Milani Melange Baked Eyeshadow
Milani Melange Baked Eyeshadow

Milani Baked Metallic Eyeshadow: Melange

Milani Melange Baked Metallic Eyeshadow ($7.49 for 0.05 oz.) is a mix of smoldering, blackened brown, khaki gold, bronze, and silvered white. When applied, it’s very much a black gold–it has that really dark black-brown color base with khaki and bronze shimmer on top. This shade applies much sheerer when used dry, while applied wet, it has much more intense color pay off.

Milani advertises these as luminous (marketing for soft/sheerer color–more like a wash) when used dry, so it’s actually as described. (Many of the other shades were closer in payoff, though.) I did find that this shade had a faint amount of fall out when used dry; it seemed to have a lot more shimmer than some of the other shades, and the shimmer sat on top of the color more than weaved within it.

I do wish they’d ditch the sponge/brush applicator, though, because the bristles are splayed and scratchy, while the sponge is thin and surprisingly scratchy. I did like the switch to a black interior, over the champagne gold from the Runway Eyeshadows. The lid is also quite secure, and I had to pry it open with my nails.

I think this kind of color is harder to come by, which might excuse the fallout that occurs for some. I do find this is a shade I have to use wet to get the best results, though.

  3. Steph

I love this! It looks like fool’s gold. I usually always have issues with fallout with dark colours, so I hold tissue under my eye.

  4. Kacee

Looks a lot like Too Faced Erotica swatched! (:

  5. Kacee

Ooh! Wonder if this is close to the Laura Mercier baked shadow I saw online at Sephora? Heck of a lot less money.

  7. would you consider this a dupe for laura mercier baked eye colour black karat?!

  8. Gao

Would you say its a dupe for Gilt By Association? Looks awesome! I can’t wait to pick up one!

  9. It looks great, but I don’t tend to put up well with fallout.

    How pretty! :D

  11. Lorraine ER

Gorgeous color! If I could get this shade in a formula with less fallout I’d be all over it.

  12. Ashley Sarah

I really love the color. I need to try this brand.

  13. Mariella

Gorgeous shade…I’d put up with fallout for this colour – reminds me of Gilt by Association from MAC (which I have and really love). I’ll have to check out the Sears that seems to carry some Milani stuff and see if they have this beauty.

  14. Jules

It reminds me of the ‘black gold’ colour from MAC’s Style Black collection. I love using that one as a liner.

  15. Mo

I’m waiting for Walgreens to have a sale on these. I want this one, Famous Duos and Blue My Mind.

  16. Melissa

Is this a good dupe of gilt by associationn from style black?

  17. When applied, this makes me think of NARS Mekong, only Mekong might be a little darker.

  18. Emily

Do you know if it is similar to Urban Decay Dark Horse?

  19. Alyssa

Why can’t I find any of these eyeshadows at any drugstore? I’ve looked at three different CVS’s, Walgreens, and Ulta…

  20. I have an inexplicable love for black golds, so I’ll have to take this home with me next time I go drugstore shopping…

I love colors like this, black with gold specks. I remember seeing something in either Allure, Glamour, or Marie Claire of a MAC eyeshadow that was black with gold specks in it. I can’t remember what it was! It was a limited edition. I think it was part of the Magic, Mirth & Mischief line. I’ve been regretting not saving the page of the magazine because I can’t remember what the exact product was and it’s been killing me!

  22. Carina

This is a nice color for an eyeshadow. But if I buy it I would not use it because its so pretty lol. Does anyone feel the same way with any type of e/s, e/l, or lipstick?

  23. NessaMBaby

Here’s a link to a swatch od Laura Mercier’s BlacK Karat. Looks pretty similar to me. http://thenonblonde.blogspot.com/2011/03/laura-mercier-black-carat-baked-eye.html. Xoxo

  24. NessaMBaby

This reminds me of MACs black line liner, would you say they’re similar? Xoxo

Looks like a matte black with super micro glitters from INGLOT
