Temptalia Asks You - What do you consider a good sale when it comes to beauty brands?
What do you consider a good sale when it comes to beauty brands? Buy 1, get 1? 20% off? 40% off?
.
I like to see 30% off or more. I’d say 40% is my real “optimum” though. When it’s 30%, I still think on it a lot, at 40% I’m way more likely to buy (and buy more).
.
30% is a good deal. But I am definitely with you Christine when it comes to 40% and buying more 🙂
Yeah whatever above 30% is good. Or get 2 for the price of one 🙂
Just hauled some 40% discounted Smashbox 😀
Unfortunatly the huge discount ment, that the store is no longer going to carry the brand 🙁
what store!
Local shop in The Netherlands
30% or 40%. Buy one get one free.
Anything above 30% is a good deal.
50% or Buy one get one free (same as 50%) or more. That’s a must-have offer for me
I agree, 30% or more is great. Unfortunately we don’t get many sales in the UK, at least not on high end brands, that’s why I tend to buy loads of high end make up on eBay.
I also use my Boots Advantage card as I get points that I can use for buying more make up, they often give bonus points if you buy a certain brand or pay over a certain amount. Debenhams (department store) also have a beauty bonus card, so I sometimes buy there too. However, these points barely add up to a 5-10% discount, so not as good as a sale.
30% is a good sale, 40% is amazing 🙂
I think it depends on the brand for example I just bought several things from the tarte sale but had that been 20% off not 40% I wouldn’t have bought anything. On the other hand if Shu Uemura was 20% off I know I would get something because it’s rare for the higher end brands to do sales.
Buy 1 get 1 is always good imo but unfortunately where I live I hardly ever see them.
It depends on the brand. Some have discounts so rarely, that even 20% off will get me buying (though probably not hauling). Though to be honest, 20% is the staff discount for Sephora and the holiday FnF special they run, so I suppose it’s nothing to sneer at either. Anything is better than nothing, right?
I think at 30% is where I start hauling, particularly for staples. At 40% and more is where I tend to go nuts, and will take more chances on products that are out of the norm for me.
I loathe BOGO promos for makeup, unless it’s uber-cheap drugstore stuff. I feel too pressured to buy things that I ultimately don’t need. If a brand is going to do that, they might as well offer 50%.
I have to say that unless I’m craving something that is limited edition, I tend to wait for FnF sales or other promotions to do major hauling. In Canada we have the Shopper’s Drug Mart stores which carry several high-end brands. They also have a points card and frequently have 20x the points days. I usually stock up on the usual drugstore essentials on those days, and after a while I have enough on my card to enjoy a little no-guilt, 200$ spree on luxury cosmetics.
I love the weekends for 15X the points or when you get lots and lots of bonus points when you buy certain items at Shoppers!
As to the question, there usually aren’t a lot of sales here in Canada, so get 20% off is pretty sweet for higher end brands. The MAC F&F sale is the big one I like to wait for to get permanent items. Otherwise, I wait to go to Edmonton so I don’t have to pay the dreaded PST on the luxury goodies I’m craving for. In general I’m more likely to pick up a few items at 20% off. Much more so at 30%, stock up worthy at 40% off.
I agree, it is really hard to find good sales on luxury goods in Canada, especially since so many of them occur on the brand’s website, and the majority of them don’t ship outside of the US. The only way I manage to take advantage of it is via the grace of family and friends stateside.
Depending on the brand, 30-40% for department store brands, but they are so rare I usually think gift with purchase is a good time to buy. For drugstore, buy 1 get 1 is when I shop because every week the brand I want is on sale somewhere.
30% or more is great — it really makes me want to try a brand I haven’t tried before if it’s a great sale. At 40% off, I will buy a lot more because I end up getting colours that I wouldn’t normally buy. I am much more willing to branch out if it’s on sale 🙂
Yes, 30% or 40% would be really great. Unfortunately we hardly get any sales in Holland when it comes to high-end make-up brands, so I have to settle for BOGOF drugstore deals or 10% discount with my Dept. store or Douglas customer card.
Sometimes Sephora has a sale where you pay E10,- euros for 3 of their (own brand) make-up items, which is also a great bargain.
I think it 40% and up it’s good but hard to find that for those staple one.. However I just got a Stila trio baked eyeshadow for only aud$14 from Strawberrynet.com, that’s like 60% off haha
I agree. 30% is good, but I still tend to be selective about what I buy. At 40% off, I tend to buy much more.
It depends on the brand and its history of % off sales. At 30% off, I’ll consider biting, but rarely do. At 50% off, I usually chomp. Anything above 50% off, I’m normally too slow! 🙂
40% and up is when i go on a shopping spree and buy way more than i need or initially intended to buy.
At LEAST 25% off. 40% off is haul material! 😀 BOGO’s are fantastic, too – it’s basically a very limited %50 off sale.
30% is a great starting point! The bigger the discount, the more I buy too! I think a great idea for a frequent shopper program would be one 50% off purchase a year….when you want to use it, not during a certain time. Sephora often sells out of many of the items I want to buy during their F&F sale as do other sites and companies. That’s why I’d like one you could use at the time of your choosing. Hey…a girl can dream can’t she?
When I see 30%, I think hmmm…that looks nice and may purchase something. However, if I see 40% off or a bogo I am going to purchase something.
