Make Up For Ever #79 Eyeshadow

Let’s talk purples!

  • #79 is a dirty mauve-plum kind of shade. It’s a bit muted, which makes it an excellent color for smoky eyes, but it’s also nice for subduing bolder colors. It has a slight iridescence to it, but it isn’t overly frosty. I thought the pigmentatoin was good as well.
  • #160 is a matte eggplant shade of purple. I really love using this with pinks and purples in the crease. It also works really well all over the lid and then a matte black in the crease for an ultra smoky eye. #160 is smooth and has plenty of color for you to enjoy.
  • #142 is a shimmery medium purple with a silver sheen/shimmer to it. This isn’t quite as lovely as I was hoping, as it could pump out more color right away, but it layers decently so you can still get a more intense color if that’s what you want (like me).
  • #92 is one of the brand’s more famous eyeshadows. It’s a matte, bold shade of violet-purple. It’s incredibly bright, and it goes on smoothly and packs a lot of color from the get go. I haven’t used this yet in a look, but I’m definitely eager to!
  • #89 is a soft, pearly fuchsia-purple shade with slight violet sheen. It reminds me of a lighter, less frosty version of MAC’s Stars ‘n Rockets.

Which of these are your favorites?

  3. jojoba says:

i love MUFE eye shadows and I think I need that 160!

  4. Natalie says:

I have #92 and I think it is going to last me forever. It is such an intense color, so only need little bit at a time. And even though it is lovely, it is not a color that you use everyday either :D

  6. Yaya says:

I like 160! I’m looking for a perfect purple for a smokey eye!

  7. Yaya says:

And 79 reminds me of MAC’s Circa Plum.. which is such a lovely color.

  8. Laura says:

Hey Christine (or anyone who knows), how much are their empty palettes? The 12 or the 24 slot? TY!

  9. aradhana says:

160 reminds me a bit of fig1…is it similar? 89 looks great, but again no access to mufe…or sephora….le snif.

  10. Annie says:

I have 92, since I was looking for a dark, matte purple, which is something I didn’t find in MAC. It’s stunning.

    • Christine says:

It is definitely an amazing shade and not found in other lines!

Some folks commented that the closest dupe you can get from MAC is Violet Trance (Baloonacy Collection quad and soon to be repromoted); only thing that Violet Trance leans more blue-purple and is reportedly a MAJOR PAIN to work with. i caved and bought 92 today and boyyy, is it abso-freaking-fantastic! its what i wanted MAC’s Satellite Dreams to be! its also my 1st-ever matte e/s

  11. Tiffany says:

    Where can i buy #92?

  12. Cait says:

I’m trying to find an eyeshadow to pair with my new MUFE 92 I got during Sephora’s friends and family sale. I’m looking for a purple with some iridescence that isn’t too pink to use on my lids with 92 in the crease. Any suggestions Christine? I am, alas, color-coordination challenged. Which can prove rather problematic for a makeup geek.
