Look – Vellum and Mont Black Smoky Eye
Sunday, December 21st, 2008
Here’s another look using Chill products!
You can also see the Penultimate Liner, which *does* photograph black afterall! (Yay!) I’ve only used it once, so please don’t ask me what I think yet as it is too soon to tell! I’d like to give it several usages before I form an opinion
FWIW, I originally just put Icescape on the lips, but the lips looked way too corpse-ish, so I added Frozen Dream for more color (which is why two lipglasses are listed–not the norm).

You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Vellum eyeshadow (duochrome white), Arctic Grey eyeshadow (light silver), Apres-Ski eyeshadow (gray-brown), Mont Black eyeshadow (black), Penultimate Liner (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Don’t Be Shy blush (cool pink)
- Lips: Sandy B lipstick (nude), Icescape lipglass (cool light pink), Frozen Dream lipglass (pink-purple)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Arctic Grey = Electra; Apres-Ski = Copperplate; Don’t Be Shy = Well Dressed; Icescape = Oyster Girl; Frozen Dream = Flusterose
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, apply Vellum eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Electra eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Apres-Ski using the 239. Darken crease with Mont Black eyeshadow using the 239. Sweep Vellum underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Penultimate Liner on upper lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Don’t Be Shy blush using the 129. Apply Sandy B lipstick to lips, and then top with Icescape lipglass and Frozen Dream lipglass for color and shine.

Very nice look and color combo. One constructive remark, since I hate to call it a critique, I think it would look more better if you added a little more color on the lower lash line with a hint of black eyeshadow.
Thanks for the suggestion, Ashley! I love to line my lower lash line, but I feel like if I do upper lash liner and something on the lower lash line, it tends to make my eyes look really squinty! :( I will try your suggestion next time, though!
I really love the top liner, Christine! You look fabulous. Is this a cooler, icy look? Yes. Do you look like a corpse? Hecks no! I really like how you matched an icy eye with a warm, fresh face. And you're blending is impeccable, once again! I'm really happy to see the new liner in a look.... can't wait for the next one!
Thanks, Vee! How have you been? Hope the holidays treat you well! LOL, hey, it's so cold lately here, we're all turning blue and corpse-like anyway ;)
I'm good! Hope your Christmas is wonderful. :) And you're talking to a Canadian here.... frost bite can set in within 10 minutes here. Yuck!
I like the look on you--I just tried it out today! You always give really great ideas! I love the liner as well--lasted all day with really minimal smudging/smearing.
you look lovely i really like vellum and think its one of MACs underestimated eyeshadows...i really love it with blue eyeshadows too
How many liner is too much to own? I already own plenty but penultimate liner seems like one to own. Can you do a tighter lining with it though? I could make them liners go thick, it's the tightlining I mostly have problems with. shaky hands here. You do look like an ice queen with this look, Christine. You certainly could pull this! Happy holidays!
Loving this look, especially the lips. You make everything look great. I'd love to see a look with the greys from Chill and maybe some pretty blues or purples mixed in. I am so dying to get all of these colors so I can experiment.
Oh BTW, I managed to dupe Arctic Grey and Apres Ski by mixing different colors from my Polar Opposites and Pleat Cool Eyes. Dunno if they are exact dupes, but they are similar enough that I am satisfied, so that is all that matters to me. =)
Nice!! I'm glad you were able to dupe it ;) That's what's so great about makeup, too -- get creative enough and you can find your own new favorite colors.
I like this look...I think the liner looks great! I got the Penultimate Liner yesterday and I am really impressed with it so far!
Well, don't you just look smashing! The eyes are amazing! What's the occassion? I just love your bob!
I really like this look. Perfect for winter months! Is Penultimate liner okay for the waterline? I'm thinking of getting it, but was curious.
Thanks, AmyLou! I actually do not know if it is or isn't. It didn't come with any insert saying "don't use this ___" but I don't think any of the liners do...
I just bought penultimate eye liner and velum yesterday. I'll have to try out this look. When you play with it more, let me know if you think penultimate is easy to use to achieve a nice cat eye.
I'll definitely keep you all posted! The first time I used it, it definitely didn't cut down on my liner time. I don't do upper liner often, so I'm also not at ALL quick with it to begin with, but I was hoping this would help. Using it today for a second time, it did go a little faster than the first time around.
Thanks, Eva! :) They are pretty similar, IMO. Vellum is unique amongst the Chill shadows, and Wintersky doesn't have a perfect dupe either. The others do -- Copperplate might be a little greener than Apres-ski, but they are very close when used.
Thanks for letting me know! A girl on specktra swatched them side by side and Copperplate seemed more grey than Apes-Ski...it also seems to have better colour-payoff...guess I
No problem, Eva! Glad someone was able to give you a side-by-side comparison :) Copperplate definitely has more pigmentation, too -- it just swatches heavier, Apres-ski has some buildability, but it doesn't just go PA-POW in color right away.
Love it. Its perfect winter-icy. If I didn't have a facial schedualed today I'd be running upstairs to try it.
Whoa, sorry people are rude...you look nice. YOu can pull off anything if you want... I am confused about the term wash out.
wow...i hate to have to agree...i am not loving this look on u honey, i never thought i'd ever say that...
Sorry you didn't like the look Charlene - could you tell me why? Maybe some specifics can help me do better in the future. Thanks!
