We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Usually the best way I can get something done is to come up with a reward for myself. Last semester, I was in class from 8 to 5, and it was always so tempting to skip my last class. So I would tell myself that if I went to all my classes that day, then I could take a nap when I got home(my favorite thing to do.) Sometimes it is easier said then done, but the reward system does seem to help.

I can’t actually. It’s been my downfall for the last few years. I’m straight with the status quo, but trying to reach for something that’s not coming easy or takes too much time just hasn’t worked for me. I need to get my mind right something serious.

I need to keep reminding myself of why it’s really important to me. Like, I’m trying to lose 25 lbs, so if I’m making a food choice, i don’t just think “choose the healthier one, ‘cuz I want to lose weight”, it’s got to go farther: “choose the healthier one so I’ll be less likely to get cancer and have heart problems!”

If it’s a smaller thing, like, I’m tired but I really need to clean the kitchen, I just have to make myself DO it! Sheer willpower is needed to get the dreadful task started. But if I can start, I’m all set. Starting is the hardest thing. Try not to procrastinate or make excuses, just do it!

When it comes to something I don’t particularly enjoy, like working out, I have to think of it in steps. I’ll make the first step, stand up, then, go over and get the gym clothes, get dressed, and just do each step until I’m at the door, and by then it’s like, well, I might as well just go. LOL, it sounds simple, but it really works.

As for things I enjoy, like drawing or animating that I both love, and have to do for school/work, I generally don’t need too much motivation. But if I don’t feel like it, but I need to do it, I’ll force myself, but make promises to myself. Like work an hour on this every day for a week, and I will treat myself to a new lipglass!! Oh yeah!

When I need to do something unpleasant or hard (multivariate statistics was both) I’d dangle the MAC carrot in front of me. Like, you get this lab done and you can buy a lipstick. Oooo! And I passed multivariate stats. Huzzah!
If I want something I generally take small steps to achieve it.

I do like Mariah and just take it in steps. If I need to workout I just get up, get dressed, get in the car all without putting too much thought into it. Then, I get to the gym, get on the treadmill and hey, since I’m there already, just walk!! Sounds silly but it works for me every time. Once I’ve been walking for a few minutes, I’m motivated to start jogging. Once I’ve been jogging for 30 minutes or so, I want to do some weight training. It’s a snowball effect and it’s worked for me for over 5 years now.

I think it totally depends on what it is. Motiving myself to go to the gym or not spend too much money is so easy! But motiving myself to eat well is hard for me. My solution is a band-aid solution, I just keep healthy food around and that’s it.

But in general I think that the best way to keep motivated is to remind yourself of what you are trying to accomplish. Some tasks can seem overwhelming so you have to break them into itty bitty pieces. For the sake of argument, use excersize. If your goal is to lose 20 lbs, you may give up before you start to make an impact because going to the gym for a few weeks will have a little overall effect on your goal. So try to concentrate on the small battles, like actually going to the gym at all, or losing 3 lbs that week or whatever 🙂

I find that really helps with school… one project/lab/assignment at a time!

Hi Christine!

Just wanted to tell you how much I love your site. I didn’t get into cosmetics until I deployed in February 07. Now, January 08, I am a huge MAC fan and I cannot absolutely will NOT buy anything without looking at your swatches since I don’t have the convenience of walking into the stores >_< I have to stick to neutral colors, I can’t wear the wild ones yet while in uniform! I actually learned about blending on your website. I thank you for this website, and I will be sure to continue to visit when I go back to the states in March. This website is a Godsend to deployed women!

As far as staying motivated, I write down my goals, and put stick it notes to remind me of them everywhere. Keep a book to track your progress so you can look at your self from a few weeks ago and be motivated by how much progress you’ve made.

Watching others accomplish the same goal pushes you also. Me, I want to become a Physician Assistant in the Army and I can’t stand watching other people get selected!

Getting your friends involved in your goals is a good one too, and can be a great bonding experience.
