Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in #4L
Make Up For Ever #4L Aqua Eyes Liner ($17.00) is a reddened plum with subtle red shimmer. I like Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes a lot–it’s budge-proof, smudge-proof, water-resistant, and it just really hangs on all day long. There are also many shades to choose from, so you’re bound to find at least one that appeals to you!
I personally wish they were a softer pencil eyeliner, though; they’re not too hard, but I definitely prefer mine to be on the softer, creamier side. They’re about average in price–not falling in the “affordable” category, but they’re not prohibitively expensive either. The packaging is straightforward; it looks like a pencil with a glossy black casing.
I also reviewed Aqua Eyes in several other shades (seven, to be exact) last year.

I love AquaEyes, the only problem is that they are not soft, so I can't use them to blend colour over the eyelid, but just for drawing lines! Vale
I love it. I actually prefer it not being very pigmented and on the muted side. Colours like these just go with my eyes beautifully. Awesome!
I've been using the black one for the past 3 years or so in the water line with out any problem - but I did have an issue with this color specifically as I stated previously - but that may be me just having an issue the with red dye perhaps... I've also used some of the other shades in the blue, green and brown family in the water line with no issues! P.S. I do have sensitive eyes, as well as skin.
Yes, sounds like a dye issue perhaps, and maybe it's just the water line is more sensitive than your eye lids :)
I love and hate these liners. I love the formula, the colours, how well they last on my eyes, how nicely they work with other types of products... And I hate that they are so pricey! Individually they are not bad, but there are SO many of these that I want, and I'm not sure I'm willing to dish out a whole lot of money. I doubt I'd purchase this one, as I've seen many similar shades for cheaper prices that could easily be used as a dupe. Actually, I have a similar one, perhaps slightly darker and more matte, from the brand GOSH.
How similar are these to the MAC Pearlglides? I have the MAC ones in Fly By Blue and Rave and absolutely love them, can't wait for the Art Supplies collection to stock up on more colors.
Hmm, they don't have the same glittery-ness of the Pearlglides, and I'd say they're a little harder.
this is like a pencil version of my shu uemura gel liner. which is nice since that came in a limited edition palette, and this (bonus) requires no brush to apply!
I hated this eyeliner. It swatched really well on the back of my hand, but when I applied it to my lid, it didn't have the same payoff as it did on my hand. It was too light and the texture is harder than most- needing to retrace the line to get more color probably wasn't good for my eyelid.
Love these as well, though I agree, they could definitely be creamier. I'm delving into the world of Urban Decay liners and I'm liking them much better.
omg THANK YOU for reviewing this color in particular! I bought that whole MUFE LE Eye liner set from sephora and I do love it! But like 2 days ago I used this color on the water line and it made my eyes tear and become red, but also it turned the water / mucus stuff that naturally surrounds the eyes red so it looked like they were bleeding - needless to say I panicked - took it off and haven't worn e/l in 2 days... my question is did you have any kind of similar result? I've never had a problem with MUFE e/l and have been using there for at least 3 years! I think I am sensitive to the red dye that may be in the pencil...
Hey Danielle, So sorry to hear about your ordeal! I didn't have that problem here, but my first thought was that you might be more sensitive to red dye, either on your waterline specifically or all over.
Thanks Christine! All I know is that I'm going to avoid that color and similar ones in the set in the water line area! I have a whole set of MUFE E/S in similar colors - reds, pinks and purples that I've used on my eyes with no problem thank god! I think it just depends on where I use the colors....
