a rush I won’t even bother. Besides getting mani’s and pedi’s this is “me time”. So I don’t try to rush doing my makeup.
If I’ve decided on what I’m doing 10 minutes. However, on a night out or special occasion 20-30 minutes.
On work days when I’m trying to get my son out the door for school, I have it down to 5-7 minutes. Even on the weekends or if I’m going out I rarely spend more than 10-15 minutes. I kind of have a minimal, “emphasize one feature at a time” policy anyway.
5-10 minutes. I give myself 40 minutes for everything, including shower. My job starts very early and I’m a natural night owl, so thats the best I can do. The world can have me on time or pretty, but not both.
Well, since I’d give up sleep in order to be able to have time to do my makeup, I just wake up early so that I can take my time doing it. I give myself like 45 minutes, but it usually takes around 30 depending on if I run into issues, say with my liquid liner messing up. Plus, to cut down on time in the morning I decide what makeup I’m going to wear the night before except for foundation and primer. I choose those that morning because it depends on how good my skin is that day and how much coverage I need, and then a suitable primer for that type of foundation I choose. it’s a process but it cuts down on my anxiety and I never feel rushed.
For everyday work looks or weekend days – about 20 minutes. For nights out I could take 30-45 minutes or more. I can be faster if I want to – but that means skipping eyeshadow, bronzer, etc – things I really like even day to day.
I love having all the time in the world to do my makeup as I hate rushing, unfortunately life does not always present the ideal opportunity. Sometimes I have 5 minutes to do a bit of makeup and others I can enjoy at my leisure while sipping a big mug of coffee. I prefer to take my time, but sometimes I surprise myself how pulled together I can get in a really short period of time which makes it kinda like a little fun challenge.
Usually it takes me about 20-30 minutes. I wake up early just so that I can have enough time since I enjoy applying my makeup.
As much time as my kids allow… Thirty minutes is normal, unless I’m trying to do an eye look with a lot of colours.
Before I had kids, 1 hour. Now 15-30 minutes. Oh how I wish I had an hour! My morning routine was my favorite part of my day. I love spending an hour on my makeup!
My morning makeup routine is also my fave part of the day! Now I don’t want kids, I NEED MY HOUR! Just kidding 😛
Daily it takes me 15-20 minutes to apply my makeup.
Usually ten or so, but I like to budget twenty in case of disaster.
30-45 minutes 🙂
I’m really slow. My eye makeup takes me a long time. If I’m going for a neutral look, 30 minutes are ok, otherwise I need up to a whole hour.
*sigh* Work: 30-40 minutes (I have sun spots, and discoloration so I like to really beat my face)
Date/Out/Special Occasion: It can go over an hour to 1 1/2 hours.
I have tried to not do a step like contour, curl lashes, put eyeliner on, just something. But as a make up artist I feel like what I do to myself best represents my work.
Before school or work, five minutes (foundation, undereye, eyeliner, mascara, blush… I put lipstick on in the car. If I wake up early, I might add another five and do eyeshadow). Before an interview, formal event, or date, between fifteen and half an hour. Before full cosplay drag, half an hour to an hour.
I typically need only 5-10 minutes, but between years of experience, and keeping things simple, I don’t need any more than that. My “everyday” look involves a TM, MPF, a bit of contour/highlight, and lip balm, which takes about 5 minutes. If I add liquid liner, mascara, & lining the lower waterline, that adds a few more minutes, and most of that is drying time. I can do a quick eyeshadow look in under a minute, too. If you count morning skincare routine, add another 20 minutes, 15 of which is the time it takes for my sunscreen to fully absorb. I usually do my skincare routine, walk my daughter to school, then come home to do my makeup (we live across the street from the school, so that helps, LOL); fortunately, most of the other moms are also still in their PJs, so I don’t feel a need to get all dolled-up.
“Special Occasion” looks take quite a bit more time, and in order to accomodate the inevitable interruptions, I carve out at *least* 1 full hour, but try for 2. However, if completely left alone, it would take no more than 30-40 minutes, which includes time to allow products to “set”, and do my hair.
I usually try to allow about 30 minutes. Sometimes it takes me more & sometimes less.
