Look – Go Shopping in Neutrals but Pop with Teal

Date: Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 Author:

On Monday, I took my little sister back to school shopping, and since I was in a shopping mood myself, I figured I’d sneak a few peeks while I was with her. When I shop for clothes, I’ve learned that a neutral look is best. I like to coordinate colors with my outfit, and if they clash, it drives me bananas. In fact, I’ve often tried something on that clashes, and then not liked the outfit–when in reality, I’d have loved it if the makeup matched! Thus, something neutral and easy that can go with everything is ideal. I thought I’d use a smidge of teal to add some pop overall.

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Ricepaper eyeshadow (neutral white highlighter), Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow (green-toned gold), Urban Decay Covet 24/7 Liner (teal), Lancome Oscillation mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Peachykeen blush (soft peachy pink)
  • Lips: Givenchy Romantic Dandy lipstick (pink), C-Thru lipglass (nude beige)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: N/A

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Ricepaper eyeshadow to lower lid with the 239. Line lower lash line with Urban Decay Covet 24/7 Liner. Soften edge with Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow smudged with the 219. Sweep apples of cheeks with Peachykeen using the 129. Apply Givenchy Romantic Dandy lipstick to lips, and then top with C-Thru lipglass for color and shine.

Beautiful! I loooove teals, especially with browns! I do a similar look for work myself on my lazy mornings :) And the hair’s looking awesome!

Gosh, I love your new hair. It’s so beautiful. Yeah, that’s not what this post is about, but I just had to say it.

I’ve been wanting to try a bold color eye pencil. I have navy blue and purple (Shu drawing pencils which I love) but your teal looks great!

My daughter and I love to shop at SF Union Square, lots of stuff to see and go to. Do you shop there too?

    Hi Christine,

I have a question about C-Thru lipglass. I own it, but I think I’m a bit of a coward when it comes to using it–I’ve only used it with Cherish lipstick, and it looked all right for a nude lip (I’m pretty fair-skinned, NW15 I think), but I wasn’t just wowed by it. You use C-Thru with pink here, but do you have any other pairings you particularly like with it? Thanks in advance for the advice!

the hair rocks and you look great with colour on the lower lash line…much more eye-opening and a bit softer than black ;)

heyyyyy … this is my fave weekend look. but usually use either MINTED kohl liner or PRUSSIAN powerpoint for either a green or blue pop.

and if i’m really in the mood, i use shimmermoss e/s over minted or freshwater e/s over prussian.

btw hon, i’ve really loving the hair.

wow, i love this look! it’s minimal.. but with a twist. really nice!

but.. can i ask you something? could you please describe a bit the technique you used when lining the lower lashline? i mean.. the line that you got on the lid is sooo nice, compliments your eye shape beautifully, and the edges look so well! i’m not sure if i can do this myself.

      Thanks so much, Lolita!

I don’t really do anything special, honestly! If you warm up your liner (or at least, make sure it isn’t cold), it might help give you a nicer line!

wow….i love the look simple and wearable…

I love minted, it’s an awesome color. I like this look, it’s very casual and your hair is doing that “messy cute” thing which generally ends up being a rather good hair day in the end :) I don’t think there’s much you can’t pull off Christine…you literally look good in every color.
