Step Into My Shoes - I want to get into fashion!

SCENARIO: I am about to graduate with a B.A. in Fashion Merchandising this March.  Unfortunately, I have been unable to utilize my school’s career center, because they do not have any jobs related to my field (or even art!).  The fashion department at my school is incredibly small, and there are less than four teachers available.  Do you have any tips on how to break into the fashion business?  I live and reside in Los Angeles, and I know it’s hard to land a good job in fashion, but I would appreciate any advice!

umm maybe move to LA …try to get an internship with teenvogue…or somewhere small..I realy don’t know…see if one of youe teachers can point you into a right path…

Though I know nothing at all about the fashion industry, one really good tip I used at graduation was I made a list of allll the companies I admired, cared about, or enjoyed products from. Then you scope them out on the Internet, and possibly call, send an email, or send your resumé when appropriate. But I kept an ongoing list by my computer for at least a month. Don’t narrow anything out, as you truly never know what doors may open from where you are starting out! Best of luck, and hope this helps!

Shoot I wish I had know yesterday and I could have asked my sewing teacher…she worked in the industry as a designer for like 20 years. She is super nice and knows everyone in the industry, and is totally willing to help with advice. If you can wait until Monday I can ask her and maybe send you email?

But your teachers should have some advice for where to get started.