It takes about 30 minutes. I’d like it to be quicker, but no matter what I do, it’s like 30 minutes. And I wouldn’t even consider my looks to be complicated, and my application skills are great – I think I just take a lot of care with the application and that takes time.
I need at least 15 minutes for a regular daytime look, though I can do it in 10 (or 5) in a pinch. For a special event or night out I like to take my time, so about 30 minutes at least.
10-15?
I tend to just wear whatever pops into my head.
Anywhere between 10 and 50 minutes for a day to day look. I was actually shocked to count 50 minutes (but in all fainess it included cleansing, moisurising and setting). For a night time look – 10 minutes if I already have makeup on, just to do re-touches and play a bit with eye-makeup. Also indefinite time for small things I remember to do (usually until I am draged out the door by boyfriend :P).
Very rushed: Under 5 minutes
Work/quick look: 10-15 minutes
Going out/working on a tutorial: 30-45 minutes
15 minutes for a workday. Maybe 25 minutes if I want to step it up a notch.
Usually 10-15 minutes, unless I’m doing it for a special occasion or performance.
30 minutes daily, 45 if I’m going out.
Anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, I rarely have more time although I wish I did.
I lose all track of time when I do my makeup. It usually takes me at least 45 minutes. I would love to learn how to do a quick, everyday routine that still looks fab.
I spend 1 1/2 hrs on my makeup.. Does it drive me nuts… yes it does but its the only time i get to spend quality time with myself on a daily basis.
Pretty much…over 1 hour, usually. Sometimes more. For 30 I’d have to superhurry up :))
Usually about 45 mins to an hour. Under duress, I can do it in 30 minutes, but I don’t like to. I wish I could do it in 10-15 mins, but I just like the look of a full face of makeup too much. If I don’t do my eyes, I feel kind of naked.
I think I’ll start timing myself to see how long it takes me for my everyday look, which I would like to be 10 minutes. For special times, time matters less because half the fun is playing dress up.
What a great question… and reading all the answers makes me feel a lot better! I usually take 30-40 minutes for work make-up and an hour (or so) for special events. I am in awe of people who can do the “five minute face.” Yes, I could put on cc cream, lip gloss and a coat of mascara and run out the door, but what would be the fun in that? 🙂 Count me as another one who likes to spend that private “me” time in the morning doing my make-up.
I thought I took a long time to apply my makeup but from reading these posts, I can see that I’m about average. For work and every day if I’m going somewhere, I usually take about 30-35 minutes. I’ve tried to cut back but it still takes me about that long. For a night out or special occasion, I take about 45 minutes. I feel better after reading these posts….Now I no longer feel like I’m the only one who likes to take her time applying her makeup even if I have to get up earlier to do it before work.
It really depends on what I’m doing, but my quick looks are usually around 5-10 minutes, while more intense looks can take upwards of 30-45 minutes. If I’m not in a work rush and it’s a day off when I’m not doing anything special, it averages out to about 15-20 minutes.
45 minutes. I have on average a 10-12 hour work day. I need moisturizing, primers and serious blending skills to keep my war paint long lasting and well put together! I spend most of my makeup time blending and “diffusing” because I refuse to go out the door looking like a Disco Queen 6:30 in the morning. I get up a little earlier for my makeup in the morning but I’m worth it.
If I’m lucky, 20 minutes. I work as a nanny, so I try to put it on while she’s napping. =P If I’m not working, I’ll give myself anywhere from 30-90 minutes, depending what I’m doing and how well I can do it quickly!
About 15 minutes. For special occassions about 45 minutes. It takes a bit longer when I’m using a new product or brush though.
Generally speaking, ten minutes tops because I’m a bit lazy 😛
But if I plan my day properly, I normally leave an hour.
I’m usually too lazy to put on makeup so I just put on some lipbalm in the car haha. But if I wake up earlier usually 5 minutes 🙂 on special occasions maybe like 8. I don’t use mascara or eyeshadow because it just doesn’t look right on me. No matter how I apply it. I like blush/bronzer, highlighter, powder, concealer, and lip tint. All that natural looking stuff 🙂 no eyeliner. Too harsh on me.
