Temptalia Asks You - Do you fall for hyped up beauty products?

Do you fall for hyped up beauty products? Are you usually pleased or are you disappointed? If not, how do you stay strong and resist the buzz?

.

I tend to shop in-store, even though I often drool over things online!

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Urm, I think your answer was for the previous Ask Temptalia question. 🙂

I do fall for hyped up products when reading reviews. But sometimes, those products just do not work for me. I tried the famous Shu Uemura eyelash curler, and I hated it. It’s too big for my small eyes and the edges dig into my eye sockets. Ouch! I immediately returned it to Sephora and went back to my E.L.F. $1 mechanical eyelash curler. Seriously, that stuff is my HG lash curler for years.

Yes. Don’t hate me for the list I have here! So far this year it’s been MAC Fashion Mews lipstick, Lavender Whip lipstick, Saint Germain lipstick, and Smoke & Diamonds eyeshadow. The lipsticks I’ve listed were just too cool yet I got them anyways. I put lots of golden warm lipglosses or a darker lipstick over top to make them work for me. S&D iss pretty, but I have lots of shadows that are pretty similar. Other notables have been the T3 Tourmaline blowdryer, which mine broke after the warranty period.

I will try them and often buy, but only if I love it and know I can use it. For example, I knew I couldn’t pull off Fashion Mews or Saint Germain or Lavender Whip. I also stayed away from Mutiny pigment. I love my Shu lash curler though, and Givenchy Phenomeneyes is my HG mascara. Smoke & Diamonds is GORGEOUS and I am finding a million ways to use it- wish I could afford a backup. I’m set to try out Touche Eclat tomorrow too. I think there is a reason for products to develop hype and a cult following.

I’m pretty “hype-proof”. I will eventually check an item to try to understand what is so great about it so that everyone is fussing about it (like Nars Orgasm which totally unimpressed me when I swatched it) and I’m curious about absolutely everything but I’ve never felt the urge to fall for something just because it was hype. I find that a bit ridiculous to tell the truth. I only pick what suits my style even if that makes me buy quite unnoticed stuff. And if it’s something hype, then go for it, I won’t run away because zillion girls also love it.

I do sometimes get hyped up on beauty products and what I’m loving most is Smoke & Diamonds e/s! The most amazing eyeshadow out there!! I think I might have to get another one since I’ll be using it more often. I’m also loving St. Ives Apricot Exfoliating Scrub! It’s amazing and it makes your skin feel so soft! Everyone must try it!
