I wanted to do some color, but since I was going to hang out with my relatives, I didn’t want to go full-out with the color. I thought a more neutral lid with color in the crease would give me the best of both worlds!

Happy Friday! Weekend’s almost here :) Any exciting plans?

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (creamy neutral base), Dreammaker eyeshadow (pastel white-gold), Mink & Sable eyeshadow (olive green), Humid eyeshadow (forest green), Ricepaper eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Graphblack technakohl (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Nuance mineralize blush (soft peach)
  • Lips: High 90s slimshine (coral-pink), Nymphette lipglass (sheer gold-pink)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Dreammaker = Nylon; Mink & Sable = Sumptuous Olive; Nuance = Peachykeen; High 90s = Skew

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the lid, apply Dreammaker using the 239. Darken the outer lid using Mink & Sable eyeshadow and drag into crease using the 239. Intensify the crease with Humid eyeshadow with the 239. Sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Graphblack technakohl on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Nuance using the 129. Apply High 90s slimshine to lips, and then top with Nymphette lipglass for color and shine.

Why can’t you wear color when you’re with your family or relatives? That would anger me. If my family ever said anything negative about my makeup, I probably wouldn’t speak to them again for a LONG time. If they’re going to judge me like that, I’d rather not be around them. But luckily mine don’t, so it’s all good. Still, it upsets me everytime I read that you did a “neutral look” simply because your family doesn’t appreciate color.

Hi Heather,

It’s not that I can’t. They aren’t negative about my makeup, but it’s no different than doing occasion-appropriate makeup. My family thinks I look my best in natural makeup, rather than OTT makeup. I do agree that I look better, generally speaking, with natural colors, too. They’ve definitely seen me rock color! It’s just, since I only see them every so often, I see no reason not to look my best :)

I have to agree w/you Cristine! My sister is one for concealer, 1-2 VERY soft e/s’s (ivory and a smudge of digit!) baby ping l/g, and she doesn’t “judge” me but I know she thinks my coral(pro) and cool heat colors are way too BRIGHT!! My brother insists simple is better, but really what guy likes too much make up on a girl? not mine! I try to lay low on colors around my relatives too! as long as you have a darker l/g or l/s than usual you can “rock” it! :)

Hey Mari! :)

Haha, I know, right? So few guys love girls in lots and lots of makeup. Not that they don’t love us even in our brights, they just feel we look better in natural makeup. No shame in that!

i agree with you heather. christine it seems like you are afraid to be yourself around your family about your makeup hobby. casue if you wear overtop makeup they will have more than enough to say about it. makeup is part of you, neutral and bight, intense colors. you should be able to wear any color around without them saying anything negative, instead you wear neutral colors to make everyone else happy, and forget about yourself. i am not saying wear loud colors all the time around them, but wear whatever color you feel like wearing when you will see your family. dont pick colors with that you feel they will approve. they should be accepting and supportive of you and your artistic makeup hobby, even if they dont like/agree with the colors. i been wanting to make a commment about this forever. it also sounds like you are being deffensive by agreeing that you look better in natural makeup than ott and saying there is nothing wrong with occasion makeup. pretty look that i will try though!

hmmm. I disagree.. somewhat. Of course we should all wear colors that makes us happy. If Christine feels that she (and her family) think she looks best in neutral colors, then why not? Perhaps there really is a time and place for certain colors/looks. I love bright, OTT looks.. my family has seen me in the craziest colors. But they all say I look awesome with neutral makeup. And honestly, I have to agree with them, so I’ve toned down my crazy colors when I’m around them and bring them back out when I’m out at the clubs. In the end, we’re all happy.

Hi Tricia,

I’m defensive because I love my family, and they love me, and it upsets me to see others thinking that they do not support me. I’m not sure how I forget about myself, because I LOVE wearing neutrals. I’ve never had my family disparage my makeup, regardless of whether it was bright or neutral. They are 100% supportive of everything I do, and I can’t believe anyone would think less.

Hey! I wore Dreammaker e/s with Mink & Sable and Humid today with Nuance blush too. I did different placement with the shadows though. Great minds think alike. I wore Subculture lipliner, Mellow Mood lipstick with the Major Minor lipglass.
