The Scarlet Season: Korres #55 Red Guava Lipstick

Korres’ Guava Lipstick is an amazing formula, albeit pricier than I feel it should be, and the red shade is a really fabulous starter-red. You know, like you’re not quite sure you’re ready for a full-stop red, so you need to work your way towards it… that’s what this shade is for. #55 Red is a soft, semi-opaque red with just a hint of pink. It’s not too bright, nor does it run orange or blue, so it’s very wearable. The formula itself is incredibly hydrating, so it even wears well and leaves lips feeling soft at the end of the day.

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

Very pretty. My hubby loves me in red lipstick, but I feel like my lips are screaming “look at my red lipstick”. You look good in almost everything. I guess that’s what makes you such a good makeup blogger. You really know how to make the colors you want to wear work for you.
I think you do a wonderful job!

      LOL!

Thanks Tabby! My boyfriend actually hates red lipstick on me! Doesn’t think it’s sexy at all!

I love the Korres Guava lipstick…a bit pricey but totally worth it! This shade is beautiful and actually I think for the month of October (Breast Cancaer Awareness month) they have a kit with this shade and 2 lipliners for $20 plus they have another 20% off if you enter the code GOPINK at check out. Its a very good deal plus you contribute to a good cause.

This was such a good deal! I didnt even think it twice. You get the lipstick that is normally $22 for $15 dollars with the discount with two lip liners… Can you say score?? Thank you so much!!

I don’t own any reds. My coloring isn’t good for reds but this one interests me. Thanks!

This is a good softer red! I like it for that “I kind of want to wear red, but not look like it…”

I cant find Korres products in stores anywhere so I can test them :( this makes me very sad! Sephora has some products but none of the makeup…am I missing something?

They are usually in two separate places, but they are there! I know my Sephora does carry Korres Color and Skincare!

I ordered this because I loved the color of it on you – the “red but not too red” look. I would love to wear red, but every time I try it on, I get freaked out by the amount of color. I have to say this one does the same for me . . . it goes bright clown orange when I apply it. I’ll have to return it and keep looking – perhaps keep to the red glosses. I really wish that I could find a red that doesn’t go bright orange!

Oh no! Have you tried blotting it or mixing it with clear lip balm?

    Hmmm…

I bought this from sephora and it looks nothing like your photo or what you describe.

On me it’s bright cherry red, just like what Sephora’s site says.

Oh well, it’s going back. I wonder why it’s so different? Is yours from last year?

It’s from 2009… maybe a month or two before this review was posted!

Your lips may be less pigmented or more naturally red-pigmented, which is why it went on different. We all have different lip pigmentation :)

        Ahhhh….. That explains it.

Well, I still think it’s worth it to buy what looks good on you…. Provided I can return it! Lol

lol! If I know someone has paler skin or lighter lips, I always tell myself, “OK, take away like 40% of the pigmentation… that’s on me!” That way I don’t set myself up for this ULTRA pigmented eyeshadow and then on me it’s like… not, lol!

Ah, so since I’m more pale than you, I should assume everything you wear will be ‘brighter’ /more pigmented on me? I think I’m nc20.

That could be a good thing, right?

            • Christine

              Friday, January 8, 2010

Yup, just a bit :) If you’ve ever noticed that a lipstick that looks medium on me comes out darker or MUCH darker on me, you can use that as a little comparison point. “OK, well, I like it, but it’s going to be a little brighter/darker on me… so will I still like it?”

I’m NC25, so we’re not too different but my arm is maybe NC20, haha.

Oh, so just start sampling things on your arm from now on! Har Har

I usually swatch on my arm, so it should be very similar on you in comparison! My face is a bit darker at NC25, and my lips are pigmented but not SUPER pigmented, but they aren’t pale either. LOL. Is that enough about me?
