Drugstore/Budget Lipsticks and Lipglosses | 2013 Editor's Favorites

Here is a compilation of my favorite budget-friendly lipsticks and lipglosses that I’ve tested over the past year! I’m really excited to have found an affordable, high-quality lip scrub this year. Bonus points for being an indie brand to boot! It does seem like 2013 was the year of bright lipstick–fuchsia, red, and orange!

What were your favorite budget-friendly lipsticks and lipglosses from the past year?

I have honestly never heard of or noticed that lip scrub anywhere…and now I will not stop till I have it in my possession! Also, I’m surprised to see so much Maybelline on this list. At the drugstore I’m usually devouring the Revlon lip products. I must’ve just had a few bad experiences with Maybelline because they look beautiful!

I am so surprised that no Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks made the list. Didn’t you review a few this year? Anyway, they are some of the best lipsticks period, in my opinion. My favorite colors include Fire and Ice (pretty much the only red that I wear), Kiss Me Coral, Rum Raisin, and Toast of New York.

I did review some – http://www.temptalia.com/product/revlon-super-lustrous-lipstick – but they’re not a favorite for me. Not bad necessarily, just nothing that I would personally reach for based on what I’ve tried! They have almost no staying power, which is a deal-breaker for me most of the time (if it was a really unique color or something really special, I would deal with it!).

Interesting. I’ve never noticed a problem with longevity. L’oreal colour riche is the only one that I’ve tried that has had serious longevity problems. Those seem to fade pretty quickly, even without eating or drinking.

I like both Revlon & L’Oréal, and staying power is with both is probably the best of what I’ve tried over the years. I attribute this to the comfort of the formulas, as I tend to rub my lips together if a product feels weird, which cause fading. The older Maybelline formulas were great, too, but I’m not in love with the Color Sensationals…

I tend to think Revlon’s lipsticks are at their best with the reds and fuschias, but otherwise it’s not my favorite. I tend to think the glosses are the star of the lip line, really.

As I commented above, I’m not a big fan of the “regular” line, but I’ve never tried the Vivids, since I don’t do bright lips. However, in reading there is an apparent difference in formulation, I’m more imclined to try the “nude” collection. Perhaps there will be a difference?

Are you talking about the new Buff line? I picked up the lightest shade the other day. I’d say the formula is comparable to the Vivids, so if you were interested in trying it, I’d say feel free to give it a go. 🙂

My favorite this year for lipgloss would be NYX butter gloss in Creme Brulee and Maple Blondie. Favorite lipstick are the Maybelline Color Sensationals.

The butter glosses are wonderful, esp for those who don’t like sticky. They’re yummy and have just enough color that I’m okay with applying without a mirror 🙂 Strawberry Parfait is a fave.

maybelline color sensational is definitely my favorite drugstore lip product. i have a bunch of the vivids and a few of the regular ones…actually, i think i have most of the reds! i haven’t tried any of the milani because i don’t go to any stores that carry them.

I fell in love with the Milani lipsticks this year. I bought too many to mention, but Teddy Bare is my fave. The Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids lipsticks are 1st runner up. My favorites are Orange Edge and Midnight Plum. I have a few of the glosses too.

Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stains in Cranberry Crush, Honey Love and Tropical Frenzy – adore the formula on these and they last SO well, especially if you layer the colour on!

Milani Colour Statement lipsticks in Uptown Mauve (cool, vivid magenta purple) and Plumrose (neutral berry cream).

NYX Soft Matte Creams in Milan and Sao Paulo.

MUA Power Pout in Crazy in Love, Broken Hearted and Justify. These are a little softer and glossier than the Jordana ones but I really do love both formulas.

I don’t usually pick up many lip products from the drugstore, but I thought the Revlon Matte Balm was this year’s standout drugstore product for lips.

I can’t wait til the Revlon Lacquer Balms actually turn up in this country (we only just got the new Super Lustrous Lipglosses!) – looks like exactly my sort of thing!!

My best ‘drugstore’ lip product purchase this year would have to be the two Nyx Butter Glosses that I picked up in a Douglas in Germany. They’re so comfortable, they smell great, they look good and they don’t hurt your wallet!
