Deborah Lippmann Yellow Brick Road Nail Lacquer
Deborah Lippmann Summer: Yellow Brick Road
Deborah Lippmann Yellow Brick Road Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.5 fl. oz.) is described as a “super sheer mellow yellow.” The shade was made famous by Lady Gaga wearing it a few months ago. Sheer is definitely an apt descriptor, because after three coats, my natural nail line is still visible. It’s a bright, sunny yellow with a jelly finish. For some reason, this yellow makes my hands look sunburnt, so it’s not as flattering on me as it might be on others! (Boo!)
The consistency is thick-ish, though not difficult to work with, and it flows really nicely on the nail. It’s not even streaky on the first coat because of how naturally translucent it is. Overall, the formula was easy to work with, and even after three coats, it didn’t feel too heavy, though I’d recommend just going with two since it’s designed to be a sheer. The drying time is a little long, and I recommend waiting a minute or two between coats. I typically get a week of wear with Deborah Lippmann polishes (using Zoya Anchor and Armor as base/top coats).

The Glossover
There is something about the jelly finish that makes sheer polishes have more interest to them. I wish this shade was more flattering on me, because I think it's perfect for summer--so warm and bright.

Product & Review FAQ
Where can I purchase Yellow Brick Road? How much is it?
Beauty.com, $16.
Is it limited edition?
No.
Any dupes?
I can't think of anything that is similar in finish, though shades like Chanel Mimosa, China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, and Rescue Beauty Yellow Fever are similar in color (all are more opaque).
The colour looks so gorgeous in the bottle (I love yellow nail polish) but the way it looks in application? So disappointing. Way too sheer and not bright enough. I much prefer MAC's Phosphor from Neo Sci-Fi, and I'd love to get my fingertips on Chanel's Mimosa!
You know what? I totally dig it, which is weird because 1) I'm not a yellow person and 2) I usually hate sheer polishes. It's got some great shine to it, though.
Definitely prefer Chanel mimosa over this.... I don't think I'll get on board with the yellow nail polish trend for summer.
Looks nice in your swatches - better than any others I have seen - sure is for me - way more maybe wearable than Chanel Mimosa. But I just look sick in yellow polish - pale, brights - does not matter.
Don't like this shade -- not bright enough for me, and it's still see-through. Reminds me of highlighter! The other yellows shades you featured look much, much better! :)
Eek! Ugly polish. The more I look at the pictures the more it reminds me of a clear top coat over a smoker's nails! It's too harsh of a shade to be so sheer.
I don't think I like it on you, Christine, but I think it would look nice on me. I like that it's sheer--I hate heavy yellows.
I like the idea of this, but I think the execution could be better. I understand the jelly idea (I love jellies!), but a little more opacity would be nice. I own OPI's Need Sunglasses? and I think that is a much better option if you want this look. It still has the jelly finish, but is much more opaque. Just my two cents. I'm glad you reviewed this though!
In all of the pictures I've seen with people wearing this polish, it looks SO opaque. They must be wearing some kind of opaque base underneath... Anyhow, the only reason I don't buy DL nail polishes is because I used to follow her in Twitter and I found her tweets highly pretentious and obnoxious! lol... not exactly a great reason to avoid a brand, but oh well.
Giant pass from me. Not only is yellow my least favorite color, but the sheer finish makes nails look stained.
I love Lippmann polishes but this is just ugly, they could have made it amazing with such a great name, the sheerness though is not cool
I love yellow polish - in fact, I'm wearing some on my toes right now. But, I don't like this finish. The see-through nature of it on your nail actually reminds me of a 3-pack-a-day smoker's nails!
I've got to be honest, I hate this color. Not to be gross, but it just reminds me of some sort of bodily fluid or mucous filled with infection. If there was a song that had "UTI" in the title, that's what Deborah should've picked for the name of this polish (she names her polishes after songs). It would be much prettier if it weren't a jelly.
